MINNESOTA DEMOCRATS POLITICIZE 35-W BRIDGE COLLAPSE – NICK COLEMAN

By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 2, 2007

"In a word, it was avoidable.

That means it should never have happened. And that means that public anger will follow our sorrow as sure as night descended on the missing.

For half a dozen years, the motto of state government and particularly that of Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been No New Taxes. It's been popular with a lot of voters and it has mostly prevailed. So much so that Pawlenty vetoed a 5-cent gas tax increase – the first in 20 years – last spring and millions were lost that might have gone to road repair. And yes, it would have fallen even if the gas tax had gone through, because we are years behind a dangerous curve when it comes to the replacement of infrastructure that everyone but wingnuts in coonskin caps agree is one of the basic duties of government." Nick Coleman…the most loathsome person in the world. There are no depths that Nick can slither to that are lower than this: making political attacks as the bodies are still being pulled from the ruins.

Cite the entire article you dumbshit.

“Both political parties have tried to govern on the cheap, and both have dithered and dallied and spent public wealth on stadiums while scrimping on the basics.”

The silence on behalf of the liberal bloggers is deafening. Why are none of them repudiating this shameful politicizing by the extreme left?

I’ll tell you why, because Matt, Shawen and the rest of the gals an MN Pubic and the other liberal blogs believe this crap!

That being said, they still know these comments hurt any public discourse on the tragedy and it ultimately hurts their cause. Keep it up.

Yes Ned, he does say that, but he specifically singles out/attacks Republicans.

Ned is the very definition of DUMBSHIT.

Oh, and his bedmate Nick Coleman.

These Democrats have a lot of balls whining about governing on the cheap. Pawlenty proposed over $1.5 billion in highway and bridge infrastructure projects that the DFL didn’t even consider this past session. I’m not saying that the bridge wouldn’t have collapsed if the bill passed. But they are dishonest hypocrites on this issue and should be called out on it.

Like usual “Nickboy” seems to enter the fray “A day late and a dollar short”. I’m betting on undetected corroded hingepins. NTSB will grab and cut these open first and look for signs of “corrosion adhesion”. If true this will be very evident once they examine the hingepins.

If so it would have involved rather simple and cheap inspection, maintainance and repair. Like a linchpin in a trailer hitch you keep it well lubricated and perodically try to move it make sure it turns freely.

Very few bridges use this system so there is not a large body of experience to work on. In retrospect I would design the hinge pins with grease channels and grease fitting so they could be “overlubricated”. I would also have a “nut” heat built on the end with a very long tourque wrench to test how well the pin turns. This, if known is a very quick and inexpensive maintainance and inspection procedure. If this turns out to be the cause a “fix” on similar bridges should be quick and cheap.

Nick Coleman as always, fails to use any technical analysis, instead playing “Monday Morning Quarterback” a day late and a dollar short.

Here is my analysis (and it does include analysis) http://www.xanga.com/item.aspx?tab=weblogs&user=thedailydigital&uid=607753458

I hate telling people this but the I-35W bridge is maintained with FEDERAL $$$. Building stadiums has nothing to do with it.

On second thought, I’ll retract that statement. I don’t hate telling these dipsticks that.

Last night I was thinking “I wonder how long it’ll be before the Dems try to politicize this tragedy?”

Then I thought “Nah, it’s too awful. They’ll give it a few days and then pounce on it”.

I was wrong. This is a party so possessed with the idea of power and the ability to throw “Gotcha’s” at their opponents, that they can’t quite show any proper respect.

There’s a time and place (down the road) for political recriminations. There always is. But for Dems like Elwyn Tinklenberg and Nick Coleman, the question is not “When?” – but “Why Not Now?”

  10. Marc Says:
    August 2nd, 2007 at 4:48 PM

You think this is bad…wait until the next terrorist attack. There’ll be a chorus from the left of “this is because we’re in Iraq…Forget about the dozens of attacks leading up to 9-11…this one is because of Bush.”

This is what happens when the lives of a political class become dependent on exponentially growing government. They will seize on any and every opportunity to try to pad their pockets with little or no regard to true public good or common decency.

Bitter nasty comments, here. Where is the calm, folks? Action – reaction. And the world turns.

Katie Couric read part of Nick Coleman’s article on CBS Evening News tonight.

    Eva,

Katie Couric has about as much credibility as a politician as you have as a political commentator.
