MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: REPUBLICAN PARTY OF MINNESOTA CALLS ON MINNESOTA DEMOCRATS TO REPUDIATE ELLISON’S EXTREMIST COMMENTS

By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 9, 2007

St. Paul- Republican Party of Minnesota Communications Director Mark Drake today issued the following statement regarding DFL Representative Keith Ellison’s comments in the Star Tribune likening September 11th to the Reichstag fire in Nazi Germany.

"Keith Ellison's despicable comments likening President Bush to Adolf Hitler need to be immediately repudiated by all Democrats in Minnesota.  To compare the democratically elected leader of the United States of America to Hitler is an absolute moral outrage which trivializes the horrors of Nazi Germany."

Only problem is…the Democrats agree with Ellison. They even have a mathematical equation for it:

    Bush = Hitler + Satan

    Not all Democrats.

Ill be there first to say Ellison shouldnt have said that. Sure, I’ve called Bush Hitler jokingly, never really seriously or meant it but for a Congressmen to say it publicly, ridiculous.

Sometimes extreme liberals should keep opinions like this to themselves unless they can give a very detailed explanation comparing and contrasting why someone would say this.

“Sure, I’ve called Bush Hitler jokingly…”

‘Cause trivializing the systematic extermination of over 6 million human beings is so, like, hilarious!

You must be a riot at parties.

“Sometimes extreme liberals should keep opinions like this to themselves unless they can give a very detailed explanation comparing and contrasting why someone would say this.”

Yeah but the reason they have to give a detailed explanation is that BS organizations like the Minnesota GOP are going to publish them out of context and intentionally mislead people about what they meant. The Reichstag fire analogy was used because Ellison believes that the Bush administration used September 11th to attempt to stifle disagreeable political opinions. And he DID explain it when he was talking. What you’re suggesting is tantamount to saying, “You should never say anything in case someone decides to lie about what you said later,” as the GOP press release does here. Comparing Bush to Hitler? Please.

Ellison + CAIR + Radical muslims = Trouble for America

  6. Surly Says:

“The Reichstag fire analogy was used because Ellison believes that the Bush administration used September 11th to attempt to stifle disagreeable political opinions.”

A democratically elected member of the majority party openly made this speach at a public forum. Political opinion was stifled exactly…how?

    analogy – noun

    1. a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based: the analogy between the heart and a pump.
    2. similarity or comparability: I see no analogy between your problem and mine.
    3. Logic. a form of reasoning in which one thing is inferred to be similar to another thing in a certain respect, on the basis of the known similarity between the things in other respects.

Please explain who Bush’s counterpart in the “Reichstag fire analogy” (your words). You know, the one he’s being compared to?

  7. Todd Says:

Hitler was pure evil, but if I recall correctly wasn’t he democratically elected at first?

  8. Surly Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 1:10 PM

“Hitler was pure evil, but if I recall correctly wasn’t he democratically elected at first?”

You’re right Todd. He was also short and had straight, dark hair.

You add it all up, and…

    DENNIS KUCINICH IS HITLER!!!!

  9. Dave of the VRWC Says:

Hitler was a vegetarian artist who loved dogs. Sounds like Uptown residents to me.

    Everyone in Uptown are Hitlers!!

“Yeah but the reason they have to give a detailed explanation is that BS organizations like the Minnesota GOP are going to publish them out of context and intentionally mislead people about what they meant.”

Uh – dipshit – the Star Tribune (leftist rag) published them…. And it must’ve been one hell of a context. Fact is, they published what he said and communicated clearly what he meant. There’s no distorting that Keith Ellison is an irresponsible extremist.

The context is even more interesting…. he said it to a bunch of atheists and socialists. A friendly audience for Hakim X Bin Ellison.

  11. Johnny Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 1:56 PM

Surly – political opposition was stifled after September 11th. Anyone who disagreed with the War in Iraq was labeled unpatriotic. Those who opposed Hitler were labeled the same. Clearly the Bush Administration did not go to the same lengths as Hitler’s Administration (in killing Jews or killing their political opponents) and no one has ever claimed this (especially not Congressman Ellison). However the same tactics were used. I just really don’t see how anyone can deny this.

So, hopefully you can see that Ellison wasn’t comparing Bush to Hitler either personally or in their end result, he was saying their tactics of obtaining power were similar. That is the analogy and anyone who disagrees with me is clearly a Nazi.

  12. Chestnut Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 2:28 PM

Adolf Hitler participated in anti-semitic rallies and organizations. Keith Ellison participated in anti-semitic rallies and organizations.

