- Ford said the reasoning for going to war was wrong not the war itself.

- Chenecy and Rumsfelf should have learned from Ford. He was a selfless leader willing to do what was right for the country, not what was popular at the time.

-President Ford will go down in history as one of the nations greatest leaders. Not for his accomplishments as President, he was a pretty poor President, but for his ability to bring the country together. A uniter, not a diveder.

Gerald Ford said the war was a mistake and he would not vote for it. Seems like he is more than disappointed in his two proteges Rumsfeld and Cheney. It is a shame they didn’t learn from someone who did the right thing and put the country first instead of politics.

Kathy, It’s interesting when you mentioned the Warren Commission is that the staff attorney for the commission was future R.I.N.O Arlen Spector.

Kathy, my understanding was that he just wanted to end everything. Bascially allow the country to start over. Vietnam and the draft were done. Nixon was out. And Ford didn’t want a trial to drag on and on and continue to cause divisions.

Okay, it’s been 14 hours and no posts, so I’ll do one.

I like Gerry Ford. I wouldn’t vote for him today (he did put John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court), but he was great for a tough period. I like what National Review said about him. Nixon was a little weird, even to his supportors, and Carter…to be nice, I won’t say what they said about Jimmy, but anyway, Ford was a normal person when that was really needed. And contrary to how the media portrayed him, Ford was one of the most athletic Presidents ever. He passed up chances to play in the NFL to go to law school instead (Yale).

My condolences to the Ford family on their loss.

The only thing I was upset with was the full Presidential pardon of Richard Nixon for his role in the Watergate break in. RMN should have should have stood trial adn later impeached for violating the laws he had sworn to uphold. Who is to say that a possible deal was struck before Nixon resigned that he would be pardoned by Ford in 1974?

On another note, I believe that Gerald Ford was one of the remaining surving members of the Warren Commission on the Assassination of John Kennedy.
