LIVE UPDATES ON HD 28B SPECIAL ELECTION
By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 7, 2007
Today is the election day for the special election in HD 28B. I am not down in the district, but other dedicated readers of Minnesota Democrats Exposed have promised to send me updates throughout the day.
7:45 p.m.: A new campaign mailing for Pfeilsticker (paid for by the unions) hit mailboxes today.

4:03 p.m.: A dedicated reader of Minnesota Democrats Exposed sent me this picture over the weekend and I didn't post it. But now Pfeilsticker supporters want to make a a campaign issue out of literature pieces being placed in or on mailboxes. I won't label this a campaign violation as did MN Blue.

2:40 p.m.: GOP and DFL activists are canvassing Zumbrota…as expected both sides are pulling out all the stops.
1:43 p.m.: Coleen Rowley, ordering lunch at the Subway in Zumbrota.

12:47 p.m.: The first update I received is that numerous Twin Cities liberals have been seen in the district doorknocking for Pfeilsticker. Check back for more details.

I’m sure the MoveOn flunkies are out in full force…If the GOP loses a strong conservative seat like 28B to a liberal activist of questionable sexual orientation, we should just start over from scratch.
August 7th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
Arrgh – those pesky Twin Cities liberals are at it again!! Damn them and their evil grass roots tactics!!
August 7th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Grass roots comes from within the district. Twin Cities liberals are spreading like dandelions and thistle to ruin the tranquility of a nice rural area.
August 7th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
Corn? When did I have corn?
August 7th, 2007 at 2:24 pm
Moto you mean their less than honest grass roots actions.
it’s all about power with liberals.
August 7th, 2007 at 3:04 pm
What did Collen order? A cold-cut combo, heavy on the crazy with a side of lunatic incompetence?
August 7th, 2007 at 3:05 pm
mmm…liberal sandwiches.
August 7th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
The libs are hoping to hold onto the same wave that won them seats in November. It will be interesting to see if the tide has yet changed enough that the libs are rejected. They are going to do all in their power to try and grab this seat. if they fail it will be the start of what will be a very bad election cycle for them in 2008.
I am thinking they shot their wad in 2006 and by 2008 will be hurting.
August 7th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
Wow, once Time’s person of the year and now she is waiting in line at Subway in Zumbrota Minnesota!!
I suppose if she wants to keep her celebrity status up she can start hanging out with Jared!!
August 7th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
Is Cindy Sheehan, Rosie O’Donnell and the rest of the clowns down there pounding on doors too?
I’m a little surprised they allowed Rowley to help. In the best possible DFL year, she got destroyed because she is so completely and totally out of touch and crazy.
Maybe Pfeilsticker is a Rowley Democrat?
Will Sviggum’s district elect a Rowley Democrat? I guess we’ll see tonight.
August 7th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
I assumed she was a Liberal Vegan (um, no, I guess I didn’t)
I wonder if Rowley is spending any time with those two boys Pfeilsticker includes in her literature and on her Web site to give the impression that they are her sons.
I’d hate to have this crazy lady indoctrinating those poor kids.
August 7th, 2007 at 3:51 pm
Yeah, what’s Colleen’s pitch, anyway?
“Hi there, I’m Colleen Rowley. You may remember that I’m the FBI field agent who so grossly mismanaged my investigations that we never learned what was on computer of the 9/11 hijacker wanna be, who was training right here in Minnesota, until after the fact.
“Yes, I’m the one. 3,000 people were killed, due in part to my blundering incompetence. I even lied and tried to cover-up my failures. Yeah, that’s how I landed on the cover of Time. The truth coming out is a big reason why I lost my campaign for congress last year.
“You should vote for FileSticker.”
August 7th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
I’ll give it to Marc for being honest. If you are gay, there is absolutely no room for you in the Republican Party. The question alone (without anything to back it up) appears to be enough for them.
The party of corruption and hate.
Win or loose, the gop had to pull out stops in the district held 30 years by their House Leader and Senate Leader. That’s not a good sign.
August 7th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
Wow, US Postal Code violations. When did Phyllis Kahn arrive on the scene to help Pfielsticker?
In all seriousness, having been through multiple campaigns, this obviously happens on both sides of the aisle. And it is usually a case of volunteers not knowing the regulations.
You correctly point out MDE that this is not a campaign law issue. It is an issue of US Postal Regulations. Apparently the other side doesn’t get that.
I guess people in glass houses ought not toss stones around?
August 7th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
DJZ I see it just the opposite you do. Than again you are a liberal who does not base decisions in reality.
The DFL pulled out ALL stops in hope of capturing this seat. I think this will be a good indicator of how far the DFL has slipped in the last few months. If they win, then the DFL is still holding a strong run from November. If they lose I believe it will signal the peak of the DFL for many years to come. I think more people than you will admit got very upset with the tax games the DFL tried to play this year.
I hope you have your meds DJZ I think 2008 may be similar to 2000, 2002 or 2004 when liberals got their hats handed to them.
August 7th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
2004? Didn’t Matt Entenza win back like 15 house seats and come within one of a tie? Didn’t MN remain the longest running sure thing for Presidential candidates? Did the DFL win a couple of special elections?
Didn’t Republicans predict that those wins were not a beginning for change but, a peak for the DFL? Did they not predict after the 2002 election that the DFL was dead?
During 2006, didn’t you and the other ‘people’ on MDE say EXACTLY what you were saying now?
Yes to all of the above.
Spin it how you want, the DFL has already won this battle. Keep fighting very hard and throwing desperate ‘gay’ bombs and ‘tax-raising’ grenades. It served you so well last year and will work for you next year.
August 7th, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Oh, and my ‘meds’ happen to be the checks I cash from Republicans who find themselves in need help after acting like they were the only one who exist in their industry.
In that case, I’ve taken them will continue to take more.
August 7th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
“I will work diligently to reform our child protection laws†-Draz
Which child protection laws? The one that mandates reporting of a hysterical child with marks on torso that claims to have been beaten? That law’s gotta go?
We need better laws to make these kids “accountable for their actions.†She deserved it?
Let’s let this barrel sink and come back hard next year. Get this seat back from the gee-whiz neophyte by running someone with a whiff of character. Think Swigg, not Swing.
August 7th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
“The party of corruption and hate.”
Yes, that’s the DFL.
August 7th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
Lets see. Draz Whips Gay Chick. No.
Rural Values Beats the Crap Out of Farmer With Comfortable Shoes. No.
Girl Teacher Gets What She Deserves on First Attempt. No.
Fringe Candidate Barely Defends Safe Seat From Lilith. Not quite.
28B -Conservative Stronghold- Rejects Rightwing Extremist as Too Far Out. Better.
Swigg Privately Relieved After Close Call. It’s Pfeilstcker By 5%. That,s it.
August 7th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
I heard from a friend working with the DFL in Goodhue County that a few Young Republican volunteers were just sitting eating ice cream for a while. With that kind of work ethic, its no wonder we took control of the house. I bet Pfeilsticker wins 2 to 1.
August 7th, 2007 at 7:20 pm
Lets see.

