DFL CHOOSES “COMBATIVE LIBERAL” TO LEAD MINNESOTA SENATE
By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 9, 2006
"Sen. Larry Pogemiller, DFL-Minneapolis, was elected Majority Leader of the state Senate Thursday, replacing Dean Johnson of Willmar who lost his seat in Tuesday's election.
Pogemiller, just elected to his eighth term, is known as one of the most combative liberals in the Senate. But he pledged to cooperate with Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty and the House, also controlled by DFLers." Source: Star Tribune, November 9, 2006

Wow! So much for the DFL taking a more moderate tone. Special session, here we come. Legislators better not hope the Timberwolves make the playoffs when he’s leader. If I remember correctly, he has season tickets right behind the basket (How does somebody afford such tickets on a legislators salary anyway?).

This is very good news for the Republicans. Both the House and Senate will be led by liberals from Minneapolis.
That giant sucking sound you hear is the sound of suburban taxpayers’ money being sucked into Minneapolis.
The 200 wealthy liberals who took out an advertisement begging to be taxed will finally get their wish under a Pogemiller-led Senate.

Also just read that Tarryl Clark is the new Assistant Majority Leader. I think she’s more liberal than Pogemiller is. This is the best thing that could have happened to the GOP.

KSTP news tonight ran a good story on it. They said something about T-Paw and the Mpls wonder going at it because Pillager wants to raise income taxes. Buyers remorse yet?
Since I voted straight Republican, do I have to pay higher taxes too?
November 9th, 2006 at 7:05 PM
Related…
If my taxes go up, I’m going to cut back on my donations to the United Way, Salvation Army, Humane Society, Minnesota Historical Society, etc.
The people of Minnesota decided it’s the gov’t job to fund those things.
November 9th, 2006 at 7:06 PM
Taxemiller doesn’t have a moderate, bi-partisan bone in his body.
November 9th, 2006 at 7:11 PM
Yeah, I too saw that Tarryl was elected Assistant Majority Leader. She’s as about as left as they come.
Minnesota is in for a very rude awakening with this bunch in charge.

DFL message to the suburbs and greater/rural Minnesota “screw you”….thanks DFL we will be thanking you in two years

Dave,
//If my taxes go up, I’m going to cut back on my donations to the United Way, Salvation Army, Humane Society, Minnesota Historical Society//
I’m going to fire an employee. Do any of you lefties want to come into my company and help me pick out which person will get the ax? Maybe Mao, working here as a 2nd job to help save for a house, or Jody, a single mom, or maybe Chad, my most productive employee, because he’s most likely to find new work.
Lets take a poll…who should I fire? Mao, Jody, or Chad?
On a side note, maybe the libs should think about firing workers to balance the budget, instead of just raising prices (taxes)
November 9th, 2006 at 7:36 PM
wow…they didn’t even get through one day before showing their hand.
November 9th, 2006 at 8:04 PM
What a bunch of whiny babies. Dave, Andrew.. both of you are acting like 2nd graders. “IF I DON’T GET THAT SHINY NEW TOY FOR CHRISTMAS, I’M GONNA TAKE A CRAP IN YOUR SHOES!!!”
It’s good to see which party has become the party of whiners and bitchers and complainers. It’s not fun, is it?

Getting rid of the Moderate Majority Leader was a good reason why again? Extreme Right meets Exreme Left and all the rest of us in the middle will be forgotten for another 20 years until we get the chance for a moderate voice of reason in leadership positions.

we ain’t all whinin’ bryan…some of us are laughin’ our asses off.
November 9th, 2006 at 8:42 PM
How about some coverage on Chris Stewart, the newly-elected Minneapolis School Board member who was behind the Tammy Lee spoof racist website.
November 9th, 2006 at 9:05 PM
I think that we all just need to be a grizzled cheese sandwhich in a pancake house
November 9th, 2006 at 9:35 PM
MplsRepub Stewart got elected after all that? Did he run unopposed?
November 9th, 2006 at 9:40 PM
If extreme right means the highest tax cuts..count me in. Yes, i’m actually glad all these lefties are in charge…….because in only two years, the will be out , hopefully, for years and years and years.
If the Republicans try and bring consensus with these rats……..the Republicans will not get my vote……i’m sick of Republicans trying to be democrat lights.
I heard Pawlenty did’nt sign the no tax increase pledge………not a good sign
November 9th, 2006 at 9:42 PM
It all came out on Monday, but he didn’t reveal himself until yesterday after his election.

