THANKS TO GOVERNOR PAWLENTY, MINNESOTA CONTINUES TO DROP IN HIGHEST TAX RANKINGS
By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 11, 2007
"MADISON – Wisconsin dropped from the sixth highest taxed state to eighth, according to an analysis of Census Bureau data released today by the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance.
State and local taxes claimed 12.13 percent of personal income in 2004-05, which was down slightly from 12.18 percent during the previous year, the new report showed. Wisconsin was one of 11 states where taxes declined as a share of income.
But Wisconsin's drop in rank was due primarily to increased taxes elsewhere rather than lower taxes here, according to the study.
For example, Alaska jumped from 19th to fifth, due largely to an increase in taxes, the report showed. Minnesota dropped from 16th to 21st, but actually saw its state and local tax burden rise from 11.2 percent of personal income to 11.4 percent, according to the Alliance." In two years Minnesota dropped from 10 to 21 in rank of taxes thanks to Governor Pawlenty's leadership. I wonder why the Twin Cities media hasn't reported this information?
Imagine if Hatch was governor and the DFL's $5 billion in taxes increases became law?

Thank God we have Pawlenty!
The current DFL group would love nothing more than to raise your taxes and get to the work of growing government! Many of these DFL’ers have families now that have kids coming up who will need government jobs as well so we best dig in and get used to paying more so the DFL can keep employing more liberals in government.
Ever wonder what would happen if we banned liberals from working for the government? If they had to actually make it in the private working world? I bet they would all be packing up and looking for some other socialist country to soak off of.
Liberals just plain suck ass!

Its funny though that our taxes still raised from 11.2% to 11.4%. Hahahaha, your taxes still got raised.

Methinks you have selective reading disorder.
Our drop from 16 to 21 has nothing to do with our fiscal responsibility, but as the article points out probably has as much as anything with other states increasing their taxes– like Alaska, which was mentioned in the article.
And, you crowing about this while the very next line says “saw its state and local tax burden rise from 11.2 percent of personal income to 11.4 percent.” says to me that you didn’t really read the article. Our taxes went up! Simply because we went down in rankings doesn’t mean that the average residents of our state have been taxed more since Tim Pawlenty was elected.
But that isn’t much of a talking point is it?

[...] Unlike some blogs which will find any reason to pump their party while using some pretty absurd logic to try and attack the other party, it’s important that we address the best and worst of what we all have to offer. [...]

Holding the line on spending is always good fiscal responsibility Sean. The drop to 21st most taxed is an amazing accomplishment… I think we were in the top 10 most taxed category just a few years ago.
Pawlenty has been extraordinarily successful at holding the line on gov’t growth and demanding accountability. State services are better than they’ve ever been, and more efficient — no matter what the union slobs and the DFLiars have to say about it.

Yep, taxes went up and little accomplished. Classroom sizes are bigger, health care costs more. The housing market is inflated. At some point the piper must be paid. Oh wait, CEO salaries are still rising at record rates. I’m sure it will be on the backs of the bottom 80% though.

Shit Mark, the bottom 80 percent have never carried their weight. You’re full of shit.
This is the most accomplished Minnesota governor in decades. His record is iron clad.

You should say thanks to the Governor our standard of living has went down. It’s easy talk and do nothing, why celebrate that?
The Governor’s economic plan is failing, his education reforms are dated and failing and his Lt. Governor who heads MnDOT has been a complete failure. It seems his entire administration has been about seeking to be below average in just about everything.

Manny, drinking too much DFL Kool-Aid… what the hell are you talking about.
The facts are diametrically opposed to everything you just wrote. Quality of life is better, economic plan is exceeding all goals and expectations, education reforms are improving results, transportation is recieving needed attention.
Do you even live in this state? You have to be completely retarded to make the unsubstantiated claims you just did.

“Minnesota’s unemployment rate in May rose above the national rate for the first time on record, going back to 1976, according to the monthly report Tuesday by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.”
“For the fourth year in a row, the state missed its target for the number of roads it wants in “good” condition, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s annual survey of highway smoothness.”
“When the program began, Gov. Pawlenty called it the most significant rural economic development initiative in state history. There were about 130 JOBZ projects in 2004, the program’s first year. Last year’s participation was roughly half that, 67 projects.” MPR 4/12

National unemployment also is near all time lows Manny. The Bush economy is a one of the strongest ever, in spite of the condition Clinton left it in.
For the fourth year in a row, the state HAD a target for the number of roads it wants in “good” condition. Facts are, Pawlenty is driving positive change.
And JOBZ is an excellent program that is serving the state incredibly well. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that fewer programs started up after the first year. DFL tried to kill it. They try to kill anything that works.

It’s hard the face the facts isn’t it Kyle. Pawlenty has no vision, beyond his own political aspirations.

Wow Manny that was some hard hitting factual evidence you present there.
Might be safe to say Manny will not approve of anything Gov Pawlenty does. Fact remains he is turning out to be a great leader and gets to say he is the one to get us out from under the 10 highest taxed states. All this indicates to me the DFL may be in some very big trouble in 2008 for local races.
Seems the majority of Minnesotan’s like holding taxes down and know they get zero benefit from many of the programs the DFL wants funded. Seem the people of MN can see through the DFL’s new clothes.
Should the state start to change from DFL to Republican you can bet Minnepolis and ST. Paul will be in big trouble if they have to explain again why they cannot make it on their own and need the suburbs to bail them out year after year. With many of the large suburb cities popping up there will be less and less need for people to even go downtown at all. This will be a blow to the DFL as we move forward. Maybe they will need to convert the new library to a jail the way that city is going. That or a bunker for the people left downtown who need a safe place for shelter.
No need to go to a store you can eat from the rooftop gardens.
