“SCOFFLAW” ELLISON SIGNS ON TO CHENEY IMPEACHMENT BILL

By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 1, 2007

"Rick Jauert, a spokesman for Ellison, said the congressman 'has no illusions that this is going anywhere and that's fine. We've got more important things to do that affect people's daily lives.'

Jauert said Ellison joined the impeachment effort largely to send a message.

'He basically signed on out of principle, as an expression of the importance of the rule of law — that nobody is above the law, not even the vice president.'" Source: Star Tribune, June 31, 2007

I get a kick out of this line from Ellison's spokesman "…nobody is above the law, not even the vice president."  What about Ellison the "scofflaw"? Is he above the law?

UPDATE: Does anyone else find the irony in a congressman with 55 moving violations signing on to the Cheney impeachment movement because (according to spokesman) "nobody is above the law?"

Ha! Is it a surprise that Brodkorb comes to the defense Dick Cheney?

Dick Cheney’s done nothing wrong. Ellison is a fucking crook.

Ellison, the con man, has flaunted the law for years. He has paid fines (late, of course) and admitted to breaking numerous laws (no matter how explained them, he had to admit violations when he paid his fines and fees).

Cheney has not been charge or convicted of anything. In fact, you can’t come up with anything that he’s done that would be impeachable. You may not like his policies or positions, but he’s nothing like your clown from Minneapolis.

Eillison is not only a crook, but a conniving con man.

What are Republicans going to do to make sure Ellison is not reelected?

5. kathy Says:

The only things the GOP can use as a smear tactic to take the 5th CD in 2008 is to PROVE for a fact that Kieth Ellison is a TERRORIST imself and a TRAITOR to this country.

That ain’t going to happen!!

The 5th CD from what I have read is very much in favor of Ellison and will support him heavily next year.

6. Master of None Says:

is to PROVE for a fact that Kieth Ellison is a TERRORIST imself and a TRAITOR to this country.

Are you kidding? That would only improve his percentages in the 5th.

The people of Minneapolis are stupid like every other inner city population (color doesn’t matter, they are overwhelmingly all stupid). There could be live OJ-like coverage of the con man blowing up the IDS with a live interview of him admitting he’s doing it and his popularity would go up. Why? Because he’s got a “DFL” after his name on the ballot and that’s all these moron voters see when they vote.

8. Mike Grimes Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 3:46 PM

Ellison only got 55% last time, Maybe he’ll do better maybe he’ll do worse. Again the question is what are the Republicans going to do to make sure he doesn’t win reelection. Calling the citezens of Minneapolis (which is only about half the CD 5 population and probably significantly less then half of the voting turnout) idiots is pure sillyness. You can find idiot voters anywhere for a variaty of reasons, thats part of politics. If Keith Ellison gets 5% less and only has one opponent his career in the US House is over. Is that candidate that can make it happen Alan Fine? Is it a lifelong Republican?

I think I know the truth. Republicans are going to do everything in their power to make sure Ellison is reelected because they think that will somehow help them elsewhere.

9. Franco Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 3:55 PM

I just think that Michael is still a little sore that his man Kennedy lost in a landslide and that he wasn’t able to bring down the Ellison campaign despite the hard-on he had for the guy for months. Maybe the only way for Brodkorb to stop DFL candidates from winning is if he starts working for their campaigns…

And Chet can carry on with his thinly-veiled racist comments about how Ellison is a terrorist like OJ Simpson and how Chet’s kind is superior to the inferior “inner city” folks. I doubt many of the MDE loyalists even bat an eyelash at that kind of statement. Maybe next he should start talking about residents with a “New York sensibility” and bring Minneapolis back to the golden days of the 50s and 60s…

10. Michael B. Brodkorb Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 4:12 PM

If you review my post from primary night you will see that I thank the DFL for helping Ellison win the primary.

Ellison is a fraud – a complete embarrassment. A “scofflaw” like Ellison signing on to an impeachment movement is laughable.

11. jay Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 4:52 PM

There are only two ways a DFLer does not get re elected in Minneapolis. Time and or handcuffs. Since Congress does not have term limits Hakim will be re elected as long as he wants or until he gets caught taking bribes.

12. Mike Grimes Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 6:40 PM

So what your saying is that you can’t drive an additional 5% of anti Ellison folks to the polls? This ain’t Martin Sabo and this isn’t simply Minneapolis politics. This is the exact attitude that left the Republicans with Alan Fine.

It begs the question, since it is hopeless why do the Republicans even endorse a candidate?

I would expect Ellison to get around 60% in 2008 but if the Republicans actually play it right he might not. Theres still more to Ellison that is being swept under the rug, he might be a nice enough guy, but he is completly unworthy of being my congressman.

