Bruce, having his butt handed to him? In two of the three counties that are in that Senate District, Johnson was the winner. I would hardly call the election a butt handing. Get ready for Joe "Deer in Headlights" Gimse folks. He has spoken out no less than six times about his committee assignments and has yet to state the same thing! In talking to local elected officals he speaks of providing more local control because these local officals are elected too, but then suggests later that local elected officals can't be trusted with too much money. Based on his recent public appearences and statements, I doubt we will ever have to worry about a Gimse for Regent discussion.

The Most Reverend Johnson is perfect for the U of M regents - an unaccomplished ex-poltical hack with a troubled past. I say we welcome him to the governance of our giant third-rate daycare center.

Only in MN could a truley disgraced (ex)Senator be nominated to serve on the Board of Regents for the U of M. Yes he was disgraced. Not only when it was revealed that he lied about a conversation with sitting state supreme court justices (or did he?), but by also having his butt handed to him in the last election. Lefties have no shame.

In years past, the Legislature completely controlled the Regents selection process. Johnson would most likely have been a shoe-in if the same process was in place because the DFL controls both chambers. Still, the fact that the Governor has to submit his choices to the Legislature for ratification will likely mean that the Dems will get some of their folks nominated (such as Johnson) as part of a bargain between the Legislature and the Governor.

Since the Regents selection process usually occurs in late Febuary or early March, look for T-Paw and the DFL Legislature to come to some type of agreement to demonstrate good relations early in the session.

Well Michael, I don't think I would go so far as to call him "disgraced". But I do believe that Dean Johnson clearly attempted to trade the truth
for political power, and his friends in the secular media clearly helped him with the falsehoods and "mistatements" (as he characterized them), by letting him hide behind his clerical collar.

Maybe we should also give Entenza a judgeship.

Then Hatch could threaten him and Johnson could lie about him, and all three would have cool appointments (since it looks like Lori will be appointing Hatch back to the position he left to run for Gov) after leaving elected public life in utter disgrace.

I am certain that we can do better at the U of M than someone with Dean's character.
