FRANKEN’S PUBLICITY STUNT

By Michael B. Brodkorb | July 19, 2007

Al Franken’s campaign has decided to run an ad in tomorrow’s Star Tribune about Iraq. It should be of no surprise that Franken’s campaign is spending money attacking Senator Coleman, as the most recent polls show Franken trailing Coleman by over 20%.

Franken is taking heat from Democrats over his support for the war in Iraq. I view this ad as a way for Franken to build support with the Democrats. Franken’s initial support of the war in Iraq is really hurting him the DFL base. I would expect Franken to continue to run away from his pro-war record.

Remember that after originally supporting the war in Iraq, Franken now wants to “…cut off funding for thr troops.”. This position may be popular with the DFL base, but it will hurt him statewide.

I’ll have more on Franken’s ad later today on Minnesota Democrats Exposed.

Franken is crashing and I cannot think of a more fun person to watch implode. :)

My hope is that he does get the DFL nod and he is who Coleman is up against as Franken will lose that match up all day long.

The only thing more enjoyable about this is how many liberals will be upset that they could not drive Coleman out. :)

    Franken is far from crashing.

This is a great move “from a Dems view” from Al. It shows him looking at the general election against Coleman rather than attacking his rivals for the nomination. It tells the truth about Norm and it is all with accurate and current quotes. Good for Al.

Yes the “current quotes” was a little jab at the SNL day’s coming back from 20 years. ;)

If I were a repub and didn’t feel this would do anything in terms of moving poll numbers, I would at least be happy his money was spent now instead of October 2008.

This move could generate some free press, and I do feel the ad will be effective.

As if the day to day routine weren’t enough, Al needed to take out an ad to demonstrate his ignorance and stupidity?

The truth hurts. Norm said it best when he was quoted in then USA TODAY 13 July 2007…If I took a poll in my state right now, Minnesotans would say, “Get out of Iraq right now.” I’m not going to support that because I know it would be a disaster.”

–Sen. Norm Coleman, USA Today, July 13, 2007

Just goes to show whose side Normie is on. It isn’t that of Minnesotans. Norm Coleman does not represent Minnesotsans. He is a “Yes Man” to President Bush. Plain and simple.

I’m glad Norm has the courage to do what’s right, and not to waver in the winds of the latest opinion poll kathy.

I prefer leaders. Not spineless, lying Democrats.

And it just goes to show how out of touch and how much democrats like kathy hate people in the military if they are willing to make things worse for the military men and women.

Aside from the content, I just found it surprising with all the money he’s raised that Franken has such a terrible graphic designer.

You would think that he would have hired the best of the best for this top targeted race, rather than someone this sub-par.

I wonder if the media consultant who cuts his TV ads will be this bad.

No matter who wins the 20008, Republican or Democrat, the troops are not going to be pulled out of Iraq. You Dems who think Hillary or Obama will pull them out are fooling yourselves into believing what you want to happen, not what will happen.

The Dems are not going to actually pull out the troops either.

  9. MrMustang Says:
    July 20th, 2007 at 9:13 AM

all you anti-war Dems are going to be really disappointed if your side wins and the troops are still in Iraq, which they will be. Suffice it to say, even though the core of the Dem. Party is anti-war nut jobs, there are still enough grown ups in the Dem Party to not surrender immediately. Hillary has even now said she can’t promise she will pull out the troops.

Kathy, I agree to an extent that our representatives should do what the majority of the voters want (like banning partial-birth abortion). But when it comes to things like preventing genocide, I would rather have Norm do what’s right, then pull a Clinton and do what the polling says is the easy thing to do that day.

  11. Steph Says:
    July 20th, 2007 at 9:46 AM

The glaring omission in this advertisement is Franken’s call to defund the troops in the field.

That should have been the first, and boldest point if he wanted to tout his position on the War on Terror.

Demrock from all numbers I see and watching reactions on liberal sites I think it is very fair to say Franken is crashing and more and more DFL’ers are concerned about al’s electability. :)

I am glad he is spending his money now and is in the spotlight as his views will be rejected not only by all conservative in this state but also the moderates will be far more apt to vote for Coleman than Franken and many on the DFL side know this. :)
