MDE FROM THE ARCHIVES: FRANKEN SAID HIS “LIFE” IS IN NEW YORK, NEVER SAW HIMSELF MOVING BACK TO MINNESOTA
By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 24, 2007
"Q: Do you ever see yourself moving back here (Minnesota)?
A: I visit family a lot, but no, I think I'm in New York pretty much permanently. My life is here, my kids grew up as New Yorkers." Source: Minnesota Monthly, November 1998

Haunting. Only two years after Coleman co-chaired Wellstone’s re-elect campaign.

That is one thing I liked about Rod Grams. Grew up on a farm. Was very Minnesotan. The guy collects and restores Allis-Chalmer tractors as a hobby (or was it Case?…one of the orange ones).

I hate the “gotcha” politics, but it would be fun to quiz Al on basic Minnesota issues, geography, history, maybe even pronouncing place names. See how deep his Minnesota ties go. It would be fair to do it to Republicans also then.

Very haunting. Angry Al made these statements, and within 12 months, Judy Dutcher flipped parties to the DFL. And Dean “Sanding off the Truth” Johnson soon followed.
Very haunting, indeed.

Al also said in his interview on the Today Show that the reason he’s running is because of the way US politics has been going the past six years. In 1998 Clinton was president and things were going much, much better in the US. Franken didn’t feel the need to get as involved in politics then. Since 1998, however, a lot has changed, including his moving his life back to MN (what with his kids in/graduated from college, his radio show moving to MN, etc. he obviously wasn’t as centered in NY). I’m glad he’s decided to come back home to help get America back on track.
