MDE EXCLUSIVE: MINNEAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL MEMBER CONSIDERING CAMPAIGN FOR U.S. SENATE IN ’08

By Michael Brodkorb | February 21, 2007

It has come to my attention through a high level Minneapolis DFL operative that Minneapolis City Councilmember Ralph Remington has been putting out feelers and is in the process of considering a bid for the U.S. Senate in 2008 against Senator Norm Coleman.

A potential Remington campaign for the U.S. Senate would have to be taken very seriously by Democrats, as he would be the race's first sitting office holder, and a powerful member of the Minneapolis City Council.  Obviously, Minneapolis is a delegate rich area for any DFL endorsement, so Remington's candidacy would instantly change the dynamics of the DFL nominating process for the '08 Senate race.

Please check back to Minnesota Democrats Exposed for more information on this developing story.

This is a huge deal. The Senate race right now has two people who for a variety of reasons might be unacceptable to the DFL delegates.

Enter a very credible Minneapolis left-winger who actually holds office and represents a lot of DFLers.

This would totally change the race and force both Ciresi and Franken to adjust.

It will also accelerate the race considerably and probably force some of these legislators to get in quicker than they want to.

I think we are looking at a pretty crowded field to try to take on Coleman.

    Good news for Norm.

You got my attention with that! He’s has a very powerful persona, great speaker…

I heard that Redwood County Assessor Kathy Hillmer, a republican, is considering running against Norm Coleman for the Republican endorsement.

How long will it be until Norm drops out of this race in the face of such overwhelming fire power?

Fact is the liberal left and Fred have already annointed Al Franken so it is a done deal.

So Fred doesn’t have a very high opinion of Councilman Remington.

    I wonder why that is?

This is a pretty impressive scoop. I assume your Lefty counterparts are fuming over getting rolled over on this.

Kahuna might be right that Big Al is the anointed one, but the activists still get a say, and despite Fred’s belittling of the councilman, Remington will be a serious candidate.

I heard Ralph the Crow Wing County Dog Catcher is forming an exploratory committee. He once drove by a place which once held a DFL meeting and thinks the connection he felt with that drive-by gives him a good shot at the nomination.

I called the Coleman camp for comment and they quickly issued a press release denying any knowledge of Ralph or the so-called DFL meeting. Obviously they’re frightened that Ralph will run. They’re planning on a press conference tomorrow to discuss how poorly Ralph has done in Crow Wing and how there are still dogs running loose in the area.

    Film at 11.

I live in Minneapolis and feel the need to ask…

    Who is Ralph Remington?

I thought all the Minneapolis city council people were either in prison or on parole.

I want to know why “a high level Minneapolis DFL operative” is feeding information to MDE?

I heard about Remington running for the United States Senate just yesterday. But back to my original question or problem: why are “high level Minneapolis DFL operatives” feeding information to MDE?

I’LL WRITE IT AGAIN: WHY IS THIS FIRST BEING REPORTED ON A BLOG THAT EXPOSES MINNESOTA DEMOCRATS!!!! WHY ARE “HIGH LEVEL MINNEAPOLIS DFL OPERATIVES” TALK/FEEDING/SPOONING INFORMATION TO MDE!!! HE EXPOSES DEMOCRATS!!!! GET IT!!!!

Oh please – this is amateur hour.

I’m waiting for the official announcement that ‘Fool For Christ’ and President-stalker Michele Bachmann is taking a run at Coleman.

    THEN it will be fun.

  11. Chuck Colson Says:
    February 21st, 2007 at 2:22 PM

Remmington is an idiot and a conspiracy theorist – He represents an area encompassing many people, but only a few have had their civil rights restored upon completion of their felony probation and parole.

  12. Fred Garvin Says:
    February 21st, 2007 at 2:33 PM

I have no love for Al Franken OR Ralph Remmington.

The election is more than a year away. Unlike my republican counterparts, I don’t let others pick my horses for me, and I certainly don’t pick before I get to learn about my options. Ralph Remmington may very well be the best candidate in this race. If that is the case, I will vote for him.

    February 21st, 2007 at 2:45 PM

Ralphie represents Uptown – you know, that bastion of independent moderates. He also thinks the Minneapolis cops are out to kill him.

  14. Big Kahuna Says:
    February 21st, 2007 at 2:53 PM

Fred as long as they have a “D” behind their name you should be good to go. ;)

You are a mindless DFL die hard follower and a classic liberal one could hardly say you do much thinking for yourself. :)

  15. Dumbing it Down For the Left Says:
    February 21st, 2007 at 3:18 PM

    Hey ConcernedHighLevel

Thank you for confirming MDE’s initial post.

    Why would you do that???

    Thanks

  16. Tedd Says:
    February 21st, 2007 at 3:39 PM

Remmington is an idiot and a conspiracy theorist

So he’s the typical DFL voter.

  17. John Boy Says:

#15 >>> We sure it isn’t Mike-o posting under another handle to feed the illusion the DFL gives a flying crap?
