MN GOP: AL FRANKEN (D-BIG ENTERTAINMENT)
By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 20, 2007
The Republican Party of Minnesota released a new research briefing on Al Franken called "Al Franken (D-Big Entertainment) Franken’s Hollywood Friends Flood Minnesota With Big Money."
###
Franken & Big Entertainment: A Love Story
Roll Call: Franken Has Raised "High-Dollar Contributions" From "Scads" Of "Celebrities." "Al Franken won Ben Stein’s money — and high-dollar contributions from scads of other celebrities in his bid for Minnesota’s Democratic Senate nomination, according to Federal Election Commission reports." (Nicole Duran, “Franken’s Pals Dig Deep for Senate Campaign,” Roll Call, June 20, 2007)
Franken Coffers Filled With Celebrity Cash. "Almost 40 other celebrities from 'Xena, Warrior Princess' star Lucy Lawless to Larry Hagman — Major Nelson on 'I Dream of Jeannie' and J.R. Ewing on 'Dallas' stoked Franken’s campaign war chest. Lawless gave Franken $2,000 and Hagman chipped in $500." (Nicole Duran, "Franken’s Pals Dig Deep for Senate Campaign," Roll Call, June 20, 2007)
Franken Claims "Midwest Values"; Franken PAC Funded By Super Rich Hollywood Liberal Elites. "The list of contributors to comedian Al Franken's political action committee reads like a celebrity who's who: singer Barbra Streisand, writer-director Nora Ephron, actor-writer Larry David and actor Jimmy Smits. … His leadership PAC, Midwest Values PAC, raised $500,000, according to a review of campaign finance reports. … Among the contributors to the PAC were actor Larry Hagman, directors Christopher Guest and Barry Levinson, and writers Harold Ramis and Aaron Sorkin. 'CurbYour Enthusiasm’ star Larry David said he couldn't refuse Franken." (Frederic J. Frommer, "Al Franken Getting Celebrity Support," The Associated Press, July 28, 2006)
Franken Is Out Of Touch
Franken Flashback: "My Life Is Here" In New York City. "Q: Do you ever see yourself moving back here (Minnesota)? Franken: "I visit family a lot, but no, I think I'm in New York pretty much permanently. My life is here, my kids grew up as New Yorkers." (Neal Karlen, "Why Not Al?" Minnesota Monthly, November 1998)
Franken Could Name Only One House Member From Minnesota In 2004. "Franken has always had an interest in politics. He lists his political heroes as Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, Walter Mondale and Wellstone. But he could name only one House member from Minnesota: Democrat Martin Sabo." (Rob Hotakainen, "Capitol Hill Comic? Franken May Run For Senate In 2008,” Sacramento Bee, June 3, 2004)
Franken Now Campaigns As Champion Of Middle Class But Has Acknowledged Being Out Of Step With The Public. "Once comics make it big and get their own TV show, the jokes stop resonating with the mass public. Al Franken, a former Saturday Night Live writer and performer who now stars in his own sitcom, Lateline, admits as much. 'My complaints wouldn't get a lot of sympathy,' he says. ‘You know, the driver wasn't there right away. The travel agency paying to fly me first class failed to book my (frequent-flier) miles. I frequent the New York-L.A. American Airlines thing and I'm getting tired of the same caviar, lobster tail, chateau briand when I travel outbound. I don't think my complaints will win a lot of friends.'" (Michael Diamond, "Something To Laugh About –Trips From Hell Are Manna From Heaven For Comedians," USA Today, September 22, 1998)

Did Ben Stein really give this clown money? I thought he was a Republican?
June 20th, 2007 at 12:18 PM
He gave him money.

“D-Big Entertainment” is exactly what Al deserves.

