CHECKS AND BALANCES: JOHN LESCH FOR U.S. SENATE

By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 22, 2007

"The announcement by comedian Al Franken's (D) entrance into the U.S. Senate race came as no surprise to us we have been discussing the idea for quite some time and Mike Ciresi's (D) desire to seek the same post is again not a much of a revelation. We have it on good authority that Rep. John Lesch (DFL-66A, St. Paul) is mulling over the idea.

Lesch gained a great deal of attention when he made an unauthorized trip into Iraq last year. Some thought his trip to be a fool-hearted gesture, others thought he was off his rocker ands thought it was noble. Lesch comes to the table with a number of skills he has a quick wit though often a tad bit sarcastic and a firm grasp of issues facing Minnesotans today. As a prosecutor in the St. Paul City Attorney's office he has first hand knowledge on the issue of crime and as a resident of St. Paul he can challenge U.S. Senator Norm Coleman over the state he left the Capitol city in upon his departure.

We expect to hear him discuss trade, crime and consumer protection if he ever makes his way onto the campaign trail. At 34 if he makes this his first foray into statewide politics he will be well positioned to have a long term impact.

We have also heard Minneapolis City Council member Ralph Remmington's (D) name mentioned as a potential candidate along with Sen. Mee Moua (DFL-67, St. Paul) and Rep Aaron Peterson (DFL-20A, Madison)." Source: Checks and Balances, February 21, 2007

I thought you broke the Lesch story weeks ago when you wrote that Aaron Peterson was thinking about running. They are the same person aren’t they?

If they/he/one-of-them wins, they will have to abstain from any federal legislation affecting Fabulous Ferns on account of a conflict of interest.

Republicans are so confused by the concept of more than one candidate running for a position. Apparently the whole pro-choice thing is more than just an abortion stance.

I heard Aaron Peterson rubbed off Lesch in the bathroom at Fern’s one night — MDE, can you confirm this?

Well, unlike Peterson, Lesch has a brain (chooses when to engage it), he can talk your ears off, raise money I think, and has put people in jail.

He’s divorced and has a bit of the Clinton flu, without the Hillary antibiotic, so if Tom thinks that was Aaron in there with him, he may want to check again through his favorite peephole as it very could have been ol’ Tom’s wife.

Still a better choice than Coleman and more serious that Remington, Peterson, Moua and Clark.
