SHOCKING: ELLSION COMPARES 9/11 TO BURNING OF REICHSTAG BUILDING

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 9, 2007

"On comparing Sept. 11 to the burning of the Reichstag building in Nazi Germany: 'It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that. After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and it put the leader of that country [Hitler] in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted. The fact is that I'm not saying [Sept. 11] was a [U.S.] plan, or anything like that because, you know, that's how they put you in the nut-ball box — dismiss you.'" Source: Star Tribune, July 9, 2007

I'm so angry. Ellison is an embarrassment to Minnesota.

UPDATE: This is a member of Congress making a Bush-Hitler comparison. Ellison should apologize for his shocking statements.

Actually MB, it’s really not. Ellison is making a comparison of the power that was gained by Hitler and Bush, not their personalities. As a former history teacher, I always told my students it was important to learn from history. That being said, anytime someone brings up 1930’s Germany as an example of what can happen when a Government starts extinguishing people’s rights for the sake of security people cry blasphemy. So, I’m curious MB, what part of Ellison’s statement is incorrect? Did W and his administration not gain a lot of power after 9/11?? Have the civil liberties of individuals at the very least not been tightened?? Just keep denouncing any critics of this government and you may make them prophets.

As shocking and stupid as the highlighted section is, Michael, it’s this part that’s the worst:

“The fact is that I’m not saying [Sept. 11] was a [U.S.] plan, or anything like that because, you know, that’s how they put you in the nut-ball box — dismiss you.’”

Fact is, he IS saying that 9/11 was a U.S. (read: Bush) conspiracy. He’s even defending the view by implying that those who propagate that kind of crap are wrongly put in “the nut-ball box”.

      Disgusting.

His views on Libby are equally stupid. He’s advocating stripping someone of his fifth amendment Constitutional rights. That’s a novel idea coming from a former defense attorney.

And what’s Scooter going to come clean about? Libby is the only victim in that whole episode. The investigation concluded that no crime had been committed long before he was even questioned.

      Disgusting.

Mark, the more correct corollary would be the comparison of Franklin Delano Roosevelt to Adolf Hitler.

Both assumed incredible power following an attack. Both interned millions of innocent people based on their race.

And FDR did more to suppress individual rights than any President in history. He also cause irrevocable harm to the country and our economy. We’re still paying for FDRs fuck ups.

Conversely, sure the gov’t gained considerable new powers following 9/11. But none of it has restricted anyone’s rights… well, unless you’re conspiring with Al Queda.

    4. Michael B. Brodkorb Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 10:19 am

Mark: I will never make a comparison between Adolf Hitler and a U.S. President.

    5. Dave of the VRWC Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 10:40 am

      Mark, you are sooo wrong.

Name me one civil liberty you have lost?

And yes, Kieth is comparing President Bush to Hitler. That makes Ellison right up there with Sheila Jackson Lee and some of the other wacko’s who the Democrats have put in congress.

    6. Down the Hatch Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 10:43 am

I think the personal attacks on posters sometimes gets a little over the top, but I have to say that I am sure glad that Mr. Peterson identified himself as a “former” history teacher. Even if there is a kernel of truth to what Mr. Peterson is saying, there is no way a conservative could get away with making a Hitler comparison with a Democratic politician. Hitler comparisons are too imflamatory and are made to link a politican with a monster. The Roosevelt compairison was much more honest and much more on point.

Unless we are speaking about genocide, let’s leave Hitler out of the conversation if possible.

    7. Mark Peterson Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 10:47 am

      Chestnut,
I agree with you, the internship of Japanese-Americans was awful, FDR was wrong and so were all of the American people who not only supported it but those who didn’t stand-up and try to stop it.

Dave, I’m not sure if my phone is tapped or not.

MB, that’s too bad. Hopefully those comparisons would never be useful, but are you saying that Nazi Germany couldn’t happen here or anywhere else? If that’s the case than we shouldn’t bother teaching about it in the classroom or doing things to protect against it. The best preventions are open government and an educated populace. Unfortunately, both of these items are going in the wrong direction.

    8. Dave of the VRWC Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 11:00 am

If Ellisons comparison is fine, then so is this one:

I left a large Lutheran church headed by a St Paul liberal Democrat. He has a problem with Israel’s right to defend itself against attacks. Hitler had a similiar view about Jews defending themselves.

    9. Dave of the VRWC Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 11:08 am

“Dave, I’m not sure if my phone is tapped or not.”

If you are making calls to known terrorist operatives in Pakistan, or making calls to those who they are calling, the gov’t may be keeping track of who else you call. Trying to connect the dots. Track down the network. It worked in England.

    10. Chestnut Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 11:22 am

      Mark,
I know whether or not your phone is tapped. Ask this question: Are you making or receiving calls from a member of a terrorist organization?

Campaign calls from Keith Ellison probably don’t count…. yet.

    11. Chestnut Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 11:27 am

… don’t forget the thousands of German Americans who were interned as well.

