FINAL GUBERNATORIAL DEBATE WATCH 2006

By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 5, 2006

"With his declaration tonight that he would have raised taxes to address the 2003 budget, Mike Hatch again demonstrates that he is a committed tax and spend liberal who would kill jobs and harm our economy if elected governor.

By denying that he has ever criticized Minnesota Care and defending what is widely considered to be the most over the top attack ad of the year, Hatch shows he is willing to say anything to get elected, regardless of the facts." – Mark Drake, Republican Party of Minnesota Spokesman

People do not have to like Republicans or think the GOP did a good job while in power, but anyone who thinks Hatch would be a good governor is kidding themselves. Irrational hatred of the right aside, Hatch is dangerous for our state and T-Paw has done a great job and deserves four more years.

This is one of the great blog I came across in recent times. The topics discussed are a great read.
My name is Mark Johnson, and I’ve been visiting your site for past few months.
I’m a recent UC Berkeley Political science grad and I along with some fellow Princeton alums have been working hard to launch our own internet startup called Rizzleweb.com.
Rizzleweb is basically an online political community where people can log on and write performance reviews\comments for congressmen, senators, the president, and various other local and state officials across the country. I was hoping that if it would not be too much trouble you could place a link of our site on your blog. If this is not possible (which we completely understand), we still hope you will check out our site, and post some reviews.
Your contribution will encourage us to put more effort in improving our website.

The line that should put Tim over the top to win the race is when he had a chance to describe the other two candidates as “Doom” and “Gloom” People want to be made feel good and it’s quite obvious that the only one trying to do it is Tim.

Lets see Hatch made another embarrassing fact mistake by saying that Pawlenty wouldn’t let the residents of Hennipen vote on a property tax raise. Further he tried to give himself the out if the bill is passed by the legislature.

Who will want to void this during thhe last debate!

    What do you think?

    Walter Hanson
    Minneapolis, MN

A commenter named “Down the Hatch” writes of “irrational hatred?” That’s just too funny.

Thank you Mike Hatch. For a while there, I thought I was going to be stuck with you as Governor.

Thanks for shooting yourself in the foot.

  7. Newt Jr. Says:

FEARLESS PROGNOSTICATION: T-Paw in a landslide.

Our Komrads at the Red Star will be suicidal Wednesday morning, when Hatch, Ellison, Rowley and maybe even Klobuchar come up empty.

To faciliate this Jim Jones-like occasion at the Strib, please leave excess rope, sharp objects and bulk supplies of medications and koolaid on the doorstep of 425 Portland Ave.

  8. Dave of the VRWC Says:

Instead of higher taxes and threats/promises of big cuts, I would like either side to talk about finding and reducing waste in the public education system. Why do costs increase so dramatically every year?

  9. Jeff Says:
    November 6th, 2006 at 9:40 AM

pretty sure Mike was just implying about the prop tax increase in the area surrounding the stadium (i’d say within a 2 mile radius) as a result of the new Stadium, which WILL happen, you’d be naive to think it won’t.

  10. MplsSteve Says:
    November 6th, 2006 at 11:37 AM

    Newt Jr-

I hate to say it – but Ellison is as good as elected. The winner of the DFL primary in September pretty much pre-determined that.

Many voters in the 5th District will see DFL behind Ellison’s name – and will vote blindly for him.

  11. Big Kahuna Says:
    November 6th, 2006 at 12:03 PM

We can let Ellison have the 5th. Who really cares when you consider how the DFL has driven the city of Minneapolis into the ground!

Higher taxes, higher crime rates and no future for the city is what they will get with Ellison.

Liberals have done such a great job with their social experiment in Minneapolis people are getting out as soon as they can afford to. Schools are in shambles the police and firefighters are under staffed, murders are up again and all this is brought to you by the social left. :) They can cry and whine the some Republican did this to them but in reality most understand now the ill effects of liberalism. It works in theory but not in reality.

  12. Jeff Says:
    November 6th, 2006 at 12:24 PM

“people are getting out as soon as they can afford to”

do you even live in Minneapolis?
give me Minneapolis over any of the “safe” ‘burbs any day.

you’re probably just all pissed off that Olive Garden downtown closed. now you guys have no “fine dining” options when you go downtown for your casual encounter visits.

  13. Master of None Says:
    November 6th, 2006 at 2:24 PM

What I like about Minneapolis is the free outdoor opera music at Block E. You don’t get perks like that in the suburbs.

  14. Jeff Says:
    November 6th, 2006 at 4:30 PM

    Block E is horrible

  15. Master of None Says:
    November 6th, 2006 at 6:42 PM

Not if you like that free opera music, and don’t mind dodging a few stray bullets.

  16. pttp Says:

If Pawlenty did such a great job in the debate why won’t you even link to it at MPR so the world can hear what a defensive and angry Tim Pawlenty sounds like? Instead you only link to the lame Republican talking points attempting to carve up Hatch. Pretty weak coverage.

  17. Jeff Says:
    November 7th, 2006 at 12:16 PM

Master, with rhetoric like that, that tells me you spend zero time downtown and base your entire opinion on Minneapolis and downtown off of news headlines and your nightly news.

i’ve lived and worked downtown for the last 5 years now. i’ve experienced/witnessed less crime than in the 3 years i lived over in St. Paul off Selby.