13. Chet Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 7:26 PM

And Chet can carry on with his thinly-veiled racist comments about how Ellison is a terrorist like OJ Simpson and how Chet’s kind is superior to the inferior “inner city” folks.

Talk about sillyness. Anything that a democrat doesn’t like is called “racist”.

Worse, this Franco clown is making it up. I never called him a “terrorist”, I called him a con man.

I also said IF the con man were to receive OJ-LIKE coverage – ala the white truck, slow chase – where he did something (again, IF this were to happen, not suggesting anywhere that he ever did or would do this – you moron), the people of Mpls would still vote for him. The truth is, YOU would still vote for him because he’s a liberal and so are you. Liberals don’t care if their candidates obey the law, they only care if they obey liberal philosophy.

Liberals are such liars.

14. Veritas Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 7:26 PM

Ellison could fly a jet into the IDS building and still win in a landslide..oh thee well..the 5CD can have that lying fraud…..the dems are making a shambles of congress..it is hilarious….any wonder why the approval rating of congress is in the touilet?

15. Mike Grimes Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 7:33 PM

Vetitas, if you believe what you said then you have a duty as an American to do something about it. I’m sick of people that put the political game above all else. An islamic with a track record of irresponsible behavior seems to be a chip in the Republicans game rather then a guy that needs to be removed from office.

16. Chet Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 8:52 PM

I’m sick of people that put the political game above all else.

Blah, blah, blah. Nothing but talk. Democrats are the very definition of political game playing. Like I alway say, when a Democrat says something like this it’s almost always because that’s exactly what THEY’RE doing.

17. Mike Grimes Says:
July 1st, 2007 at 9:38 PM

wait why the heck would someone think I’m a Democrat? haven’t I been pretty clear that I think Keith Ellison needs to be defeated in 08? But hey I guess me calling out a guy who thinks the task is to tough despite the fact Ellison only got 55% in 06 makes me a Democrat? It’s really sad how deep into the game people get, rational thought and observation be damned lets get the Democrats, or from the Democrat prespective lets get the Republicans.

It’s not about whats best for the country, it’s about whats best for the party. Politics is the only game where everyone becomes a loser no matter how often they think they win. We all win the day it stops being a game.

18. Chestnut Says:
July 2nd, 2007 at 7:25 AM

Kathy, the mindless trolls in the 5th CD would support Osama bin Laden if he had the DFL endorsement. And, my guess is, he’d have a sympathetic ear there if he ran.

Mike Grimes makes a good point. When will Republicans find and run a decent candidate in the 5th. … It’s on us to beat that turd Ellison… Sure, speaks to the incompetence and stupidity of the DFL to nominate a girl-friend beating, police killer advocate, terrorist supporter. … but it says quite something else that we couldn’t put a legitimate candidate up there to win.

That said, the 5th CD last year was more interested in sending a black muslim to congress than a competent representative as well… … so there you go.

19. Drew Emmer Says:

Had the public truly known the truth about Ellsion before the election they never would have voted for him.

No mainstream media outlet bothered to do in depth research on Ellison’s history of ignoring the law, standing up as an advocate for cop killers, cheating on his wife, and verbal and physical abuse of his mistress.

I’ll dig out Amy Alexander’s article again and post it today on http://www.wrightrepublican.blogspot.com so that you all can reconsider the bona fides of your congressman.

(Please note that Amy is forbidden by court order from commenting on any of this until after Ellison’s 2008 election bid is over.)

“I think I know the truth. Republicans are going to do everything in their power to make sure Ellison is reelected because they think that will somehow help them elsewhere.”….says Mike Grimes

You make a good point there Mike. Already in the 1st CD, there are 4 GOP candidates running against Tim Walz. Goes to show how bad they want the 1st back.

The GOP will paint Walz as “Too Liberal for their District.” “Out of touch with the voters.” “Nothing more than a ‘Pelosi Puppet’.” When in fact Walz is one of the hardest working Reps in Congress, not to mention the most visible and accessible in the District since the election of Tim Penny back in 1982. http://www.bluestemprairie.com/
Anyone can access this site to find out the latest news concerning the 1st CD, where voters can meet with Rep. Walz, get questions to him as well as answers back. Honesty and transparency are traits admirable in a Representative.

As with Kieth Ellison, the GOP can cry foul play all they want. Posters here and elsewhere on blogs can call Ellison every name in the book to their heart’s delight. I say, “Let them!” If anything, this tactic will only cause the GOP in MN to lose even more credibility and assure that more Democrats are elected throughout the state.

