KLINE TOWN HALL MEETING RULES: NO RULE AGAINST LIVE-BLOGGING

Contrary to the inaccurate reporting of certain blog, there was no prohibition on live-blogging at Congressman Kline's town hall meeting. Above is a copy of the rules distributed before the town hall meeting began.
I walked into the auditorium, found a place to sit and used my Verizon Wireless Air-Card to access the Internet. It is was not the responsibility of Lakeville South High School (the taxpayers) or Congressman Kline's office (the taxpayers) to provide me with access to the Internet.
To prevent being scooped on future live-blogging events, I would suggest liberal bloggers buy air-cards, rather than creating conspiracy theories that "some conservative bloggers were allowed internet access."

Funny, because I met Greg Utecht of Lakeville School District 194 at the auditorium, he had everything there to hook me up to the internet per arrangements I had made that day…and I was told by a Kline staffer that I could not do so. She even sent another staffer back to converse with Troy Young–and was told that I couldn’t.
Now, if ISD 194 was opposed to me using their network, I’d understand and agree that I had no expectation to be able to use it–but they had already approved the set-up. It was the Kline camp that nixed it.
In fact–funny story–I told you this as we walked out of the meeting together, Mike. You’d think you would mention it. It happened…oh…four hours ago.

Maybe if you actually paid for a card, you would have access but I guess you expect a hand out!

Jeff: I’m calling into question the accuracy of your reporting and of Robin’s claim that “No Live Coverage” of Kline’s town hall meeting was allowed.
To be more blunt Jeff, I just don’t believe you. Your reporting of Congressman Kline’s town hall meeting has been very sloppy.
Last evening’s rant from Robin was just another example of why it makes no sense to have a code of ethics if you’re not going to follow it.
It is poor blogging for Robin, your “editor”, to claim that “No Live Coverage” of Kline’s town hall meeting was allowed, when I was
typing away on my computer 100 feet away from the stage.

Jeff was told there would be access. Kline’s staff told him not to use it.
A “rant” would be 10 posts on a subject, as you well know. I am fairly certain I did not “rant”.
Your concern for my ethics touches me. I wish you showed a little concern for your own.

There was no rule that prevented live-coverage of Kline’s town hall meeting. Your headline “Kline Town Hall Update – No Live Coverage Allowed” was inaccurate. Again, I was live-blogging the event.
I have posted a copy of the rules, which lists no prohibition against live blogging.
There were not two sets of rules. Live-blogging was allowed.

For all of the Soros money liberal bloggers receive, one would think that they would be fully equipped to live blog any event anywhere by possessing wireless internet access cards. But, then again, this whole dispute proves what we all know: Republicans like Michael don’t expect government to fund their activities and thus are self-sufficient, whereas liberals apparently belive it is the role of government and the taxpayer to subsidize their political activities.

On a less bratty note, let’s look at the way meetings are set up in public facilities.
Rep. Kline’s staff arranges a meeting to be held at the school. There is some sort of paperwork that goes with that describing what is allowed and what is verbooten. Kline’s staff sign the agreement. Kline’s staff is the responsible party.
Hypothetically a blogger contacts the school independently and asks if there is a wireless network or other internet access at the school. The school staffer says no problem. But the party contractually responsible for the event isn’t involved in this interaction.
Blogger shows up and at that point the extraordinary measure agreed to by the school staffer becomes known to the responsible party.
Here’s the rub. What if the responsible party does not feel that it is ethical for public assets to be exploited for the benefit of a private party? Is it the responsible party’s right to decide whether that’s cool or not.
It’s today’s point ……of……. law.

Anyone who thinks Chestnut has it all figured out should read the comments section under the Friday’s story “MN GOP: Taxapalooza on Steroids: Senate Democrats…”. Read the comments section from about #110 forward to see if you can make any sense out of what he’s writing. It’s one thing to have a different political outlook than someone else. It’s another thing to not be able to read and to call people names.

Lets cut the shit and get to the real point. The anti-war crowd was expecting a BIG WIN against Kline last night. They thought they were going to have a room packed full of anti-war protesters. They were wrong.
They were matched in numbers by the supporters of Congressman Kline and his efforts at liberating Iraq. Combine this with the local DFL now backing off their promises to raise taxes and you get a very annoyed fringe, left base.

Jeff – maybe you should have done the RIGHT thing by asking the host of the event (ie the Kline office) if WiFi would be available. If you had done so, you would have known well in advance (as I did) that WiFi would not be available.

I also talked to Troy that night. And he admitted that the school was capable of wifi but that it was not being turned on. When I started to ask if they could turn it on, he pointed out that really they wanted to treat everyone equally so therefore they wouldn’t be providing access to ANYONE.
Equality. However, since Fecke possesses a natural handicap (his head) I can see why he’s not satisfied with equality for everyone. He needs his internet short bus.
To say that live-blogging was not allowed is a lie. To say that internet access was only provided to conservative bloggers is a lie. To say that internet access was not provided to anyone is the truth. There’s a free lesson for you.

-Klobuchar is encouraging people to rally from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the State Capitol on April 14, in support of changes to dealing with global warming. I will be there with my daughter. I’ll be the fat bald guy with the unbelievably cute 4-year-old.

I hear the liberals are really going to be there because they are truly afraid that Jason Lewis and his tax rally folks might have an effect on coming tax policies. This would be how the left protects it’s income because we all know there are a lot of liberals waiting for the tax increases to go through so they can get a raise.
