STAR TRIBUNE ARTICLE DOWNPLAYS CAIR CONNECTION TO TERRORISM

By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 13, 2006

This line in from a Star Tribune article today about Keith Ellison:

"CAIR and Awad were dragged into the campaign spotlight because Ellison's opponents tried to tie them to terrorism." Source: Star Tribune, November 13, 2006

It was Democrats who first said CAIR is connected to terrorism:

"But there is another side to CAIR that has alarmed many people in positions to know. The Department of Homeland Security refuses to deal with it. Senator Charles Schumer (Democrat, New York) describes it as an organization 'which we know has ties to terrorism.' Senator Dick Durbin (Democrat, Illinois) observes that CAIR is 'unusual in its extreme rhetoric and its associations with groups that are suspect.' Steven Pomerantz, the FBI's former chief of counterterrorism, notes that 'CAIR, its leaders, and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups.' The family of John P. O'Neill, Sr., the former FBI counterterrorism chief who perished at the World Trade Center, named CAIR in a lawsuit as having 'been part of the criminal conspiracy of radical Islamic terrorism' responsible for the September 11 atrocities. Counterterrorism expert Steven Emerson calls it 'a radical fundamentalist front group for Hamas.'" Source: "CAIR: Islamists Fooling the Establishment

Well, you know… it would be a shame to let facts get in the way of a good argument.

But on the day of Bush’s second inauguration, the MPLS paper, front page, top of fold, showed a map of the Confederacy and a map of the states that voted for Bush, implying that those who support slavery support Bush. Of course they made the leap that the south still supports Slavery (that’s like saying Minnesota still hangs Indians).

They equate Republicans with slavery, but don’t see the connection mentioned above with Ellison.

Strib reporter Rochelle Olson has been running cover for her good buddy Keith Ellison since day one.
CAIR is not a moderate group.

Because they do not want to be seen as having made an impulsive decision on Keith Ellison and because of their natural PC proclivities anyway, the Mpls DFL reacts to any criticism of CAIR the organization as if it’s heresy.

So basically because of the excited decision of about 300 DFLers at a convention in Spring, the Mpls DFL has become a de facto ally of CAIR. Great.

Rochelle Olson is helping, of course. I’d noticed that passage myself this morning. It’s inexcusable.

Thought of a hypothesis: CAIR is the American organizational representative of aggressive European Islam. (In the spirit of trying to find a way to encapsulate the doubts some of us feel. Unfortunately, most liberals local or otherwise don’t know what I’d be referring to with regard to European Islam.)

Well since were all SOOOOoo concerned about foreign organizations in our midst and the political candidates that belong to them let’s apply the same standards to AIPAC and all the jewish candidates for office. Afterall, it’s not CAIR’s officers who’ve been accused of committing espionage against the USA, unlike AIPAC.

    http://www.answers.com/topic/aipac-espionage-scandal

So let’s make sure that all jewish candidates for office are ALWAYS identified as jews in every news article that is ever published. Once Minnesotas figure out what really motivates our Mideast foreign policy disasters Minnesotans will decide they want more choices than Coleman vs Franken in 2008.

It’s a point worth considering, Chuck, and I’ll take your introducing it as acknowledgement that CAIR is also legitimate issue.

Clarification: You’d consider us a less fear-mongering, less Jewish-controlled place had the fact of Keith’s Muslim-ness not been part of the election?

More anti-CAIR slander. I thought you boys would have gotten enough of a spanking already on this issue.

CAIR is a moderate voice that has had some bad apples. As such, it bears a close watch – nothing more.

AIPAC is a pro-Israel lobby that also has had bad apples, and it too bears a close watch.

Personally, I’d like to see legislators legislating again. I understand Congress is down to 100 days per year in session. That’s pitiful. Are we resigning ourselves to accepting lobbyist-written legislation as the basis for all our work now?

I’d like to see all lobbyists have Congressional access restricted to appointments between 9:00 and 9:15am every other Thursday.

“I thought you boys would have gotten enough of a spanking already on this issue.”

Wha? Are you suggesting that because the mouth breathing morons that compromise a majority in the 5th CD have proved beyond any and all doubt that they would vote for any scumbag the DFL hangs it’s collar on we should consider ourselves “spanked”?

Seriously Brian, are you mentally ill, or just really, really stupid?

  10. Brian Hanna Says:

You had your backside handed to you. Your take on the issue was heard and ignored. I saw the lies repeated and distributed in my district. I’m sure it went out in others.

Yes, you were “spanked”. And soundly. Even your leader admits it. You got “a thumpin’”.