August 7th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
DJZ, you are a retarded ass. Holy cow… that last litany of bizzaro bullshit was a real howler.
Nobody’s beyond becoming a DFL victim class political dependent. Pathetic.
August 7th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
We’ll see in about 20 minutes. If the spread is Pfeilstcker by 5%, I would bet on her to beat the spread. Sorry Big Kahuna – you are in for a dry spell.
August 7th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Chestnut, you know DJZ is 100% right. Republicans will sit here and say, oh Democrats are just having one good election season, it wont last because Republicans are the best blah blah blah.
You are so dillusional its almost sad. There is absolutely no way Republicans will rebound and have some huge, great spectacular year. The general public still deems Republicans as failures and there is 0 evidence of this changing.
We will most likely lose some seats in both chambers, we got some lucky breaks and it wont be as big of a Democrat year but we will keep our majorites, we have a presidential election (even if it’s Hillary) that’ll carry some districts probably.
And 28B, according to the Strib, voted for Klobuchar, voted for Walz, voted for Otto, voted for Swanson. How much of a conservative stronghold can it be?
August 7th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
“How much of a conservative stronghold can it be?”
REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 28B
OFFICIAL RESULTS GENERAL ELECTION – NOV. 7, 2006
Republican STEVE SVIGGUM 9677 60.82%
DFL JEFFREY W. FLATEN 6214 39.05%
I think this district has been held very strongly for the last 29 years by a conservative.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
It appears that STEVE DRAZKOWSKI WILL WIN
But by a margin much smaller than he should of.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
psh, thats a heavily entrenched incumbnent. I think 60% is even slightly anemic for a 30 year career politician who was house speaker.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Right now the DFL’er is ahead by 36 votes out of 2900+ counted so far.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Track it for yourself at:

