AP: FORMER SEN. JOHN HOTTINGER FACES LOSS OF LAW LICENSE #2

By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 6, 2007

Hottinger's quote is appalling.

###

"The board began looking into a possible misuse of funds in April when the bank that held the trust notified them of an overdraft in the account, a standard alert required of Minnesota financial institutions that hold legal trusts.

'No one was harmed by anything,' Hottinger said. 'In fact, no one knew about anything until I disclosed it to the state bar.'

Hottinger, a St. Peter Democrat who didn't seek a sixth term in 2006, has been working as a lobbyist. He filed forms last week to end his relationships with three of four clients and said his future status with the Ready 4 K advocacy group hasn't been determined yet.

During his 16 years in office, Hottinger served one session – in 2003 – as the Senate's leader, but was replaced in that post later that year.

Hottinger said he effectively borrowed money from the trust account to help him pay his mortgage. He said he was financially strapped as a legislator making $31,000 a year. He said he planned to get the money from his retirement account once his career in the Legislature ended." Source: Associated Press, February 6, 2007

Sorry to say, that’s how the DFL treats our tax dollars in St. Paul too.

I do hope everyone is aware that the DFL does not believe the tax money was ever yours! It is theirs to use as they see fit and you are not to question their motives.

    “borrowed”… stole.

Let’s not judge all Democrats by what Hottinger did or did not do.

Dang – I nearly kept a straight face as I wrote that.

Maybe that’s why the Democrats didn’t choose the Twin Cities for their ’08 convention. Not enought prison space.

Bad News: John Hottinger, you could go to prison.

Worse News: Meet your cellmate, Dean Zimmerman.

In the spirit of Wellstone maybe Fred will send him money.

A pitiful lack of integrity and betrayal of trust. I have no sympathy or tolerance for this sort of behavior on either side of the aisle.

Naw, I’m afraid his cellmate might just be Duke Cunningham.

  8. Ted Buhr Says:

Wow… are you sure this guy isn’t a closet Republican?

  9. Newt Jr. Says:

Now if we could get Dean Johnson, Entenza and Rukavina properly investigated, we could have the bottom quintile of the DFL in jail.

He must have taken a page from the Republican playbook.

  11. Chris Says:
    February 7th, 2007 at 11:47 AM

HAHAHA I love how the vapid arguments from the left about Republican corruption are just evaporating into thin air. Between Hottinger embezzling money from a client’s trust account to Dingy Harry Reid’s shady land deals we’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg.

  12. Breezy the RoughRider Says:
    February 7th, 2007 at 12:27 PM

Fred, we assume that since you are remaining quiet on this that all libs share the morals of Hottinger. (Hanna, you’re excused. And it pains me to say that ;-)

And lawyers wonder why they are disliked! “no one was harmed?” give me a break.
