ST. CLOUD TIMES REPORTER: LAST TWO HOURS OF FLOOR DEBATE IN MINNESOTA HOUSE MADE HIM “NAUSEOUS AND ANGRY”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 27, 2007

"But Monday night shook me out of that complacency. The last two hours of debate on the floor of the House of Representatives made me nauseous and angry.

I don't know if House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Democrats' decision to run roughshod over the GOP minority to finish on time was within the rules, but I know it was wrong." Source: St. Cloud Times, May 27, 2007

“House Republicans were stalling, running the clock out to force a special session. Many of them believed House Democrats would take the blame if the people’s work didn’t get done on time.

    That was just as wrong.”

  2. Chet Says:

House Republicans were stalling, running the clock out to force a special session.

I disagree. Trying to understand what’s in a huge billion-some dollar bill isn’t stalling it’s good representation. If Large Marge and these DFL clowns hadn’t wasted the last several weeks making this come down to the wire it wouldn’t have been an issue. They are 100% to blame, not republicans.

  3. Chestnut Says:
    May 27th, 2007 at 6:57 PM

Even if House Republicans were stalling to force a special session, that might have been the right strategy given the boat load of irresponsible, destructive legislation the DFL was trying to cram down everyone’s throats in the waning minutes of the session.

    DFL: Disastrous Fraudulent Legislators.

  4. Chet Says:
    May 27th, 2007 at 7:31 PM

“…Chavez sparked international criticism with his decision to not renew RCTV’s license and to replace Venezuela’s most-watched channel with a state-backed network that will promote the values of his self-styled socialist revolution.

Since coming to power in 1999, Chavez has taken control of the judiciary, army and crucial oil industry as part of his leftist reform campaign…”

Imagine what this session could have been like if Hatch had won and the DFL controlled it all. Large Marge rules with an iron fist and muzzling opposing voices. And that’s with just the Senate and House.

If Hatch had won we would see massive tax increases, massive increases in restrictions and rules and who knows what else.

  5. Leave it to beaver Says:
    May 27th, 2007 at 11:58 PM

Wait. It this the same Larry Schumacher that interviewed Michele Bachmann and didn’t realize what she had said about her secret “plan” to divide up Iran? It took a Strib blog to break that story nearly three weeks later. That Schumacher guy is an idiot.

  6. WildBlue Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 7:34 AM

    Chet,

Why do you refer to the Speaker as Large Marge? That doesn’t seem very respectful. I don’t remember people saying Skinny Steve.

  7. Chet Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 9:40 AM

    Respect?

Large Marge will get respect when she’s earned it. Her, in her stylish Hoigaard Brown Shirt (could be a Coleman tent, hard to see the tag), shut down opposition to bills she wanted passed. She didn’t allow discussion. She ignored pleas for rules to be followed. She ruled with the kind of iron fist only Stalin and his ilk could respect.

She’ll get respect when it is earned. As it stands, she ought to resign her position in embarrassment. But I know DFL’ers have no shame because abusing power for their own ends is part of how they operate.

  8. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 9:57 AM

    Large Marge, Two-Ton Tessie, Fatty-Fatty Two-By-Four, Plump Peggy, etc…

Is that enough respect for that dictatorial cow?

  9. san soucri Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 12:43 PM

Chet, you sound like a guy who would punch his own Asian-Lady Boy Lover in the face to get bigger piece of the pie.

Mark Olson – Beats his wife. Good Republican.

  10. Kerosene Hat Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 1:22 PM

    San Soucri,

Kennedy killed a woman. Good Democrat? I think it is so funny that those who are the most offended by Chet or Chestnut are those most similar to them.

  11. WildBlue Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 2:15 PM

Chet and Chestnut, thanks for demonstrating the very thing that makes politics such a joy these days. With comments like yours, I have great hope for this world becoming a better place.

  12. WildBlue Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 3:08 PM

Michael (and any other dedicated conservative readers), do you condone comments such as those made by Chet and Chestnut?

