PRESS RELEASE: HOUSE DFL BLOCKS TAX RELIEF FOR MINNESOTANS
By Michael B. Brodkorb | January 11, 2007
SAINT PAUL – (January 11, 2007) – Minnesota House Republican Leader Marty Seifert today said he was disappointed House Democrats blocked tax relief for Minnesotans.
"Today the House DFL showed their true colors. Despite campaigning on tax relief, they blocked every single attempt to provide much needed additional relief to taxpayers, business owners, farmers and teachers," said House Republican Leader Marty Seifert. "They ignored an overwhelming majority of taxpayers in favor of pushing through legislation that benefits a few chosen ones."
House Republicans authored six amendments to a partial federal tax conformity bill on the House floor. The bill conforms Minnesota tax law for tax year 2006 only to the federal changes that were made after the 2006 Minnesota legislative session adjourned.
The amendments authored by House Republicans proposed to:
• Cut income taxes by ½ percent on the lowest tier
• Encourage manufacturing companies to invest and expand in Minnesota and United States
• Provide tax deductions to ethanol producers to promote energy independence and the rural economy
• Adjust the deduction for classroom expenses for inflation
• Extend the overall deductions for another year to match the bill passed by Congress
• Provide tax deductions to all small businesses throughout the state as compared to just the tax relief for businesses operating on tribal lands that was contained in the bill
Most amendments were ruled not germane by Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher.
"The issue before us was tax conformity. We brought forward tax relief for a tax relief bill. We brought forward conformity issues that were covered in the bill. The DFL defeated them all," Seifert said. "Many DFL members campaign as moderates and wanted to work in a bipartisan manner for the best interests of Minnesota. It was apparent today that the DFL left those interests behind as well as thousands and thousands of taxpayers."

They’re against tax relief of all kinds. Unless it will get them votes. Then they’ll say their for it, but will actually be against it.
Fucking frauds.

Well, I’m kind of glad they blocked the ethanol tax cut. Enough corporate welfare there.

[...] January 15th, 2007 • 10:27 pmMinnesota’s Democrats Face A Choice The Minnesota legislature hasn’t even been in session a month yet. In a show of their true intentions, Senate Democrats proposed a series increases during their first week in session. During the second week in session, House Democrats refused the House GOP a vote on a series of tax cuts. They accomplished this by ruling that the tax cuts weren’t germane to the legislation that was being debated, which was absurd because taxes were being debated. They pulled this stunt so that their members wouldn’t be on the record as opposing tax cuts. [...]

[...] February 6th, 2007 • 11:44 pmHaws Responds I emailed Larry Haws, my local representative to the Minnesota House of Representatives about House Assistant Minority Leader Laura Brod’s tax cut proposal. I wrote here that the DFL faced a choice. Here’s what I wrote about what choice they made: House Democrats refused the House GOP a vote on a series of tax cuts. They accomplished this by ruling that the tax cuts weren’t germane to the legislation that was being debated, which was absurd because taxes were being debated. They pulled this stunt so that their members wouldn’t be on the record as opposing tax cuts. [...]
