WEST CENTRAL TRIBUNE: “SESSION OVER, DFL AGENDA IS FAR FROM COMPLETE”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 28, 2007
"ST. PAUL — On a sunny day last August, House Democrats told reporters gathered at the Minnesota State Fair their top three issues in the 2007 legislative session would be health care, education and property tax relief.
Senate Democrats later embraced those three priorities, while adding more of their own.
But if success is defined as getting priorities passed into law, they didn’t fare well.
The House and Senate each passed bills doing what Democrats wanted, but pending Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s decision on some bills passed at the end of the legislative session, the public may consider the priorities failures to some degree.
The reason Democratic priorities fizzled was because of 'a difference in political philosophies that collided here,' said Rep. Marsha Swails, DFL-Woodbury.
Voters who hoped to see DFL priorities achieved over the session likely won't blame the governor, Swails said.
'They’ll blame the Legislature, sadly,' Swails said." Source: West Central Tribune, May 28, 2007

They’ll blame the legislature, rightly… is what she should have said. Those clowns neglected the items they ran on — if one is generous enough to say they ran on anything — and opted to push issues that the public does not support.
As incompetent as all Democrats are, plumbed new depths of failure.
May 28th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
Seems to me Swails and the Dems in charge had no problem blaming the Republicans when they were in charge. What comes around, goes around. Enjoy.

I wouldnt blame the legislature, its what the voters wanted. Elect lots of DFL’ers who cant do what they got elected for because the voters also decided to elect Pawlenty. Minnesota likes divided politics apparently and this what happens when you have both parties ruling a part of the government. If the voters really wanted the DFL to accomplish their goals, they would’ve voted for Hatch.

Were it only that the incompetent DFL was actually pushing any sort of agenda for which they were elected, Andrew. They pushed crap that their special interests wanted, not what the public wanted.
Some time this spring, the DFL decided that they’d do all the things they spent time saying they wouldn’t do if elected…
Tim Pawlenty is the only politician that’s following through on his campaign promises.
The Democrats are frauds.

If the DFL would have campaigned on higher taxes, free higher education for illegals, more failed light rail, etc., they wouldn’t have been elected in the first place.
I hope the voters in Minnesota realize they were lied to big time!

The DFL campaigned on working in a bi-partisan manner. Then they elected Larry and Marge to the leadership position in the Senate and House. Showing that they were not interested in working with the Minority at all.
But at least they were smart enough not to let Larry and Marge speak to the public about the session.

Smart observers knew the DFL got away with the bait-and-swithc of all time last year and this session proved it. Marsha Swails, I hope you have another job you can go back to.
May 29th, 2007 at 10:38 am
The nice part is how so many in MN are coming to realize this and I believe the DFL will be handed thier first defeat in MN in many, many years.
I do believe the DFL may have played their last best hand in 2006 and will be in some big trouble for 2008.
The democrats may be all puffed out and pleased with their picks for president in 2008 but the reality of it is they have many who even democrats will not vote for! I cannot see any way that Hillary wins!
Which of course is a great thing because I cannot imagine a worse president that what Hillary would be. Obama is a fad and will lose his steam for a bit and than gain it back as the polls show Hillary cannot win. Which will be fun to watch as we all know she does not take “no” very well.
Will be like Hatch and blame the voters for not electing her.
Andrew you seem to want to bring the light to Pawlenty instead of your side which have caved and played bait and switch games. I have yet to see you ever admit that the DFL is out of control and in trouble! Instead you always seem to want to divert attention away from any DFL issues that make them look bad. HMMM……
May 29th, 2007 at 11:48 am
Oh I have absolutely admitted the DFL was out of control. Look at every single tax-a-palooza post, I always said I support some of the taxes but they pushed entirely too many and it was stupid to do so.
The DFL may be in trouble in 2008, we may lose some house seats which I think is only natural, the GOP lost some seats in 1996 after their Republican revolution I believe. The DFL rode the blue wave, got some lucky seats that will probable be taken back. I dont think though the Republicans will take back the House, and if they do, bravo, we probably deserve it.
Although your comments about the president, false. I firmly believe every Democrat will come together, regardless of the nominee, rally behind them and work our asses off. Hillary comes off divisive and may not attract as many independents, but you can be sure the Democrats are PISSED that Bush ruined our country for the past 8 years and we dont care who gets the nomination, we are winning this one.
My suggestion, vote Guilianni, he is your only hope.

Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined a broad economic vision Tuesday, saying it’s time to replace an “on your own” society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.
If anyone needs anymore proof that Mrs. Bill Clinton is a socialist (so is Hugo Chavez) this would end all doubt.

Being from Woodbury (48 yrs) I hear allot of conversation from those who voted for Marsha Swails and the comments are not in a positive manner for her.
Like what ryan t said – if she does not have a job to go back to, she had better start looking.
May 29th, 2007 at 1:57 pm
Chet,
Hillary is f’n scary. If she’s advocating legislating that sort of society, then she is destroying every core principle with which this country was founded. Interesting thing is, Democrats have been driving to do that for generations now.
May 29th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Chestnut- BushI was the New World Order guy not Hilary… Bush has destroyed nearly every core principle our country has… when 70% of the country hates you there is usually a reason why…
May 29th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Hillary’s statement is another version of her “It Takes a Village” mentality. Liberals keep denying the problems the core of their beliefs in socialism which means that Ms. Clinton’s statements won’t raise an eyebrow to those on the left or be talked about by the media for what it is. If she has her way all personal liberties would be destroyed with their tortured interpretation of the commerce clause.
May 29th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Manny you should pull your head (and radio tuned to Air America) out of your ass.
Which Bush are you claiming to have destroyed nearly every core priciple the country has? Then again I would like to hear your view of what this country’s core priciples are. That would be good for a laugh I am sure. Can someone say “Socialism” I am sure Manny can.
I also think you could have written in your opion about how 70% of the country “hates” you?? Please site your source for this tidbit of information by the great enlightend Manny.
Just another hating liberal who make me giggle just a little when I think of how much of your life you most likely waste with your hate.
Maybe we can find a way to keep President Bush in office another term?
Just so I can see all the liberals explode in anger.
May 29th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
Oh, you guys just can’t stand it that George W. Bush was re-elected to a 2nd term, long after the country knew about the WMDs– 60 Million people voted for him and his popularity ratings are on par with most late 2-term presidents. I love that he makes you so mad. I hated Bill Clinton too, so I “feel your pain”. Don’t worry, George is almost done. I can’t wait till he sits back like the class-act he is and gets out of the limelight like any good former president should.
If there had to be a Dem in the White House, I’m fully confident they’d achieve absolutely nothing just like Clinton I and Carter achieved nothing. Of course, those two jackasses know nothing about staying out of the limelight for the sake of their “legacies”.
May 29th, 2007 at 3:14 pm
Manny said: “Bush has destroyed nearly every core principle our country has”…
Name one. Then prove it. Cite facts. Credit will not be given for the paranoid delusions of the tin-foil hat brigade.

Back on topic – ‘a difference in political philosophies that collided here,’
Like “We wanted to tax and spend the living hell out of everyone but the Repubs wouldn’t let us.â€
I’m so sorry our philosophies didn’t allow you to destroy the state economy. Better luck with your socialism next time.
May 30th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Manny and the rest on the left operate one way “Stupidlyâ€
For clarity:
stupidly
- in unintelligent way: in a way that demonstrates lack of intelligence, perception, or common sense
- in bewilderment: in a way that suggests diminished ability to perceive or reason
May 30th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
We should be grateful that “Madman” Mike Hatch wasn’t elected governor. I’m sure he would have supported virtually all of the demcratic legisltures ideas.
June 4th, 2007 at 12:29 pm
I’m just grateful that Al Gore invented the internet.
