In 1998 Clinton was president and things were going much, much better in the US. Franken didn't feel the need to get as involved in politics then. Since 1998, however, a lot has changed, including his moving his life back to MN (what with his kids in/graduated from college, his radio show moving to MN, etc. he obviously wasn't as centered in NY). I'm glad he's decided to come back home to help get America back on track.
