AP: STATE LEGISLATOR CONSIDERING 2008 U.S. SENATE RUN
By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 24, 2007
"State Rep. John Lesch, who gained recognition a year ago for taking an unauthorized trip to Iraq, said Friday he is considering a 2008 run for U.S. Senate.
'Everyone at this stage is all in an exploratory phase,' Lesch said. 'I will be exploring it as a side option.'
If he gets in, he would be an underdog for the Democratic nomination to bigger named candidates, comedian Al Franken and trial lawyer Mike Ciresi. Fellow state Rep. Joe Atkins of Inver Grove Heights is also weighing a campaign for the seat now held by Republican Sen. Norm Coleman." Source: Associated Press, February 23, 2007

Lesch was a guest on my radio show earlier today. I'll post the audio in the next 48 hours.

Lesch is dreaming. He would have trouble winning a Ramsey county election. And his Iraq fiasco only makes his higher office aspiration contemplations funnier.
I know a lot of DFLers aren’t thrilled but unless a candidate has money (Ciresi), a name (Franken), or is a phenomenal fund raiser with a great personality (Atkins), we have a two and a half pony race. A $100 on Seabiscuit.

I agree, Lesch is in la-la land. He stands no chance.