There is no question thatthe 2008 Election cycle is going to be a tough one here in Minnesota to turn Minnesota RED. My take is that as people become more educated about the issues and more involved in the political process for the common good of everyone, the results may be completely different from what the GOP are expecting.

22. Drew Emmer Says:
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:35 AM

Why didn’t anyone bother to respond to my suggestion last year that Amy and Keith subject themselves to a polygraph test to figure out who is telling the truth and who is lying about their relationship and the extraordinary steps he took to silence her?

23. Chestnut Says:
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:47 AM

kathy, if anything, once people become more “educated about the issues and more involved in the political process”… the more they will realize what a bunch of lying, socialist assholes run the DFL, what a purse poodle your boy Walz really is, and how damaging liberal policies really are to our economy, culture and way of life.

Last I checked, it’s not in the common good to kill unborn children, surrender to fascism, and abandon our allies. That’s pretty much the Democrat platform in a nutshell.

I don’t harbor any delusions that Minnesota will go Republican in 2008… but it already is a “red” state… with a star and sickle.

24. Chestnut Says:
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:07 AM

… it’s also not “in the common good” to punish innovation and prosperity, to suppress freedom of speech, to propagate racist policies, to hand-cuff individuals to dependence on bureaucracies… again, all foundations of the Democrat platform.

25. Tim Says:
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:12 AM

Chestnut,

I hope you have a position of influence in the GOP.

the “truth” is, drew, the voting public in minneapolis had plenty of opportunity to know who ellison is/was. they didn’t care or didn’t buy it. they got exactly what they wanted and it only speaks to their ignorance whether they knew it or not. i still laugh out loud when i think about it.

27. Turkish Says:

Brodkorb says “I get a kick out of this line from Ellison’s spokesman “…nobody is above the law, not even the vice president.” What about Ellison the “scofflaw”? Is he above the law?”

When Ellison’s fines/penalties are commuted or he is pardoned, then you can start screaming about him being above the law. Until then, why not get a little bent about Libby instead? Apparently the vice president’s aide IS above the law. Bet there are a lot of perjurers (over lesser things) in jail wishing they had friends in high places.

29. Chestnut Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 11:25 AM

Wayne, are you also that stupid? Probably.

Cheney has broken no law. Nor has he done anything wrong. No matter what the tin-foil hat brigade has to say about it, he’s been an upstanding and influential vice president. That’s it.

Ellison is a fucking crook. Also, Libby did nothing wrong. He’s the victim of a far over-zealous prosecutor, who, upon learning the facts of the case and deciding there was no crime committed, continued a sham investigation until he could catch someone with a less than perfect grasp on the details.

Libby did nothing wrong either. I’m going to bet that his entire conviction will the overturned on appeal. Bush did the right thing to keep him out of jail… he’d have been even more right if he pardoned Libby outright.

30. Wayne Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 11:54 AM

That’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it. Everyone is.

31. Wayne Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 11:54 AM

Also, swearing doesn’t actually make you more right.

32. Wayne Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 11:57 AM

One last thing – does this mean you don’t actually believe in the jury system?

33. Chestnut Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 12:56 PM

Those are facts. I’m welcome to those too.

You’re right, the swearing doesn’t make me more right. The facts do. And per the facts, I am absa-fucking-lutely correct.

34. Chestnut Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 12:57 PM

… and it doesn’t mean that at all. It means I don’t believe much out-of-control prosecutors who set off to find a crime knowing they don’t have one to investigate.

35. Wayne Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 1:04 PM

What does it say then about Libby’s attorneys who were unable to point that out to a jury of 12 peers? I’d say it made the prosecuter pretty good if there was absolutely no evidence of a crime and he still got a conviction.

I’m done – go ahead and have the last word – I know your type, you need to have it.

36. OP Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 4:01 PM

I’d say Chestnut has it about right. Wayne, it wouldn’t appear that you don’t know shit.

If Fitgerald manufactured a crime and Libby fell into his trap, I suppose a crime was committed. If I remember facts correctly, however, the Jury was never told that Fitgerald knew Armitage was the leak prior to his questioning Libby.

So, I guess when a renegade prosecutor is successful at hiding relevant information from the jury, the jury will find fault.

Nobody who knows dick about this case, however, actually believes Libby should have been prosecuted. And, he’ll likely be exonerated on appeal.

It wasn’t a crime to reveal Plame’s identity, because she wasn’t a covert agent. The only liars in this ordeal are Joe Wilson and every Democrat who talked about it.

37. Scooter Fibby Says:
July 3rd, 2007 at 8:16 PM

I am not a liar.

I was not found guilty on four felony counts.

And since I know where the bodies are buried, I will never spend a day in jail.