August 7th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Hey DJZ – 49% reporting, – Draz is winning!!
Republican STEVE DRAZKOWSKI 1645 50.26
Democratic-Farmer-Labor LINDA PFEILSTICKER 1618 49.43
Write-In WRITE-IN** 10 0.31
August 7th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
its been updated , pfeil is winning now
August 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
draz is back in the lead, damn
August 7th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
No doubt if PFEILSTICKER loses the DFL will blaim Write in.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Maybe it’s time to transition DJZ, Grimes and Melendez. Let’s transition the DFL operatives, comment trolls and party leaders. I hear some of the Kos bloggers are looking for a union leader!
August 7th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
What a disgusting, revolting, offensive, reprehensible mailer by the unions. A blatant use of the bridge collapse to win votes. BODIES ARE STILL IN THE WATER but that has not stopped the unions from exploiting their remains for political gain.
This needs to be picked up by the media. It’s no different than if a Republican showed a picture of the Twin Towers burning and said “Tired of terror attacks like this?” You know that would make news. THis is no different.
Someone with journalistic balls MUST call the union to the carpet for this ad. Failure to do so is a collasal failure of the media.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
It’s back and forth now but earlier Pfeilsticker was ahead by a couple of hundred votes. Things are looking good right now. I now the Republicans pulled a lot of people in over the last few weeks for door knocking and lit drops. Almost 75% in and our candidate is in the lead.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:44 pm
ryant, that first mailer I think is fantastic. Draz would not do anything to help our transportation problem and the mailer shows it perfectly. There are still people missing but when are people allowed to play the blame game and use a tragedy for fundamental change? A week later, two weeks later, a month later, a year later?
August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm
Let the party begin Republicans!!! You now have secured an additional Republican allie to help Tim Pawlenty raise your taxes.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm
Draz is in the lead by hair. DFLers came from all over and forced the pitiful excuse making Republicans to put it all out there in there own district.
Now Chestnut, don’t worry about me, if Linda looses, I’ve got Plan B all ready- that’s making Drazkowski the poster boy of the GOP Party. I say we let Mark Olson have that seat back up in Big Lake. With those two on the ballot after the session in 2008, we’ll snag a couple of more seats. Of course they’ll always have the vote of the MDE crowd.
Piss poor showing boys, piss poor. I’m almost in the camp that Ron Carey has been the best GOP Chair the DFL has ever had.
Good Night and Thanks.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
As predicted earlier, Draz wins. Filesticker will lose the remaining precincts.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
This is going to be pretty close to a 60-40 victory, but hey Democrats can still claime to have only lost by a hair.
August 7th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
A colossal failure by the Draz. A recount when 3:1 victory was predicted and expected over the Gee I Think I Want to Run in One of Those candidate. Lets all go home and beat a goat. See you in 15 months.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
congrats GOP, that would’ve been embarassing.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
Gee, is it just me or does there seem to be a few sore losers out there? It has been a good night.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
The spin begins…
The DFL wastes $$$ on an unwinable seat as opposed to saving their vulnerable freshman.
Nice call DFL. Spend money against Mark Buesgens next time.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:03 pm
Mike Grimes-
“This is going to be pretty close to a 60-40 victory”
Uh, nice math there.
3 precincts out and Draz has 52.5% which is not close to 60%.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
“The DFL wastes $$$ on an unwinable seat as opposed to saving their vulnerable freshman.”
The election is 15 months away and I do not think DFL contributors are going to think a near win in a 30 year held GOP seat is a disaster.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:06 pm
Dave –
I hope the DFL spends money in this seat in 2008. Because it will mean less money to protect their incumbents.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
who predicted a 3-1 margin of victory?
and if this ad is in bounds, then so is the ad I described about terrorism. Of course, the media would throw a fit about that, while this disgusting piece of trash from the unions will go ignored.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
DJZ sez that if you are gay, there’s no room for you in the Republican party. That is absolutely untrue. Look at how the Republicans helped Paul Koering after he got endorsed by the party.
Also, there’s plenty of anti-gay animus in the democrats.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
How DOES a candidate lose his home precinct by huge margins two elections in a row? Why are there fewer votes the closer to home he gets? Familiarity breeds contempt? No, we who know this character and contempt does not describe what is felt here. Swigg come back!
August 7th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
Based on what I’m reporting, this isn’t turning into a near DFL win.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:22 pm
From the Rochester Post Bulletin website:
Drazkowski appears to be winner in District 28B election
8/7/2007 10:19:03 PM
Post-Bulletin, Rochester MN
WABASHA — With 96 percent of precincts counted, Republican Steve Drazkowski appears to have an insurmountable lead with 52.69 percent of the vote, to 47.05 percent for DFLer Linda Pfeilsticker.
State House District 28B special election results, with 51 of 53 precincts (96%) counted:
Steve Drazkowski, Republican: 3659 (52.69%)
Linda Pfeilsticker, DFL: 3267 (47.05%)
Write-in: 18 (0.26%)
Go, Draz!
August 7th, 2007 at 10:23 pm
Why would any of us take fundraising advice from the Republicans? We kick their ass on every level. I’m happy to see us spending real money on these seats. As of December 31st, everyone will be able to max out again to the Party and to candidates (non-federal).
If I had it my way, we wouldn’t spend a dime in Mpls, StPaul or Duluth. I’d spend 100,000 against Siefert, Dean, Mcnamara, Emmer, Brod, Peppin, Finstad and Cornish each. Zellers is cool. He votes like a retard but is a decent guy.
And Mike Grimes, you can kiss their asses all you won’t, they (MDE’s GOP) will never love you. Find your cajones.
Now, I bid you all a good night. I’ve got to figure out how to spin the restraining orders against elected republicans. That number grew by yet another one tonight.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
You’ve got to give it to the left… they never miss an opportunity to exploit death and personal tragedy, to coldly, and unabashedly raise taxes, before the bodies are even found. They care zero about people.
If the conservatives had the same lack of character and regard for humans, they could show taxpayers being mugged by the DFL, and the DFL trying to fix potholes by filling them with cash. But that wouldn’t fit on a flyer, and conservatives still have some tact, respect for the loss of life, civility.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
How often does DJZ usually say goodnight? Until someone cares or what?
August 7th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
100% reported. 3762 to 3333. Good night.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:31 pm
Theilman — who predicted a 3:1 victory? Draz won with a slightly greater percentage than Gov. Pawlenty in ‘06 and almost had the same percentage as Pres. Bush in ‘04.
I bet the DFL and their liberal allies outspent the GOP by 2 or 3 to 1.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:34 pm
Jim said: “We’ll see in about 20 minutes. If the spread is Pfeilstcker by 5%, I would bet on her to beat the spread.”