  13. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 3:45 PM

I find Chet’s comments to be right on the mark. I’m not so sure of the crocodile tears shed by WildBlue… is this the same “WildBlue” who pops on here occasionally to call us Nazis and Bush a terrorist?

    Don’t cry for me Argentina!

  14. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 3:52 PM

Come to think of it, the idea of any Democrat decrying the loss of civility in politics should offend anyone. The absolute hate, anger and violence against opponents coming from the DFL and liberal groups is absolutely sickening.

It’s like listening to to the KKK decry racism.

  15. WildBlue Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 4:03 PM

Chestnut, feel free to search the archives. Nazi or Terrorist have never come out of my keyboard. I am anxiously awaiting your conservative friends to defend you. Let’s see how many of them do.

  16. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 5:37 PM

I’m not anxiously awaiting anything. Still, it is funny the idea of any liberal decrying incivility. You bastards invented it.

… and I’ll stand with Chet in holding someone as awful as Margaret Kelliher in such low regard. She’s the epitome of bad-faith, bad behavior Democrats, and that tub of crap has received all the respect she deserves here.

  17. WildBlue Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 6:15 PM

Still Chestnut’s the only one defending his behavior. It is a holiday. Maybe all the people who think calling someone “Large Marge, Two-Ton Tessie, Fatty-Fatty Two-By-Four, Plump Peggy, and a dictatorial cow” will come to his defense tomorrow.

BTW Chestnut, I don’t think all republicans are incivil nor do I think all dems are. I think some are on both sides and don’t believe it is necessary.

  18. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 6:48 PM

    You forgot “tub of crap.”

  19. Chet Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 6:54 PM

Chet, you sound like a guy who would punch his own Asian-Lady Boy Lover in the face to get bigger piece of the pie.

    Huh?

    Are you on drugs?

  20. Chet Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 6:55 PM

Mark Olson – Beats his wife. Good Republican.

By the way, I believe he pushed her, not “beat” her. Not that either is right but let’s at least make an attempt at being accurate (even if you are on drugs).

  21. Chet Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 6:59 PM

Chet and Chestnut, thanks for demonstrating the very thing that makes politics such a joy these days. With comments like yours, I have great hope for this world becoming a better place.

    Let’s compare:

Large Marge shuts off ANY opposing voices. She doesn’t allow ANY questions on a massive state funding bill. She rams through this bill without even answering questions as to why she’s breaking their own rules.

I call her on it and compare her totalitarian rule with Nazis.

Yet, to this little goodie two shoes (who’s probably called Republicans “Nazi’s” a time or two, I’m the bad guy.

I love the arrogance of todays liberal.

  22. Chet Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 7:00 PM

Michael (and any other dedicated conservative readers), do you condone comments such as those made by Chet and Chestnut?

A weak attempt at censorship. She’s wanting MDE to stiffle our voices because she doesn’t like the words.

    Typical liberal.

  23. Chet Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 7:03 PM

I am anxiously awaiting your conservative friends to defend you.

I don’t need anyone defending me or my words.

On the other hand, Large Marge needs a lot of defending. She’s a brown shirt put in charge of the House by people who clearly agree with how she operates this body.

Are you defending the totalitarianism that now exists in the House? I believe you’re attempting to deflect attention away from the clear abuse of power by this weak “please be nice” crap.

  24. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 7:04 PM

It’s an inexact science, but I’d say 80 percent of liberals are angry, distasteful pigs. The other 20 percent agrees with them.

And sure, there are a few choice conservatives out there. Hell, I’m enjoying yanking your chain… but, you will never find the volume of hate and vitriol coming from the “right” that you will from the “left.”… and the “right” does not accept anger and hate… the “left” not only accepts it, it champions it.

It’s no wonder that hundreds of millions have been murdered at the hands of liberals.

