    MB,

Eric Black (formerly of the Strib) was on with Captain Ed and Mitch just before your shift.

Did you happen to catch them? Was Black sitting on their laps and were Ed and Mitch nibbling on this ear? Did you happen to see Black, Ed and Mitch smoking cigarettes after their show?

I ask that because I never heard such a love-in in all my life. Three guys having sex on the radio! Call the FCC!

That’s why I suspect (and I’m asking) about whether they were smoking cigarettes “after the loving.”

Seriously, given all the examples of Strib media bias, particularly by Black, over the years, they might have broached that subject.

[Clinton on] I did not have sex with that reporter [/Clinton off]. No, indeed, like Dean Barkley himself, I prefer 30-something Latina females.

Mr. Bauer, the interview wasn’t *about* his time at the Strib. But you’re wrong anyway; I DID ask him about the most egregious example of bias I can recall, Rochelle Olson’s hit piece on Alan Fine last fall, a story in which Black had a role. Pressed him pretty hard and spent the better part of a segment on it, actually.

If you’re looking for the reincarnation of Morton Downey Junior, I ain’t it. But I pushed Black on that, as well as on his view of what “fairness” is supposed to be.

Which, given the changes that have just begun in the media, is a whole lot more interesting than yelling “Bias! Bias!”, true as that may or may not be.

    Mitch,

I confess that I must have missed your exchange with Black about the Fine piece. Having eaten within the last 24-hours, I got sick of what I heard was the MPR-like treatment of Black and had to turn off the radio. In the great minds think alike category, I also called in to ask about that same subject, among others, but all I got was the Patriot recording and crappy background music.

BTW I would have left those comments on your blog, but the comments thingie kept turning me aside. I don’t think that there’s a conspiracy to keep me off (inasmuch as I am not Eva Young), but a computer glitch on your end or mine kept me from doing so. Hence, my comments had to end up here.

Oh, and Mitch, if you’re still out there, why no mention of a recent Exhibit A of media bias in the Strib. Namely, the contrasting articles in the Strib and PP about Senator Metzen’s hearing. The PP quoted a Mothers Against Drunk Driving rep who criticized Metzen’s sentence as overly light. The Strib did not, even though the MAD lady was there in the courtroom and somehow the PP reporter found here. Moreover, if a GOP state senator had been in court instead of Metzen, the Strib would have led with the MAD lady’s comments. You know this to be true.

Black may not have had anything to do with that story. But Black was part of that newsroom and Black should be called to answer why the Strib piece did not mention the MAD lady. We certainly would end up learning about Black’s mentality if these questions could reach him.

Sadly, you let the opportunity pass on Saturday.

Yeah, I could have spent hours and hours interrogating him about every single instance of bias we’ve all uncovered over the years. And there’ve been hundreds of them. And you know what he’d have said? “You’re right”. He basically copped to the fact that bias exists, and that the traditional model of journalism merely tries to paper it over with a thin veneer of “objectivity”, and he currently disagrees with that approach. So we agreed!

But we weren’t there, in a bigger sense, to talk Strib bias. And why should we – it’s not like there’s a rational argument against the premise!

Then perhaps I was listening to a NARN broadcast in a parallel universe. If so, I apologize.

What I did hear is Black disclaim any bias in the Strib and the MSM by extension. Sickened and outraged, I pulled my car over to listen for the number to phone in. Some time passed (with the radio still on) as did Haley’s Comet. Finally, you gave the number and went to commercial. I called in, but all I got was the Salem Broadcasting Network’s recorded message that one would get if they decided to call at 3 a.m. Like any discerning listener, I voted with my feet and turned the station off at that point.

One favor to ask: If in the future you have a member of the MSM on the show and decide to give your listeners a warmed-over version of Don Shelby interviewing Erik Eskala (sp), please give us advance warning.
