MDE EXCLUSIVE: HATCH USES CRIB SHEET ON RIGHT HAND DURING ALMANAC DEBATE
By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 3, 2006
A few minutes into tonight's debate on Almanac, my phone started ringing with calls from both Democrats and Republicans telling me it looked like Hatch had notes written on his right hand.
I don't know what the debate rules were, but I'll find out.
UPDATE: Hatch is asked at question about Ethanol and at 9:00 minutes into the debate, he looks down at his hand. I'll have the video up later tonight/tomorrow morning.
Please check back to Minnesota Democrats Exposed for further information on this developing story.

Maybe he needed notes incase he was swift boated regarding E85.
Actually, this is a pretty big deal. Does anyone know if there was an actual agreed upon rule against notes?

Cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater!
Even if is wasn’t cheating, it’s still pretty jr. high.
November 3rd, 2006 at 8:38 PM
I blew up the picture and there are 6 or 8 items written on the inside of his right hand index thumb.
November 3rd, 2006 at 8:45 PM
If you blow it up really close it says: “Don’t forget what E-85 is…remember, your running mate is JUDI Dutcher, not JIM….hack, not whore…”
November 3rd, 2006 at 8:53 PM
I was too stunned watching Hatch essentially admit to his “whore” comment (how much do you want to bet that the Fargo folks played the tape for him) to notice.
But…wow!
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:05 PM
Oh. My. God.
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:13 PM
Considering Hatch’s basic personality and character, he’s probably just keeping a Nixon-like list of all his enemies on his hand–by initials. “They’ll be sorry, when I’m Governor….%&%$#%@##…”
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:21 PM
Too bad that we couldn’t see if Hatch had something written on his left hand as well. Then we would know for sure why he answers most questions “…on the one hand…but then on the other hand…”

Got it up front and center MDE…God what a buffoon!
The wheels are falling off!

Old habit from Law School …………
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:42 PM
i hope the media ask hatch if he’s elected whether he’d do his inaugural address in shortsleeves…reading up one arm and down the other…
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:48 PM
Str8Shooter…..Hahahaha!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:10 PM
I think he has Rick Kahn’s phone number on his hand.
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:14 PM
Im a very very very very strong republican and that whore comment was just what i needed to hear! you must have been watching the debate on HD TV because i can not read what that says and i have zoomed in all night on all my programs and it just is too shaded.
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:26 PM
Could Mike Hatch get away this in class? As a college student I kind’ve like the idea of tuition help…but I really like the idea of cheat notes on my hand…hahaha…not!!!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:39 PM
You just know that Hatch will say that the notes said “bring home a quart of milk” of some other lame excuse. But before you go on the air, you get groomed..there is just no way that this was some innocent bit of errata he forgot to wash off.
I contacted the KSTP newroom (natch) and they confirmed that they saw it too. The guy I talked to said they had not gotten the story together as of this evening..I guess you could say this is developing….
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:02 PM
geeze, that is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. You’re right, it’s at exactly 09:00
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:17 PM
Have a little pity on such a low-tech guy. He probably just doesn’t understand the hardware on that little suit-bulge thingie like your guy W has. (Or that special hearing device like Michelle Bachmann has when listening to the Almighty.)
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:28 PM
Right at about 9 minutes, he looks at his hand and mentions “renewable energy”, then a couple of seconds later he looks at his hand again and mentions “bio-mass” and then jumps into wind energy.
He had crib notes on E-85 so he didn’t look like a dummy.
Amazing….

Right now on startribune.com, one of the top emailed stories is headlined “He’s a jerk all the time, not just when he’s angry.”
I clicked on it because I thought it was about Hatch. Or Hakim.
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:40 PM
Wasn’t that Klinger’s strategy when taking the officers exam?
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:45 PM
I can’t believe Hatch has acted this way the last couple of days. He has totally ruined what was going to be a DFL sweep.
Lourey wouldn’t have done this.
November 4th, 2006 at 12:40 AM
You guys are hilarious!
November 4th, 2006 at 12:43 AM
It’s meltdown time for the Hatch-Ductcher ticket. The media have been pretty forgiving of Hatch up until the Minnesota AG called one of their own a Republican you-know-what. The media has done and will do more damage to the Hatch campaign than any attack ad ever could.
November 4th, 2006 at 12:44 AM
BTW, where have all the liberals gone?
November 4th, 2006 at 6:36 AM
Even the picture in the Pioneer Press this morning is incriminating with regard to the context of this discussion. Notice how Hatch’s hand is cupped as he “casually” drapes it across the back of the couch. – Don’t want to smear the answers do we?
November 4th, 2006 at 7:36 AM
I think you guys are taking this all out of context. Clearly it was a long day on the campaign trail and he ran out of paper and needed to write down the contact information about a little old lady so he could help her with her insurance.
November 4th, 2006 at 8:37 AM
This is some hard hitting shit here. I mean, who cares about the loss of the manufacturing base here in Minnesota? Or the disasterous health care system. Or college tuitions doubling in the last 4 years. Or property taxes nearly doubling in the last 4 years. Or classroom size increasing by an average of 25% in the last 4 years. Nope, this practice of writing on one’s hand threatens the future of western civilization. Almost as much as gay marriage.

