RECAP ON SATURDAY’S RADIO SHOW; LIBERAL BLOGOSPHERE ATTACKS COLLEGE STUDENT

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 25, 2007

Saturday's radio show was one of my all-time favorites as King and I were both fired up for different reasons. The application process for the new student representative to the Board of Trustees for MnSCU has gotten nasty due to the vicious attacks from the liberal blogosphere on one of the candidates, Luke Hellier.

Hellier and another candidate for the MnSCU, Adam Weigold, were on Saturday's show to talk about the application process and the attacks from the liberal blogosphere.

I'm not getting involved with promoting or endorsing any candidate on my blog or on my radio show. The responsibility for picking a new student representative to the Board of Trustees for MnSCU lies with solely with Governor Pawlenty. I'm sure Governor Pawlenty will picked the most qualified candidate.

One thing I don't endorse is the misleading, dishonest, and downright nasty attacks Hellier has faced in the liberal blogosphere.

    For example:

"A controversy regarding the appointment of a new student representative to the Board of Trustees for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is resulting in strong criticism of a candidate reportedly favored for consideration by Gov. Tim Pawlenty." Source: Minnesota Monitor, June 22, 2007

Reported by who?  Who is reporting that Hellier is favored? Governor Pawlenty hasn't announced his decision yet and I haven't been able to find a direct or indirect quote where Governor Pawlenty said Hellier is his favored pick.

I'll repeat my question: Reported by who? Who is reporting that Hellier is the favorite as Minnesota Monitor reported.

Is this just another rambling by one of the most inaccurate and sloppy bloggers in Minnesota, Jeff Fecke?

Another line of attack from the liberal blogosphere is that Hellier has never attended a MnSCU school.  Hellier graduated from St. John's University, was active in student government and is enrolled at Minnesota State University in Mankato, a MnSCU school.

Attending a MnSCU school is not a requirement to be on the Board of Trustees, in fact, numerous members of the current MnSCU Board of Trustees have never attended a MnSCU school.

The liberal blogosphere is attacking Luke Hellier because he is a Republican/conservative and they don't want him appointed to the MnSCU Board of Trustees. It's just that simple.

UPDATE: King has a great post up about Saturday's show.

They don’t call him “Feckless Jeff” for nothing.

Ironic, Mike, that this is the second time you’ve misrepresented the issues here.

You’re not stupid, so I assume you’re deliberately eliding the point that everyone is quite fine with Weigold being appointed…despite the fact that he’s a conservative.

Incidentally, Hal Kimball reported that Hellier has been recruited by “somebody within Pawlenty’s office,” which tends to argue he’s being recruited by Pawlenty. But I’m sloppy and inaccurate, so what do I know?

Just to be clear, your source then for the statement that Hellier is “reportedly favored for consideration by Gov. Tim Pawlenty” is Hal Kimball?

    4. Jeff Fecke Says:
      June 25th, 2007 at 11:45 am

      Did I say that? No.

I don’t clarify things to someone so afraid of me that he has to resort to schoolyard taunts.

I’m afraid of you? Jeff, don’t flatter yourself. I do think you are a sloppy and inaccurate blogger. You have a trouble with facts and your posts reflect this problem.

If you have a source for the statement that Hellier is “reportedly favored for consideration by Gov. Tim Pawlenty” please let me know or post it here.

So, just to be clear, Fecke-hack:

Your source for this is Kimball, who heard this from an anonymous source? How did you confirm this? With tea leaves or a crystal ball?

You’re the “reporter” Jeffy. Or at least…you THINK you are.

Listeners to the show — delayed in posting because of a computer snafu, due up tomorrow — would hear that Luke said he discussed the position first with outgoing trustee Michael Boulton. In my notes from the show, I wrote that he had applied via the Secretary of State’s office, which means he filled out the Open Appointments paperwork provided by Minnesota law. This contradicts Kimball’s statement of how Luke came to apply for the position.

Sloppy and inaccurate is what Jeff Fecke does. It stems from your general laziness and carelessness Jeff.

But, you know… liberals won’t let much stand in the way of them and their oppressive agenda.

Jeff Fecke, digital brown shirt of the neo-socialist party.

“Attending a MnSCU school is not a requirement to be on the Board of Trustees, in fact”

As far as the student positions go, which is what I thought we were talking about, you are completely incorrect. Taken from your friend King’s blog:

“Three members must be students who are enrolled at least half time in a degree, diploma, or certificate program or have graduated from an institution governed by the board within one year of the date of appointment.”

You can’t consider the student positions and the other 12 to be the same. Your comments about Dean Johnson clearly show you are grasping at straws. I can’t speak for other “lefty bloggers,” but if Dean Johnson decided to enroll part time in grad school out of no where and apply for the student position I would be upset about it as well.

DJ, are you saying Luke’s enrollment in the Mankato program is simply to get on the Board and not a sincere attempt to further his education? On what basis do you make this claim?

    16. DJ Danielson Says:
      June 25th, 2007 at 10:57 pm

I’m not, and to which claim are you referring?

The claims I made were the following:

-Attending a MnSCU school is a requirement to serve as a student trustee on the board, the contrary to which Michael repeatedly said was true.
-Essentially, Michael was comparing apples to oranges by comparing the “Dean Johnson to the UM Board of Regents” situation to the MnSCU Board of Trustees four-year university student appointment process.
-That I would be pissed if Dean Johnson signed up for graduate classes and wanted the four-year university student appointment to the board of trustees after being I was involved in MSUSA and the process of endorsing candidates for the position.
