FRANKEN’S CAMPAIGN PRAISED POLL SHOWING FRANKEN DOWN BY 10 POINTS, NOW HE’S DOWN BY 22 POINTS!

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 14, 2007

In a blog post from March, Al Franken's campaign claimed Franken was gaining ground on Senator Norm Coleman:

"A newly-released poll indicates that the U.S. Senate race in Minnesota has tightened dramatically since satirist and author Al Franken announced his candidacy.

The poll, conducted on March 7 by independent pollster Rasmussen Reports, shows Senator Norm Coleman leading Franken 46% to 36%. Rasmussen notes that 'incumbents who poll below 50% are considered potentially vulnerable.' In addition, Franken holds a lead among voters under age 30.

The survey polled 500 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4.5%. It is the first survey of likely voters so far in the campaign. However, a survey of registered voters conducted by Survey USA immediately prior to Franken's Feb. 14 announcement shows Sen. Coleman with a 22 point lead, as compared to the 10 point lead he holds in the poll conducted just three weeks later." Source: Al Franken for U.S. Senate, March 15, 2007

A new MPR poll now shows that Coleman has a widened his lead over Franken to 22 points.   Since Franken's campaign trumpeted the results of a poll showing Franken down by 10, what will they do now that Franken has lost ground and is down by 22 points?

This post also appears on Blogs for Norm!, an online community and blog covering the 2008 U.S. Senate campaign in Minnesota. The primary goal of Blogs for Norm! is to organize bloggers who support U.S. Senator Norm Coleman.

“Franken holds a lead among voters under age 30.”… The group least likely to actually show up at the polls…

…and Chestnut…they are also the least likely to actually VOTE. Proven in EVERY election. Even with “VOTE OR DIE” crapola campaigns put together with the help of thug rappers.

I remember hearing that it was the under 30 age group that helped Ventura win because of his likability amongst this group, they turned out in mucher larger numbers than previous elections. If this is true (I didnt live in MN and was only like 10 when this happened so I am not sure), then maybe the same will happen in Al’s favor.

Being somewhat younger (mid-30′s) and living in Minnesota….I just don’t see Al as having the your excitment factor that Jesse had. An ex-professional wrestler who told welfare advocates to get off their asses and get a job has more appeal to the 24 year old male then Franken probably does.