I never believed for a minute that Dean Johnson was really ‘leading’ that DFL Senate caucus. He was the front guy for the metro-area liberals and did has he was told.
With Pogemiller officially in charge, it’s actually more honest.

Annie Rice, did you just figure out today that the governor wasn’t going to sign any more pledges?
That’s old news.
He didn’t keep the Taxpayer’s League pledge anyway, so again, it’s more honest for him to refuse to sign.

It’s going to be fun to watch these dims turn on each other

Andrew: // I’m going to fire an employee. Do any of you lefties want to come into my company and help me pick out which person will get the ax? //
Fire yourself.
Don’t take any draws for the next year, and get a real job yourself. Invest any extra into the business. Already doing it? Take a second job.
Bet your business improves 100%.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:33 PM
Larry “Helmet Head” Pogemiller is as rabid a DFLer as they come. He makes Hatch seem like Little Red Riding Hood by comparison. Good.
November 10th, 2006 at 12:20 AM
Pogemiller’s very smart, but I don’t know if he can reign in his worst impulses. He and Pawlenty don’t much like each other but are alike in some ways. Will be very interesting to watch.
November 10th, 2006 at 1:27 AM
Pogey and Bergland have been running the caucus with Hottinger and Johnson as rural fronts for them. Nothing changes here, except that the curtain is pulled back for people on the outside.
But hey, we got spanked and to the victor go the spoils. Either they’ll do a good job and the state will be fine, or they’ll trash the place and we’ll be back in ’08 (in the House, at least…stupid non-staggered 4 year Senate terms).
Either way, we’ll be alright.
And T-Paw still has a veto if the Senate GOP will back him.
November 10th, 2006 at 7:48 AM
Bryan, we can be a little dramatic, can’t we?
November 10th, 2006 at 7:51 AM
Brian Hanna, fat ass ignoramus speaks up!
//Don’t take any draws for the next year, and get a real job yourself. Invest any extra into the business. Already doing it? Take a second job.//
Spoken like a true washed-up U of M worker. Never had a real job. Never ran a business. Feels entitled to everything. Doesn’t know sh*t.
Go file a frivolous law suit Brian. Maybe you can find a council rep giving McDonald’s gift certificates for Christmas this year.
November 10th, 2006 at 8:34 AM
Brian,
I appreciate the business advice, but I’ll pass. Remember, your advice to create jobs was that the government should provide “wage suppliments” for workers through government funded employment agencies.
So, coming from a guy who thinks that just increasing the minimum wage isn’t enough, but that we need the government to run the employment agencies and subsidize the wages of employees, I think I’ll pass on business advice.
Come back when you’re paying out 50k/year in fed and state taxes and we’ll talk. Until then, I’d like a side of toast with my eggs.
November 10th, 2006 at 9:05 AM
as always, Mr Hanna is pretty liberal with his advice.
This is always so easy for lefties. They don’t understand that most small businesses already take most of the owner’s day just to keep it afloat – let alone work 1 or more extra jobs.
Hanna – get real.
Andrew, maybe you could do what other companies have done and move the whole operation to another state that has a better tax structure.
November 10th, 2006 at 11:03 AM
hanna’s been hiding, wonder why?
November 10th, 2006 at 11:23 AM
Mark, duh! I listen to the Taxpayer leagues radio show – I know all about Palenty’s pledges and no pledges..i’m just saying he’s Not a fiscal conservative nor a true captalist…and he’s promising to dump even more funding into the gut of gov’t schools.
Perhaps later Bachmann can run for governor and choke off the nanny state.
November 10th, 2006 at 12:34 PM
Bachmann for Governor???
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
November 10th, 2006 at 10:03 PM
Annie I have an idea, why don’t you and Michelle open your own school and the two of you can teach the narrow minded view of history/civics. You can groom all your youth to be true capitalist. Hey I have an idea, you can show all of them the movie “Risky Business”, there’s a good example for your lesson plan!!!!
November 11th, 2006 at 1:10 PM
I don’t think we’ll have to worry about Bachmann for awhile. It’ll take her three years to find her way to the Capitol from her office in the lower basement of the House parking lot. lmao. Any of you ever been to Washington and seen how it operates?