Hatch’s left hand was cupped to the point of white knuckles – knarled even when pointing at Pawlenty – I bet $1000 he had crib notes on the left hand too. I like how Hatch completely missed Peter’s sarcasm when Peter said ‘that’s bold leadership there Mike’ in response to Hatch’s weak support of some tax bill. Pawlenty picked up on it.

You’re funny fred. Stupid, but funny.
November 4th, 2006 at 9:53 AM
freddie, freddie, freddie…we had 1 asshole as a governor (ventura) we do not need another…seems your friends have left the sinking ship..
November 4th, 2006 at 9:57 AM
Fred, give it up, turn out the lights and go home – Hatch finally took off his mask and the party is over.
He has no one to blame but himself, but it won’t happen because liberals always blame someone else for their problems.
November 4th, 2006 at 10:00 AM
I believe the ink on his hand is Pawlentys phone number for when Hatch concedes the election on Tuesday. Hatch wanted to make sure he had the number and was given it by Pawlenty before the almanac debate.
November 4th, 2006 at 10:53 AM
Remember how liberals thought something was awry because Buch’s coat ruffled during a debate last year. They claimed he was getting help through some commuications piece.
1) Anyone who saw Bush debate knew he wasn’t getting help, but could have used some
2) The funniest counter comment I heard was: “It’s called a spine. Bush has one. Liberals don’t”
Anyway… here you got Hatch keeping crib notes on his hand like some fucking junior high student taking a chemistry exam.
Not only do liberals not have a spine. Apparently their Gubernatorial ticket doesn’t have a brain between candidates.
November 4th, 2006 at 11:12 AM
The candidates are all exhausted, running 48 hour shifts without sleep. Hell, I’d need a lot more than a few notes on my hand to keep going.
Cut the guy a break, at least he’s not hospitalized for nervous exhaustion, as most mere mortals would be at this point in a thin-margin campaign.
Geez, you’d think the survival of western civilization on hung on this stuff. This is a guy who got a huge tobacco settlement (tons of money) for Minnesota, a guy who got Microsoft to pony up millions of dollars which are now benefitting MN public schools, providing money for technology used in our kid’s classroooms.
The swipes and mudslinging of Repubs show their desperation right now.
At least one house candidate, Julie Bunn (56A), has an awesome “reality check†page on her web site (www.juliebunn.com). The repubs are going after her on totally irrelevant issues, really lame stuff . . . and they stoop to distortion and lies. Sad, sad, sad.
The swift boaters have arrived in Minnesota.
November 4th, 2006 at 11:33 AM
…Anna B – wake up it’s over. For real desperation, just look at the Patty Wetterling campaign – even she admitted that the ads from the DNC/DFL are lies.
November 4th, 2006 at 12:07 PM
Sure, Roving Fred.
November 4th, 2006 at 12:29 PM
Anna, if by “swiftboaters” you mean, folks who expose the inconvenient truth by drawing attention to the fact that an exhorted pillar of a candidate’s qualifications is a blatant lie, then, bring on the swiftboaters.
November 4th, 2006 at 12:41 PM
what you guys all assume is, that us “liberals” or “lefties” or whatever you wanna call us, all vote DFL straight ticket… WRONG
i’d never vote for Hatch in a MILLION years… but i wouldn’t vote Pawlenty either, he had his 4 years, he’s done enough damage as is.
sadly i think he will win re-election. Hutchinson is the only candidate talking actual issues and not repeating party line talking points or attacks.
we should all be sad that these are the two best options our parties could come up w/ (even Loury was better than Hatch)
so i’ll give you this one, Hatch will lose on Tuesday (although it will be VERY close). Bachmann will sadly win, because like this race, both candidates are terrible, but only one is a scary fundy, that would have made the diff if i was voting in the 6th district for me.
it sure seems like Michael has all but accepted defeat in the Senate race this last week though (as he should), which is good, at least he can be realistic about politics, despite him towing the party line.
November 4th, 2006 at 1:07 PM
Anna B, Hatch’s efforts did not get any “free” money from tobacco and Microsoft, maybe, only to the outside law firms he hired. It was all added to the product cost which the consumer pays when they purchase the cigarettes and software.
