Katie Couric has about as much credibility as a politician as you have as a political commentator.

This is what happens when the lives of a political class become dependent on exponentially growing government. They will seize on any and every opportunity to try to pad their pockets with little or no regard to true public good or common decency.

Then I thought “Nah, it’s too awful. They’ll give it a few days and then pounce on it”.

I was wrong. This is a party so possessed with the idea of power and the ability to throw “Gotcha’s” at their opponents, that they can’t quite show any proper respect.

There’s a time and place (down the road) for political recriminations. There always is. But for Dems like Elwyn Tinklenberg and Nick Coleman, the question is not “When?” – but “Why Not Now?”

On second thought, I’ll retract that statement. I don’t hate telling these dipsticks that.

If so it would have involved rather simple and cheap inspection, maintainance and repair. Like a linchpin in a trailer hitch you keep it well lubricated and perodically try to move it make sure it turns freely.

Very few bridges use this system so there is not a large body of experience to work on. In retrospect I would design the hinge pins with grease channels and grease fitting so they could be “overlubricated”. I would also have a “nut” heat built on the end with a very long tourque wrench to test how well the pin turns. This, if known is a very quick and inexpensive maintainance and inspection procedure. If this turns out to be the cause a “fix” on similar bridges should be quick and cheap.

Nick Coleman as always, fails to use any technical analysis, instead playing “Monday Morning Quarterback” a day late and a dollar short.
