CAN DFL’S “COMPETENCY” BE QUESTIONED WITH SECOND COMPUTER THEFT IN TWO WEEKS?
By Michael B. Brodkorb | March 29, 2007
The Minnesota DFL has now had two laptops stolen from their office in the last two week:
"Someone broke into the Minnesota DFL headquarters in St. Paul Tuesday night or this morning, marking the second burglary in two weeks, a party spokesman said today.
A window in the party's executive director's office was pried out of its frame and the items stolen were taken from that office alone, said Nick Kimball, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party's interim communications director.
A laptop computer was stolen and so were other items, but Kimball declined to comment on what they were. During the last break-in at the headquarters at 255 E. Plato Blvd., which happened the evening of March 17 or the morning of March 18, a laptop was also taken. " Source: Associated Press, March 29, 2007
During the 2006 campaign, then candidate Rebecca Otto used the left of three laptops against then State Auditor Pat Anderson:
"Otto also questioned the disappearance of three laptop computers from the Auditor’s Office this June." Source: ECM Publishing, August 11, 2006
"Otto, 43, who lives near Marine on St. Croix, said current Auditor Pat Anderson's office has made numerous errors in reports and has overseen the theft of laptop computers. Competency will be one of the themes of her campaign, she said." Source: Brainard Dispatch, July 21, 2006
If it was acceptable for DFL-endorsed Rebecca Otto to question former State Auditor Pat Anderson's "competency" for the theft of laptops, it is fair to question the DFL's "competency" for having two laptops stolen in the last two weeks? Otto clearly politicized the theft of the laptops, but was this fair?

Michael, how DARE you question this! I mean, all those hard working DFLers were obviously all at the Capitol, helping craft one of the most ground-breaking and vitally important pieces of legislation that we’ve seen in years:
Designating the Tilt-a-Whirl as the official state amusement ride.
Stop picking on the DFL, Mike. They needed all the staff they could get to crate this earth-shattering legislation! Its NOT THEIR FAULT!

DFL=disgustingly foolish liberals who don’t care what is really important to Minnesota. Get to work and don’t raise my taxes!

Blaming the victim is wrong–regardless of whose political stripes are making the accusations, blaming the victim of a crime for that crime is foolish, reckless, and irresponsible.

Reminds me of when the bass player locked himself in his car.

They’re about as good at protecting their headquarters as they are at protecting our wallets.

~ Not to mention the country as well.
DFL’rs like their flags to be white and waving.

Just give the laptops back and nobody gets hurt MDE.
Oh by the way, it is Senator Day who is slaving over the Tilt-A-Whirl bill in the Senate Dave. Apparently he can juggle this bill and running for Congress at the same time, quite a trooper.

Karl Rove must have been in town lately!

Watch out – they’ll probably want to raise another tax, or institute another one (or both) to cover their victimhood.
Karl Rove must have been in town lately!
Huh? Maybe that democratic congressman with the $100k in his freezer.

The thefts from Anderson’s office were different, if I recall – there was no break-in, it was apparently an inside job, and yet afterwards no security precautions or encryption was implemented, then it happened again and this time sensitive taxpayer personal identity info was lost, including social security numbers, and that’s what Otto criticized, saying there were steps that should have been taken, especially with taxpayer identity info at stake. Somebody breaking in by prying or breaking open a window is not comparable. Should the DFL bar the windows? Against fire code. Could the same thing happen to the Republican party? Yes.

Let’s see … State owned computers that may or may not have had confidential data on them such as employee personell data, bank information and such … vs privately owned computers that have already been confirmed not to have any personal or financial data on them?
Also, the three computers at the auditors office “disappeared” and were “deemed an inside job” vs someone physically and violently breaking windows and grabbing the computers?
Apple meet orange.

Hey Tom, go read the StarTrib article. This one was brought to the State Rep, who is driving it.

Eyes closed. Spinning in circles until you feel like heaving. The Tilt-A-Whirl is indeed a lot like the DFL.
And please don’t even tell us what the democrats want to do with the Pronto Pups from the State Fair.

Southern Minny Moderate,
You’re right that one should never blame the victim. However, that doesn’t give the victim carte blanche to recklessly accuse others of the crime. There is no evidence that any Republican was involved. Yet if you read the liberal blogs, you will see people blame Karl Rove for a conspiracy to steal laptops.
March 29th, 2007 at 4:42 PM
Chris I think the Karl Rove comment was tongue-n-cheek. Perhaps Michael’s headline is also in the same vain? I don’t know, I do think however there is a big difference between a break in and the misplacing of computers. Don’t really see how it can be suggested that these two things are even close to being the same.

It wasn’t Rove. Last night, he was dancing:

Simple: Republican equals criminal and they are responsible for the theft.
They have no arguement or idea for the future of the state and so they have steeped to theivery.
March 29th, 2007 at 11:19 PM
I think we need to understand what we did to force the so called “criminal” to do such an act. Was it poverty? Our Christian values? Or maybe it’s just desparation. If John Kerry was Preseident, this wouldn’t have happened.

If you have a good job, you don’t need to steal a computer to buy food.
If you have an good education, you have a chance at a good job.
If you have a stable home life and good public schools, you have a chance at an good education.
If your parents have stable jobs, medical care, and safe, stable housing, you have a good chance at a stable home life.

Sans, your idiotic comment reminds me of the Hillary ad a couple of weeks ago when hundreds of goofball liberals were blaming Republicans on numerous blogs.
After it was learned that a Democrat from Obama’s side was the culprit, I didn’t see a word of apology from the Lefty clowns. I guess being a liberal means never having to say your sorry, or admitting when you are wrong.
March 30th, 2007 at 7:42 AM
Dash was there a point in your retort?
Someone should get a warrant for Ron Carey’s house.
March 30th, 2007 at 10:00 AM
Well, luckily for us, Becky’s been elected, so all double standards can be ignored. Now she can unleash her windmill and Preius and, as long as there’s no math involved, get to the bottom of all this. And she’ll get jobs for the perps, too, I hear.
March 30th, 2007 at 8:15 PM
MDE would call a rape victim “incompetent” for not protecting themselves.
Weren’t you incompetent when you got yourself in a car accident several weeks back?