I think the last paragraph was a joke.
I also think you goes are blowing the celebrity donation thing quite a bit out of shape. Al gets a lot of the donations from regular Minnesotans, I bet like 1% come from celebrities, if even that. Lets say he had, I dunno, 50 celebrities donate 2,300 in the first quarter, Franken brought in 1.3 million, that equals about 8% of his total donations. But then as we’ve seen from the list above, not all the celebrities donated 2,300 and I imagine 50 is higher than it really is.
After looking at tray.com and comparing Norm Coleman and Al Franken, out of Norm’s 1.5 million raised, nearly 1/3 of that is from PACs. As for Al Franken, out of his 1.3 millions, 18,000 came from PACs.
Id take the candidate who raises money from actual individuals over PACs

Andrew what you mean to say is you would pick a democRat canidate over a Republican canidate.
Franken is a weak canidate and you know this and dislike it greatly.
Will be fun to watch Franken lose and Andrew cry like a baby.

Oh Andrew…its so easy to get the FACTS and not ASSUME anything. I know how FACTS are hard for Democrats to undertand.
Go out to the FEC website and look at the 799 contributors. Of the $914,762 that came from the fat-cats, almost 80% came from OUTSIDE Minnesota. You remember Minnesota, don’t you Andrew? That’s the place Angry Al has NOT called home in over 20 years…at least not until he donned his carpet bag and came “home”.
So, of the money that can be traced, $720,537 came from his Hollywood Elites and NY Fat-cats. That’s over HALF of his $1.3 million for 1st quarter…assuming you credit ALL the other small contributions to Minnesotans.
This Al Franken is brought to you by the Hollywood Elite. Bought and Paid for by Babs Streisand and the rest of the liberals on the West Coast.

And Andrew…never worry, have no fear…the PACs will fund Fathead Al. Just give them some time. Movon and Emily’s list will pony up.

Andrew man do you not ever get sick of being absolutly slammed on every argument you try to present?
You are like one of those guys who gets rejected by all the girls, will never really have a chance, but keep trying anyhow. I will give it to you that you do not let a little thing like facts ever influce your opion.

He gave him money.
I’m so disillusioned.
June 20th, 2007 at 6:35 PM
Hold on here, just a second. When it comes to taxes, these liberal ass clowns make the argument that the top 10 percent — who pay 40 percent of the total tax burden, but who (some argue, not very effectively) pay a half a percent less of there total income to taxes — don’t pay their fair share… The argue (not very convincingly) that the pay disproportionately less of their income.
Now, Andrew, a certified ass clown, makes the argument that Al, who makes more than half of his contributions from out of state is getting enough in-state support because of there are a lot of individuals blowing $5 each.
Is there any doubt remaining why these jackasses should be restrained from having any impact on our economy?
June 20th, 2007 at 6:36 PM
To be clear… the top 10 percent are paying far more than their fair share. And Al Franken depends almost exclusively on Hollywood extremists to fund his lame ass campaign.
June 21st, 2007 at 8:44 AM
Oh…come on Chestnut and Kahuna.
If the rich are as flithy as liberals want us to think…that they don’t pay “their fair share”…at least we can allow this fat-cats to buy themselves as many politicians as their money can buy. Right?
It isn’t FAIR that the Hollywood whackos only get Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. They need MORE. They need MORE liberals in the Senate to make sure we tax everyone to death, promote gay marriage, kill babies…etc…etc…etc.
Angry Al’s their ticket. And they are Al’s meal ticket.
June 21st, 2007 at 10:15 AM
Well first of all you guys are screwed since AL picked up JR!
As far as “Hollywood Whackos” why don’t you put your money where your mouth is? How did these folks get rich… you went to their movies and watched their TV shows. If people didn’t like these “whackos” why don’t they stop going to their movies?

Dear Manny:
I don’t.
Thanks.

[...] I'm getting ready for the next round of FEC reports to be released in the few weeks. Al Franken (D-Big Entertainment) raised $1.3 million during the last reporting period. His campaign's spin was focused on the fact thatFranken only fundraised during half of the reporting period. Therefore, if Franken raised $1.3 million in 45 days, his benchmark for the next full reporting period of 90 days should be close to $2.6 million. [...]
