I also talked to Troy that night. And he admitted that the school was capable of wifi but that it was not being turned on. When I started to ask if they could turn it on, he pointed out that really they wanted to treat everyone equally so therefore they wouldn’t be providing access to ANYONE.

Equality. However, since Fecke possesses a natural handicap (his head) I can see why he’s not satisfied with equality for everyone. He needs his internet short bus.

Lets cut the shit and get to the real point. The anti-war crowd was expecting a BIG WIN against Kline last night. They thought they were going to have a room packed full of anti-war protesters. They were wrong.

They were matched in numbers by the supporters of Congressman Kline and his efforts at liberating Iraq. Combine this with the local DFL now backing off their promises to raise taxes and you get a very annoyed fringe, left base.

Rep. Kline’s staff arranges a meeting to be held at the school. There is some sort of paperwork that goes with that describing what is allowed and what is verbooten. Kline’s staff sign the agreement. Kline’s staff is the responsible party.

Hypothetically a blogger contacts the school independently and asks if there is a wireless network or other internet access at the school. The school staffer says no problem. But the party contractually responsible for the event isn’t involved in this interaction.

Blogger shows up and at that point the extraordinary measure agreed to by the school staffer becomes known to the responsible party.

Here’s the rub. What if the responsible party does not feel that it is ethical for public assets to be exploited for the benefit of a private party? Is it the responsible party’s right to decide whether that’s cool or not.

It’s today’s point ……of……. law.

Just make it about “domestic partner” internet access, it’s all the rage this year!

There was no rule that prevented live-coverage of Kline’s town hall meeting. Your headline “Kline Town Hall Update – No Live Coverage Allowed” was inaccurate. Again, I was live-blogging the event.

I have posted a copy of the rules, which lists no prohibition against live blogging.

There were not two sets of rules. Live-blogging was allowed.

Jeff was told there would be access. Kline’s staff told him not to use it.

A “rant” would be 10 posts on a subject, as you well know. I am fairly certain I did not “rant”.

To be more blunt Jeff, I just don’t believe you. Your reporting of Congressman Kline’s town hall meeting has been very sloppy.

Last evening’s rant from Robin was just another example of why it makes no sense to have a code of ethics if you’re not going to follow it.

It is poor blogging for Robin, your “editor”, to claim that “No Live Coverage” of Kline’s town hall meeting was allowed, when I was
typing away on my computer 100 feet away from the stage.

Bring your own access, moron.

Maybe if you actually paid for a card, you would have access but I guess you expect a hand out!

Now, if ISD 194 was opposed to me using their network, I’d understand and agree that I had no expectation to be able to use it–but they had already approved the set-up. It was the Kline camp that nixed it.

In fact–funny story–I told you this as we walked out of the meeting together, Mike. You’d think you would mention it. It happened…oh…four hours ago.