  13. Down the Hatch Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 2:45 PM

It is nice to see that Ellison cannot help himself when it comes to diarrhea of the mouth. The smart play would be to keep his mouth shut for two years and then control the district for as long as he (or redistricting) wants.

With the district make up the way it is, it may not be reasonable to expect a Republican to defeat Ellison, but I am sure that many moderate Democrats (which is just about all of them) are cringing when they hear Ellison spout off like this and are considering other alternatives in their party.

I say leave him in office (and vote for Cindy Shehan too) because it makes the GOP look better and better to the moderated middle.

  14. Lassie Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 3:21 PM

    Ellison’s story = Mein Dummkopf

  15. Dave of the VRWC Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 4:24 PM

Kind of overshadowed by the Hitler comparison is the fact that Mpls’ Congressman spoke to a group of atheists and made a cut on Christian organizations and their chartible work.

  16. Drew Emmer Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 4:32 PM

What would the result be if this irresponsible blatantly stupid comment came out of the mouth of a republican? What is it about Ellison that gives him a free pass on all scrutiny?

It’s the same legitimate question we all asked last fall in light of a laundry list of questionable legal and moral behavior by Ellison.

Why is Keith Ellison being protected by the mainstream media? Why won’t a responsible journalist vet the facts about his behavior and his philosophy? Why is he above reproach?

  17. Drew Emmer Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 4:34 PM

Do Stan and Sylvia Kaplan still endorse Keith Ellison?

Is Walter Mondale still standing up for this nincompoop?

There are two easy phone calls to make for any journalists that want to try something novel.

  18. Surly Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 6:54 PM

    Let’s count the contradictions:

“Anyone who disagreed with the War in Iraq was labeled unpatriotic. Those who opposed Hitler were labeled the same.

[War protestors treated the same as Nazi victims. Bush = Hitler]

Clearly the Bush Administration did not go to the same lengths as Hitler’s Administration (in killing Jews or killing their political opponents) and no one has ever claimed this (especially not Congressman Ellison).

[Getting flipped off by motorists while caterwauling on the Lake St bridge not quite the Night of the Long Knives. Bush not equal to Hitler.]

However the same tactics were used.

[Oops, spoke too soon. Bush back to being Hitler.]

I just really don’t see how anyone can deny this.

[Certainly not Johnny or Congressman Ellison.]

So, hopefully you can see that Ellison wasn’t comparing Bush to Hitler either personally or in their end result, he was saying their tactics of obtaining power were similar.

[Just because he compared them, that doesn't mean he compared them.]

  19. Chris Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 7:48 PM

The far left in this country is sick and dangerous. People have got to wake up or they will be in power and running our country into the ground. I still maintain that 2008 will be like 1972 when Democrats nominated a radical, anti-war, anti-traditionalist for their nominee. But with idiot Republicans running and hiding under their desk (that includes Voinovich, Dominici, Lugar, Warner, Snowe, Gregg, Hagel and others), it’s going to be pretty tough.

  20. Chestnut Says:
    July 9th, 2007 at 9:00 PM

““Anyone who disagreed with the War in Iraq was labeled unpatriotic.”

Fact is, it’s the Democrats who leveled the charge that someone had questioned their patriotism, even though nobody had.

What was questioned, was their judgment… particularly, their judgment to undermine the war effort… their judgment to encourage and aid our enemies… their judgment to put our soldiers in harms way and then subvert their ability to do the job… and their judgment that America is the problem, not radical Islam…

So if questioning those judgments equals questioning Democrats patriotism… o.k., that seems pretty well justified. Democrats are anti-American crooks.

I relish ironic contrast of Franken and Ellison on the same platform with each other in the strongest DFL wards in this state. If Al endorses the 5th District congressman or campaigns with him, he will have some ‘splaining to do. At least to his rabbi. Scott Johnson still has it right on Ellison. http://powerlineblog.com/archives/018184.php

  22. Chestnut Says:

Al Franken is Jewish about as much as I am German.

Sure, my grandparents are from there. But nobody in my family wears liederhosen or eats spatzel.

  23. Displaced Southerner Says:
    July 10th, 2007 at 10:41 PM

As a spokesman for the Islamic-left, Ellison has certain taking points to stick to.

Keith’s handlers in Syria and Iran want him to trivialize the deaths of millions of Jews. Luckily, he is MORE than happy to spout their propaganda.

Hamas and Hezbollah are lucky to have such a dedicated representative in Washington.