  25. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 7:13 PM

Chet actually makes a funny point: Here’s WildBlue feigning offense by me calling Kellihar a fat dictatorial pig. Yet he/she:
    - called Chet a abusive sexual deviant (“a guy who would punch his own Asian-Lady Boy Lover in the face” — I assume that’s an expression of extreme prejudice against Asian transvestites and homosexuals as well); and
    - didn’t decry sans sense’s calling Mark Olson a wife beater.

Yes, WildBlue is so very interested in changing the discourse.

Don’t cry for me Argentina. LOL

  26. Chet Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 8:13 PM

I’m beginning to think WildBlue IS Large Marge.

  27. WildBlue Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 8:30 PM

Six hours later, and still only Chet and Chestnut justifying their comments. Chestnut, I haven’t called Chet anything. Check back to post #9 and you’ll see that was San Soucri.

Since you are concerned about the lack of meaningful debate on the last night of the session, I’d be interested in knowing if you think a single vote would have changed as a result. I’m pretty sure not too votes change on the floor because of some eloquent speech. What should have gotten said that didn’t get said? Perhaps you can enlighten us all about the impact of this gross injustice.

As for Chet’s concern about censorship, that’s not my interest. I’m actually wondering how many people on the right share Chet and Chestnut’s point of view and believe this kind name calling is acceptable.

  28. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 8:49 PM

Following full, reasoned debate on a mammoth tax bill, versus 11th hour man-handling by the DFL, I think many votes would have changed, WB.

The DFL, as always, was silencing the opposition and obstructing informed debate.

Here, I’d be interested in your opinion on/defense of any of these liberal icons: http://images.google.com/images?um=1&tab=wi&client=firefox-a&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=bush+hitler

    Or these liberal icons:
    http://images.google.com/images?um=1&tab=wi&client=firefox-a&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=bush+nazi

  29. WildBlue Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 8:54 PM

I think the pictures in the links are disrespectful of a sitting president, just as your comments are of the Speaker of the House.

  30. Chestnut Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 9:01 PM

You get 2 points for … honesty.

And… there’s no question my comments are disrespectful of Margaret Kelliher. Hopefully, one day she’ll be competent and less disrespectful of the minority party in her role.

  31. W. James Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 9:02 PM

If anyone needs defending, its not Chet or Chestnut, its the DFL sheep legislators who voted “yes” on bills they never even read just because Mamma Marge said to. They will need defending from their voters when their voters actually ask them what they voted for. The DFL sheep will have to say “I don’t know” what was in the bills…. Any other answer would be a fabrication or (pause for dramatic effect) A LIE!

  32. WildBlue Says:
    May 28th, 2007 at 9:06 PM

Chet and Chestnut, it’s been an interesting exchange. If you want to object about behavior, that seems fair to me. Calling someone fat strikes me as uncalled for. I hope you’ll focus on behaviors instead of the person going forward. I’m signing off for the night. Have a good week.

You just made my day, little man. I laughed and laughed and laughed at this one.

I must go now so I can live a “litte” and get out of my “cardboard box”. Got to go to work flipping burgers in my podunk town so I can afford my Nintendo games in my parents basement.

    Jeez, talk about “weakminded”.

Again, thanks for the good laugh this morning.

  38. Kerosene Hat Says:
    May 29th, 2007 at 7:19 AM

Well it is so nice to see san sourci prove my point from post #10. I’ll defend Chet’s or Chestnut’s right to be crude all day if I felt they needed it. With the DFL this year I think the facts of how they ran the house and senate are much more embarrassing than the speakers weight or a DUI charge so I figure why bother.

  39. Chet Says:
    May 29th, 2007 at 7:56 AM

I’ll defend Chet’s or Chestnut’s right to be crude all day if I felt they needed it.

Generally I won’t engage in “crude” Large Marge type talk. But it is so fun tweaking people like WildBlue, especially when they’re just doing it to deflect attention away from the real issue of their DFL buddies having ruled the House with a Stalinist hand.

As for Marge, can’t we be nice? Let’s just call her large boned….

So would that be “Large Barge”, then? Just asking.

  40. Swiftee Says:
    May 29th, 2007 at 8:24 AM

    WildBlue is right.

