MDE FROM THE ARCHIVES: FRANKEN DESCRIBES OWN BOOK AS “GRATUITOUSLY MEAN”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 27, 2007

"Let's be perfectly Franken. No one, particularly the author, foresaw the runaway success of Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations.

'It's certainly more than I expected, and probably even more than I hoped for,' humorist Al Franken says. 'We had done no advertising at all, and just the smallest amount of publicity. So this thing has been selling just purely on the title, and I guess me or something. . . . One guy came up to me and said he's sleeping with the book.'

Franken's 271-page political offensive – 'Some of the stuff is really playful, some of it gratuitously mean' – debuted at No. 4.

Might Limbaugh-ites be buying up copies for the purpose of destroying them?

'I hope so.' Plant that idea, would ya?' Franken says." Source: Dallas Morning News, February 19, 1996

Rush and ‘gratitously mean’ go hand in hand:

On November 6, 1992, three days after her father won the elections, when Chelsea was still in braces, Rush Limbaugh said the following: “Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat; Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?” He then pointed to a video monitor, which switched to a picture of Chelsea. Although Limbaugh has claimed that it was a technical error, as Al Franken documented in his book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, since the show was on a tape delay, if it truly was a technical error, it could have been corrected prior to airing of the show.

Is Rush running for US Senate?

Michael, when describing your blog, you should go with, “Gratuitously Slanderous”.

    Christine… So?

Are the new leader of using non-sequiturs to obfuscate the conversation?

    Lame.

Yeah, this post was just dumb.

Franken is descrbing the tone of the book, so what?

Yeah, the Democrats will attack Coleman based off of his voting record, you guys can continue attacking Franken based off his best selling books. Lets see whose attacks the public thing are more plausible.

Honestly, Franken was a comedian, a damn good one. He is now giving up the comedy to become a serious politician. He’s evolving and now going into a different aspect of politics, from making fun of the idiot politicians out there who just so happen to be Republicans to instead deciding to run against them and take them out of office. Evolution my friends, evolution, oh wait, I mean creationism, creationism

Andrew, you are entitled to your wrong opinion that Franken was a damn good comedian.

However, even the DUmmies admit that their hero, Al Franken, sucks -

Al Franken is just another run-of-the-mill, Bush-hating liberal hack.

You guys are right–please disregard my post and instead post a ‘mean’ quote from Al’s 1996 book about Rush and then I can tell you why Rush deserves it (M.J. Fox, Dononvan McNabb, Chelsea Clinton, Jerry Garcia, et al)

    A comedic interlude (Requires quicktime:)
