MN GOP: HATCH’S HYPOCRITICAL RECORD ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 25, 2006

"Only Mike Hatch could launch a baseless attack ad against Governor Pawlenty on an issue he earlier said state government had 'nothing to do with.'  When it comes to cracking down on illegal immigration, Hatch is part of the problem not part of the solution." – Ron Carey, Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman

Hatch's Hypocritical Record On Illegal Immigration:

Pioneer Press: Hatch "Bewildered By Governor Pawlenty's Emphasis On Illegal Immigration." "He's bewildered by Pawlenty's emphasis on illegal immigration, [Hatch] said, because governors 'have nothing to do with that issue.'" (Bill Salisbury, "Clash of the Minnesota Political Titans?” Pioneer Press, November 20, 2005)

Hatch Believes The Governor of Minnesota "Has Nothing To Do With Illegal Immigrants." "And while Pawlenty has recently drawn attention on illegal immigration, holding a public hearing in Worthington, it's basically a federal issue. 'The governor has nothing to do with illegal immigrants,' [Hatch] said. 'He can kick it all around he wants, but it's a national policy.'" ("Hatch Brings Campaign For Governor To Bemidji," Bemidji Pioneer, December 11, 2005)

Hatch Dismissed Attempts To Reform Illegal Immigration And Praised Illegal Immigration. "A report from Pawlenty’s office late last week showed the cost of illegal immigrants to state services, but Hatch said it failed to show positive attributes, such as providing low-cost labor and in paying taxes." ("Hatch Brings Campaign For Governor To Bemidji," Bemidji Pioneer, December 11, 2005)

Hatch says that illegal immigration has positive attributes such as: “providing low-cost labor and in paying taxes.”

By any measure, that “low-cost labor” is a result of employers who EXPLOIT illegals to pay them below market-wages, often below MINNIMUM WAGE. In the meantime, these illegals pay NO income tax, and their employers pay NO INCOME TAX, SOCIAL SECURITY, MEDICARE OR UNEMPLOYMENT.

So, Hatch is in favor of labor exploitation and tax dodgers. Meanwhile, he thinks that Governors have no role in shaping Federal policy.

    What planet is Hatch from?

I find it interesting that the only thing Pawlenty has done regarding illegal immigration is run an ad in 2002 when he ran for governor and in 2006 when he wants to get re-elected. You must feel embarrassed to protect him when you know he hasn’t done a damn thing on the issue. Reason he hasn’t: He’s a candy-ass or if you prefer, a sugar-tit. He can’t think without first getting his phone call from Cheney. He is just told to stir the pot every election year so that corporations can run the show in DC and St. Paul. Don’t you think it is really about time he pulled Karl Rove out of his ass and start thinking Minnesota and not Washington.

Immigration is a national problem that deserves a serious debate.

Trashing Hatch because he has taken the stand its a national issue just shows how shallow Republicans are.

After tearing down the walls that protected our workers, and exporting jobs overseas by the thousands in the name of “free trade”, turning a blind eye to illegal immigration with the logic that “Americans don’t want those jobs”, Bush Republicans have abandoned any moral high ground on this issue.

In truth, we need fair trade and controlled immigration, which includes good border security. American jobs and industries need to be protected, as the raping of our economy for the greed of a few cannot be sustained.

As the middle class is ground into poverty under the heel of the Bush Republicans, more and more small business owners are realizing that you just can’t get a fair deal from the fat cats.

What can the governor’s office do about border security, immigration policy, trade policy, and similar issues? He can use his bully pulpit to push for protections for Minnesotans, and that’s about all.

The national push to criminalize immigrants by Bush Republicans is simply another scare tactic. Again, the issues require serious debate and compromise, something we’ll never see in a Republican-controlled government.

I just saw a Hatch ad claming Pawlenty doesn’t enforce Immigration laws. Given his previous statements one has to wonder how he’s able to sleep at night. He’s as hypocritical as Roving Brown Shirt.

BH, as the election get’s closer, you’re down right laughable:

//Immigration is a national problem that deserves a serious debate.//

Unfortunatly, Democrats aren’t interested in that debate. They prefer to do nothing.

//Trashing Hatch because he has taken the stand its a national issue just shows how shallow Republicans are.//

Which stand? That he’s for it, except when he’s against it? That it’s not a state issue, except when it is? That it’s a good thing, except when its bad? TELL ME PLEASE, WHAT STAND has Mike Hatchette taken?

Name one national issue that doesn’t impact the states? Illegal immigration is probably the biggest national issue that affects the states. You really want your state and Governor to remain silent on important national issues?

//After tearing down the walls that protected our workers, and exporting jobs overseas by the thousands in the name of “free trade”//

If unemployement weren’t at a record low right now, this might be a good point. As such, it’s stupid.

//turning a blind eye to illegal immigration with the logic that “Americans don’t want those jobs”//

No, that is very clearly what DEMORATS say. Hatch himself said nearly those words. Then, he came out in favor of exploiting illegal immigrants for low wages. He also supports tax dodging by employers who hire them.

//Bush Republicans have abandoned any moral high ground on this issue.//

George W. Bush and the REPUBLICANS are the ONLY side to propose realistic and comprehensive immigration reforms. DEMOCRATS

//In truth, we need fair trade and controlled immigration, which includes good border security.//

Finally you got something right. Unfortunately, DEMOCRATS have opposed every single bit of that sentence.

//As the middle class is ground into poverty under the heel of the Bush Republicans, more and more small business owners are realizing that you just can’t get a fair deal from the fat cats.//

If by ground in to poverty you mean getting the biggest tax breaks they’ve ever seen, sure. And if you mean that there are more small businesses and start ups now than at any point in history, thanks to strong corporate tax environments that let entrepreneurs keep more of their profits, I’ll also agree. Because those are the facts.

//What can the governor’s office do about border security, immigration policy, trade policy, and similar issues? He can use his bully pulpit…//

… I would end that phrase by saying “to be a thought leader in the national debate”… and that’s actually, quite a bit. Ask Romney (Mass.), Schwarzzenegger (Calif.), Ricardson (N.M.), etc. … Hatch would prefer to stay mum on the issue, well… except for take strong non-positions.

//The national push to criminalize immigrants//

Just the illegal ones, who already are criminals.

//Again, the issues require serious debate//

Right, and it’s the Democrats who are digging their heels in deepest, calling everyone a racist, and generally being immature.
