FRANKEN CAMPAIGN CLAIMS FRANKEN “TAKES THE ISSUE OF DRUG USE SERIOUSLY”, YET FRANKEN MOCKED LIMBAUGH’S BATTLE WITH CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY

By Michael Brodkorb | June 28, 2007

This statement from Al Franken's communications director needs a closer examination:

"Andy Barr, communications director for Franken's Senate campaign, declined to comment Wednesday on Franken's alleged use, saying Franken takes the issue of drug use seriously." Source: Star Tribune, June 27, 2007

Franken "takes the issue of drug use seriously"?  Come on Andy, who are you kidding?

In 1999, Franken interviewed then Governor Bush and asked him this outrageous question:

"Since we're in Iowa, I have to ask you, Have you ever made crystal meth in a bathtub?" Source: George, October 1999

Franken mocked Rush Limbaugh's battle with chemical dependency:

"He [Franken] says Republicans are 'stealing God,' adding that the Bible is filled with references to helping the poor. If you cut out all those references, he says, 'you'd have the perfect box to smuggle Rush Limbaugh's drugs in.'" Source: McClatchy News Service, September 20, 2006

I'm sorry – I just don't believe that a former user of cocaine, LSD, and marijuana and who also mocked another person's battle with chemical dependency can be called someone who "takes the issue of drug use seriously."

Here comes Michael, The Morality Police, Brodkorb commenting on Franken’s drug use, but not Coleman’s. Seriously, if you have something worth posting than by all means go ahead but you have a very strange obsession with Al.

I recall when Al Franken was on Air America with Katherine Lamphier he boasted about “frug free radio”. Katherine Lamphier got a DUI here in Minnesota before moving to Air America.

Another interesting detail was that the DUI was kept out of our local media for several weeks.

It was a slip up. He meant “Al seriously takes a lot of drugs.”

The difference, Mark — you petulant ass — is that Coleman’s drug use is long behind him. Franken’s on the other hand, spanned decades, and included use of some of the most illicit and dangerous drugs… probably to present… and he mocks others with addiction issues, and pretends that drug use is no big deal.

    Al’s an asshole.

Ah, Chestnut – nothing warms my heart more than you shooting a liberal down.

I tip my hat to you!

Wait, I though Rush didn’t have any issues, it was all a big liberal media set-up. I believe the hypocrisy of it all was what he was mocking, not Rush’s addiction.

Michael, I’m just curious what you’re going to do when Ron Carey and his cronies are done using you?

Unless they are Republican, where the standards are different.

I would guess that Rush’s own statements acknowledging his addiction to painkillers, and his subsequent voluntary check-in to a rehabilitation center would render Mark’s comment incorrect.

In fact, nobody ever Rush’s problem was a big liberal set-up… with the exception of the fact that an out-of-control LIBERAL DA violated Rush’s Constitutional rights by illegally seizing his medical records.

Neither Al nor Norm have the “moral highground” when it comes to drugs so give it a break. MDE this is truly a silly post.

[...] This statement from Al Franken's communications director about Franken taking the "issue of drug use seriously" is becoming less and less believable: "He sprinkled the program with humor and took persistent shots at conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh and columnist Ann Coulter, with repeated references to Limbaugh's bout with drug addiction and a recurring bit that had an angry and profane Coulter locked in a studio waiting room." BK: You stole a liberal line regarding the echo chamber posted on another subject within this blog site! That makes you part liberal now – that can also happen when you live in blue state like MN.
