NOT EVERYBODY IS HAPPY WITH COLEMAN’S PEFORMANCE IN ST. PAUL
By Michael B. Brodkorb | December 17, 2006
"But [St. Paul Mayor Chris] Coleman's leadership hasn't satisfied everyone. Brian McMahon, director of University United, a coalition of community groups and small businesses, said Coleman hasn't done enough to regulate zoning along University Avenue to prepare for Central Corridor development. And some environmentalists say an agreement with the mayor wasn't honored in August when he approved construction of a modified flood wall at the Downtown Airport.
City Council President Kathy Lantry said the mayor's first year has been devoid of the bells and whistles that usually make headlines because he most often had to deal with less glamorous financial priorities. 'The hard part is, is it sexy stuff that you can have your picture taken in front of? No,' she said. 'It seems to me, he has spent an inordinate amount of time working on budget issues.'" Are you still getting paid to criticize Chris Coleman?

I thought your story was going to be about Normie Coleman.

Nick’s lil’ bro will be political toast in 6 months – he will have jacked up taxes so high that even St Paul’s most liberal will turn on him.

Tim: No.

Mr. Brodkorb,
What is the objective of printing the excerpt you’ve chosen? Chris Coleman has struck a consensus among key city constituencies that his predecessor could only dream about. That there is dissent in a city of 250,000 is predictable regardless of who is mayor.

well jon, we’ll all just have to wait and see how long that holds up, won’t we? perhaps the objective of the excerpt is that it’s newsworthy coleman’s support is bemoaning his inaction in office. what part of that are you not getting?
what did this infamous consensus achieve? HE HASN’T DONE ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE. except, unlock his door. sorry. cause he’s so friendly. and smiles and nods a lot. and tells you what you want to hear. AND DOESN’T DO ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE. what a grand dfl recipe for a now nose-diving metro.

Worried Watcher,
I don’t go in too big for blog tit-for-tats with acidic generalizations and capital letters. But let me list a couple of areas where I think Coleman’s represented St. Paul well:
> Budget crisis in play before he got elected
> University Avenue & LRT planning
> Holman Field floodwall controversy
> Bridges of St. Paul negotiations
> Preparation for Ford Plant shutdown
I’m open to discussion on these. But if you’ve got the caps lock on, don’t bother.

didn’t mean to insult your punctuational intelligence, jon. a tad touchy aren’t you? i don’t get paid to post like you do, so please forgive me.
your tat for my tit doesn’t wash the laundry but i’ll just leave it with you on top so you’ll feel superior.
again, i think the cycle will prove coleman and the liberal anti-business power elite in st. paul to be a poor choice. time will tell. maybe i’m wrong. i doubt it.

Worried Watcher.
Nothing spells post-election loss desperation like the phrase “liberal anti-business power elite,” am I wrong?
St. Paul’s doing well right now. You should come and visit sometime. And maybe on the same timetable, you can respond to the specific examples I raised. Over and out.
