RECAP ON SATURDAY’S RADIO SHOW; LIBERAL BLOGOSPHERE ATTACKS COLLEGE STUDENT #2

By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 25, 2007

This post is a follow-up from a post from earlier today. The application process for the new student representative to the Board of Trustees for MnSCU has gotten nasty due to the vicious attacks from the liberal blogosphere on one of the candidates, Luke Hellier.

Hellier and another candidate for the MnSCU, Adam Weigold, were on Saturday's show to talk about the application process and the attacks from the liberal blogosphere.

I invited Hal Kimball to be a guest on Saturday's radio show, after reading his post about Luke Hellier.  Hal was out of town and unable to be a guest on the program.  I said on the air during Saturday's show that Hal may be out of town and that I wasn't making an issue out of the fact I hadn't heard back from him.

My invite to Hal was sincere and I would have been respectful and listened to Hal's position on Hellier's application. While I did extended the invite to Hal to appear last Saturday's program, I won't be making that mistake again.  One way to make sure you don't get a second invite is by making fun of AM 1280.

As I previously wrote, I'm not getting involved with promoting or endorsing any candidate on my blog or on my radio show. The responsibility for picking a new student representative to the Board of Trustees for MnSCU lies with solely with Governor Pawlenty. I'm sure Governor Pawlenty will picked the most qualified candidate.

One thing I don't endorse is the misleading, dishonest, and downright nasty attacks Hellier has faced in the liberal blogosphere.

I've asked Hal and Jeff Fecke to provide a source for information reported on Minnesota Monitor that Hellier is "reportedly favored for consideration by Gov. Tim Pawlenty"? Neither could provide a source.

Governor Pawlenty hasn't announced his decision yet and I haven't been able to find a direct or indirect quote where Governor Pawlenty said Hellier is his favored pick. Are they making this up? I just don't know.

Fecke raised the ante by leaving this comment on my blog:

"Incidentally, Hal Kimball reported that Hellier has been recruited by 'somebody within Pawlenty’s office,' which tends to argue he’s being recruited by Pawlenty."

Please note that Fecke put the phrase "somebody within Pawlenty's office" in quotes meaning it is a direct quote, yet I haven't been able to find that exact phrase on Kimball's blog.

But the point Fecke is making is that according to Kimball, Hellier was recruited by Pawlenty.  Hellier was recruited by Pawlenty? The Governor of Minnesota recruited Luke Hellier to apply for the MnSCU Board of Trustees?  Are you kidding me?

Do these bloggers have any source that can back up this statement? Anyone?

What is most amazing in this situation is that Kimball nor Fecke requested an interview with Hellier.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Neither Kimball or Fecke requested an interview with Hellier to verify their information before it was published.  One would think a "reporter" like Fecke would request an interview with the subject of his post.

While Kimball was unavailable to come on the show last Saturday, at least King and I requested an interview. These bloggers write post after post attacking Hellier, but they don't even request an interview from Hellier.  Hellier would be a fool to grant an interview now.

Nobody cares, your show was crap Saturday because you wasted the entire show talking about things that don’t matter.

    Mike Grimes:

I read your blog. From what I read there, you should be a great judge of “what doesn’t matter”. Sadly, you are not.

Fecke’s just another intellectually lazy Democrat. A digital brown shirt for the neo-racist liberal party.

Grimes you have your head so far up the independant party’s ass you could not tell me if you are on foot or horseback.

Go back to laying by your dish.

Wow so what your saying is I’m a partisan blogger? What a concept. (independence party by the way, raelly it’s not that complicated) we don’t call the other parties Republic and Democracy parties) What a concept. Do you think maybe there might be a few folks out there that might be a little curiuse about what the Independence party is upto?

Lets cut the BS we all do the same crap. As for not mattering I think Mike Bloomberg’s entrance into the presidential race will matter especially in light of the fact the media wants to give him a free ride. Bloombergs entrance into the race is going to give the Republican’s the oppurtunity to endorse a true Republican rather then a safe pick in Rudy Guliani. The Democrat and Republican parties sometimes need an Independence candidate of merit to actually be loyal to those they represent. And hey no matter how much you like looking the other way sometimes Independence candidates win.

By the way why don’t we ever see Keith Ellison post around here these days. I know covering college kids that aren’t treated greatly by bloggers can be time consuming but I would think maybe some dirt could be dug up on the least qualified Congress member from Minnesota, afteall he actually is a Democrat, come on he must have a myspace profile or something.

An “independent” partisan blogger… actually, that is a quite a concept… given “independents” (read: liberals) are supposed to be non-partisan, fence-sitter, can’t make up their mind types.

I’m not an independent partisan blogger, I’m an Independence partisan blogger since the Independence party is in fact a political party it needs to be partisan. You define libral how you want I just have to ask why Republicans can’t seem to stop spending my money, Of course I’m for gay marraige so hell yeah I’m a liberal.

I’ll admitt the Independence party is a tad to the left of me but that changes from candidate to candidate.