It is very disrespectful to call Kelliher “Large Marge”..the fact that she does make the idea of a bloated cow seem miniscule has nothing to do with her moonbat politics.

It’s not her fault that she can’t stop stuffing her pie hole until there is a danger of imminent rupture…she’s a victim, damn it!

It’s just wrong to compare Ms. Kelliher’s corpus to a plastic container full of rendered pork fat….don’t so it.

Those who spread rumors that she wears roller skates to make transport easier are irresponsible.

She’s a Democrat, binging is a time honored tradition that she has merely extended beyond the public’s collective wallet.

  41. Southern Minny Moderate Says:
    May 29th, 2007 at 9:18 AM

    Wow. Sad.

Suggested new things to post about, rather than substance or policY:

Tom Rukavina and Tarryl Clark are both sort of short.
Pogemiller has kind of a big nose.
Leo Foley is ALMOST 80 years old.
Charles Wiger has WAY too much hair.
Yvonne Prettner Solon is a widow.
    Steve Simon is awfully pale.
Tim Mahnoey has a receeding hair line.
Mary Ellen Otrmeba apparently thnks she has two first names.
Gene Pelowski jr. stole someone else’s name.
Cy Thao–short AND a receeding hair line–go after him EXTRA hard!

This is sad, really. Michael, I know you to be a good and decent person–why aren’t you commenting on this thread of dishonor?

  42. Chet Says:
    May 29th, 2007 at 9:36 AM

What is “wow” and “sad” are people like this who simply have no sense of humor. Lighten up, Minny Pearl.

  43. Chestnut Says:

    Souther Minnesota Moderate has cooties.

  44. Big Kahuna Says:
    May 29th, 2007 at 10:47 AM

One must assume then that Minny and Wild Blue spend a tremedous amount of time going to democRat and liberal sites posting about their disgust over the hate for the other side. ;)

I would bet they have not and would never complain about thier side and the hate they have.

No one can hate like a liberal and everyone knows this! Politics are inportant to conservatives but politics to a liberal are on the same level as religion for them. The end justifys the means for these folks. It has been very clear the last few election cycles that it is the democrats who benefit from election fraud year after year! It is a pasrty without a moral compass or even an idea of what is right or wrong. All that matters to them is gaining more power over the people so they can FORCE their politics upon us.

Do you really think the DFL would have won even one seat had they been honest about their plans?? I think not and once again the right was proven right as far as liberals and democRats wanted to jack up taxes yet again to spend on social programs. This during a year with a surplus thanks to our hero governor who actually did what he said he would do. I am waiting to find a democRat who can say the same.

  45. Shozzy Says:
    May 29th, 2007 at 2:41 PM

Since when did the words “fat” or “large” become so offensive to people? Margaret Kelliher is fat. That is simply a factual description of her physique. Does it have anything to do with her politics? no. But it’s certainly a fair description of what she looks like for those who may not know. Perhaps more PC- “she’s a big gal”.

Was reading my kids a book today with pictures of opposites, “fat and thin” included with a picture of a cartoon pig and a cartoon snake. Liberals would want a book wherre the pig is a “victim of transfats” and the snake is a “victim of societal pressures to achieve a certain body type”. They’ll be banning certain foods soon enough (like NYC) to try to help fat people not to get fat.

    The word police. Please.

  46. Big Kahuna Says:
    May 29th, 2007 at 4:35 PM

Shozzy too true! Marge is fat and for that matter also not very bright to the point one might call her stupid. I believe that to be factual as well and not really applying to political party affiliation. :)

Just as one might say Wellstone had trouble telling the truth or one could also say he was an out right lair. :) Seems same could be said for dean Johnson or Mea Moua or good ole poggy. :)

To be honest I am not so sure there are any honest and fair DFL’rs anymore. The party here in Mn has been pretty much taken over by liberal extremist which is exactly what will be the downfall of the DFL here in MN come 2008! Once exposed, liberalism never succeeds as very few really want anything to do with those failed policies. :)
