SECRETARY OF STATE TRANSITION MEETING #1

By Michael B. Brodkorb | December 21, 2006

I was invited by Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer to observe her transition meeting with Secretary of State-elect Mark Ritchie.  The meeting was held this morning at Kiffmeyer's office and was attended by Kiffmeyer, Ritchie, Beth Fraser (Ritchie staffer), and myself. According to Kiffmeyer's staff, the meeting was scheduled for one hour.  I was the only blogger or media representative asked to observe this meeting.

In my opinion, Ritchie did not seem prepared to discuss the transition nor was he versed in the functions of the Secretary of State's office.  The meeting only lasted only 18 minutes.

I am reviewing my notes and I'll have more posts throughout the day about the Kiffmeyer-Ritchie meeting.

    Go figure, an unqualified liberal.

Truth be told though, I thought you were going to post something more interesting.

How would someone supported by communists know anything about free elections anyway?

She invites a Republican blogger to observe this meeting?? Am I the only one who finds that just a little odd?

Or what about the fact that Mary Kiff wanted free non-biased coverage of the event? “Please note my sarcasm.” Why would MDE be involved for any other reason than attempting to make Mark Ritchie look bad? Fill me in, does MDE have credentials on transition teams, or electoral law? I could be wrong, but doubt it.

What is that I smell? B.S. with a hint of blogger publicity stunt.

Kiffmeyer proves once again why she is not fit for the office. A classic partisan hack move.

What was Kiffmeyer’s purpose in having you in the meeting?

What qualifies you to judge Ritchie’s level of knowledge of the office?

How many “notes” could you have taken in 18 minutes?

Hot tip: Driving through St. Paul this morning I saw Chris Coleman crossing against a “do not walk” light. I suggest you investigate further.

Could be that he didn’t care to talk in front of a scab like you.

Speaking of, why did Kiffy’ ask a scab like you to come along?

Did you ask her how it felt to get spanked by a judge (for disenfranchising young voters around the U) and Mark Ritchie in the same day? Or didn’t that come up?

Don’t be silly. The Secretary of State makes coffee and answers the telephone for State.

    Duh!

  8. Hal Says:

Don’t fret…we’ll use Kiffmeyers lack of judgement against her when she runs to fill Olson’s seat, after he is booted from the House.

Ritchie thought Kiffmeyer was completely incompetent. I’m glad MDE was there to add some transparency.

I’d like to know about the earmarked contributions to the DFL that came in with the understanding that the $$$ would go to help Ritchie. I hope MDE exposes this!

  10. Cindy Sheehan's Fazzha Says:

if you like Cindy Sheehan, then you’ll love Mark Ritchie.

These two both come from the crazed far left bank of the Democrat Party.

MDE — see if Cindy contributed to Ritchie’s campaign.

  11. Kyle Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 2:41 PM

The commies do have a point today. Why were you in the meeting, Michael? Why were any third parties part of the meeting? Seems a little silly.

  12. DJZ Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 2:41 PM

Ritchie brings a staffer, Kiffmeyer brings the number one Republican blogger known for partisan attempts at tearing down Democrats.

18 minutes sounds like too much time to spend in that meeting. What the fuck was her point- I guess she didn’t need one with you there. You’ll create one.

There’s no equal analogy as no Democrat office holder lost to a Republican challenger but, what if Johnson had won the AG office and when he showed up for the transition meeting, you see Hatch sitting there with Shawn Towle?

Get her the hell out of there.

  13. Karen Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 2:46 PM

It probably would have been a good idea to have a non partisan onlooker take notes, but this idea not only reinforces Mary Kiffmey’s ineptness to garner any lasting credibility or good PR. As for MB monitoring the proceedings, I have to agree with the comment from Demrock, even though you think you have some sort of credentials in MN politics, you really don’t. Heck, you don’t even have a college degree. You’re a blogger, that’s all.

  14. Marty Andrade Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 2:55 PM

The thought of Ritchie running elections makes me shiver and gives me night terrors.

  15. North Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 2:55 PM

Could be that he didn’t care to talk in front of a scab like you.

Nothing like a compliment from a fellow communist. It’s always good to see someone defending a new public official whose first act was to diss their defeated opponent and the office they’re taking over. An 18 minute meeting is complete disrespect for the office and the people who elected this moron.

  16. Paul Crewe Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 3:21 PM

I’m sure Kiffmeyer and crew held a closed door meeting on election eve where they plotted methods for deterring stupid hippy college kids from voting. The number of fantasies the lefties have about the power of this office makes me wonder what they plan to do now that they are in charge…

  17. RamseyRep Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 3:25 PM

Richie, endorsed by ACORN. The same group that gave you voter fraud throughout the USA!

Ritchie is living proof that the Democrats will do and say anything in order to attain power. Ritchie also proves to be a typical Democrat hypocrite by claiming voter fraud when none existed and then embracing a group that has been charged with voter fraud.

  18. Pete A. Jarnstrom Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 4:07 PM

I can just here Johnny Cash singing”just the good Old Boys.” I doubt Mark Richie expected to win. People fell for those hokie comercials and his “Good Old Boy” image. Mary Kiffmeyer was a very, very objective office holder and conducted herself in a flawless mannner. The office of Secrtary of State is much strenghened by her service. As for Mark Richie We will hold him to his word and make sure he conducts himself in a nonpatrisan way….something tells me this will take some work.

  19. Demrock6 Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 5:10 PM

Pete the MN courts overturned her on at least 3 times. Including the day she lost her job as SOS.

  20. peter Says:

This post seems entirely about showing what hot shit Brodkorb is and not at all about substance.
    Who cares?

  21. Eva Young Says:
    December 21st, 2006 at 11:00 PM

Did Kiffmeyer tell Ritchie she had invited you to observe the meeting prior to the meeting. Or was this sprung on him? If it had been me, I would not have stayed at a meeting under those circumstances.

This shows Mary Kiffmeyer’s partisanship – and her lack of professionalism.

  22. Joseph X Says:
    December 22nd, 2006 at 9:00 AM

I like how you knew you were going to have a story for MDE before you even had the meeting (“i’m going to have a great story after 11″). Did you write out these posts beforehand too?

Do you even understand what a biased hack you are? If so, how do you justify it?

  23. Anatomy of A Controversy at MNpublius.com Says:
    January 8th, 2008 at 11:49 AM

[...] This was an attempt by Republican operatives, right-wing activist legislators and a blogger who has made a specialty out of politicizing the Secretary of States office to reverse the results of an election they didn’t like. It was a stunt, coming from the party of stuntery (see: the Governor’s stunt press conference yesterday. [...]