    12. ryan t Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 11:30 am

      Dave, that’s brilliant.

    13. wtm Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 11:38 am

And the Democrats, “the dissent,” now control Congress. It seems to me if the Hitler analogy were apt, Bush would have outlawed the Democratic Party long ago. But, he has not, and therein lies the end to the moronic, offensive, hysterical point Mark tries to make.

    14. Alan Fine Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 11:38 am

George Bush is a great President who has had to defend our country during difficult times. 911 was a wake up call for our country sounding an alarm that we are in danger. General Tommy Franks said the alarm was sounded for nearly two decades beginning in 1984 when hundreds of our soldiers were massacred in Lebanon, but we did not truly heed the alarm until 911 when we lost (in a matter of minutes) 2,752 Americans, the World Trade Center and a terrible attack on our Pentagon. Our economic infrastructure came to a grinding halt for nearly a year. Gen. Tommy Franks complained that we took too long to deal with these terrorist entities and that we should have disposed of them long before 911. Since 911, Bush has done a good job in protecting us. For nearly six years, we have been safe at home. But, distance from 911 in terms of time and miles has caused many Americans to forget. Unfortunately, Democrats have used the forgetfulness of the American public for political gain by trying to convince the America public that 911 is ancient history, that the war in Iraq is Bush colonialism and that our country is a totalitarian nation. This rhetoric is repeated by liberal elements in the media all of which serves only to endanger our citizens at home and our troops abroad. Keith Ellison is among the most extreme among Democrats in this regard. His rhetoric can be heard in the halls of states and organizations (like CAIR) that support the terrorists, who would like to rewrite history, and who would like to destroy our nation. The comparisons that Keith Ellison draws between Bush and Hitler are shameful. I agree with Michael Brodkorb, to compare any American President to such a person is outrageous. As the son of a U.S. Airforce pilot who flew 22 missions fighting against Adolf Hitler, as an American, I am offended by these comments. George Bush’s father was also in the U.S. Airforce in World War II serving our nation against the evil Nazis. Our nation is in a difficult situation in Iraq. Right now, we need to support our troops, work together for the betterment of our country, and work toward the stability of our world. More importantly, we need to recognize that this war has been thrust upon us, and that we must do whatever we can to win this war and protect our country. Respect our President and respect his efforts in trying to protect us. Realize that during times like these, he needs our support, our prayers and our help!

    15. Dave of the VRWC Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 12:12 pm

wtm, good point. If the Democrats control the legislature, wouldn’t Bush be more comparable to Hindenburg in 1933?

    16. ryan t Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

If Democrats control the Legislature, then Hitler-Bush truly is as incompetent as the alQaeda/left says he is.

Ellison is an embarrasment to MN but can we really say worse than Wellstone? ;)

Just think of the wild factless shit that would be coming out of his mouth if he were still alive and somehow won another election. (Most Minnesotan’s knew Wellstone was in trouble and most likely going to lose)

    21. Lassie Says:

      Run Alan, run!

    22. Your Momma Says:

      Mr. Fine,
Thank you so much for speaking out against Keith Ellison’s mindless rhetoric. And, thank you for supporting President Bush. What would happen if every time one of the empty heads spewed out the Keith Ellison kind of rant, there was a general (lots of people), loud (in many places) and sensible (rational) disapproval, such as yours? How long could Ellison or the others, survive with great negative criticism?

    23. Chris Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

      Mark,

I happen to know that your phones are being tapped. I’ve also heard that secret microwave radiation beams are being shot from space at your home. On top of that, black helicopters with X-Ray vison are scanning your place of work as we speak. Not only that, but Google Earth has a picture of you taking a shower (or something).

Better get out the tin foil hats, Mark.

Seriously, you demonstrate why Democrats cannot be trusted to protect America. You actually think Bush is more dangerous than al Qaeda or Islamofascists. I hope and pray that people like you don’t get elected next year our country will be attacked over and over again.

    24. Chris Says:
      July 9th, 2007 at 7:55 pm

      Michael,

Did this get tape recorded? It would make a hell of a campaign commercial next year. I’m surprised the networks haven’t picked this up: Muslim Congressman compares Bush to Hitler. I think most Americans would be shocked and sickened by this. I know I am.

    25. Mark Peterson Says:

I must point out that it is because of Alan Fine that Keith Ellison is a member of congress today. A tax and spend Republican will never win in the 5th.

    27. Craig Johnson Says:
      July 10th, 2007 at 4:37 pm

Meanwhile Keith Ellison keeps the money from the know Muslim terrorist funders at CAIR. KSTP, WCCO, KMSP and KARE refuse to run any stories on this Muslim POS. It’s enough to make one puke, twice right on Don Shelby’s head.

    28. Brent Says:
      July 10th, 2007 at 6:03 pm

Mike, if you are right then maybe David Strom should run for congress against Keith “Stalin is my hero” Ellison..