Elton said: “Right now the DFL’er is ahead by 36 votes out of 2900+ counted so far.”
Andrew said: “its been updated , pfeil is winning now”
Oracles they are not.
DJZ, what a whiny loser you are. The drooling fool must be hiding under his bed in fetal position sucking his thumb and holding a blankie.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Get out the butter. Ms. Pfeilsticker is toast!!! With all the precincts reporting, Steve Drazkowski has won 3,762 to 3,333, a 53 to 47 percent margin.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
It’s money down the drain for the DFL and its union minions.
Kick your rear ends again in 15 months, baby.
Go, Draz, go!
August 7th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
“Get out the butter. Ms. Pfeilsticker is toast!!!
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Right on, brother!
August 7th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
Headlines. Lets see.
Draz Whips Gay Chick. Not bad.
Rural Values Beats the Crap Out of Farmer With Comfortable Shoes. Not bad.
Girl Teacher Gets What She Deserves on First Attempt. Not bad.
Fringe Candidate Barely Defends Safe Seat From Gee Whiz Lilith. Not quite.
Swigg Privately Chagrined After Close Call. It’s the Drazster By 5%.
Yea,that,s it.

From the Rochester Post-Bulletin website just a few minutes ago:
Steve Drazkowski wins District 28B special election
8/7/2007 10:34:20 PM
Post-Bulletin, Rochester MN
WABASHA — Republican Steve Drazkowski has won the state House of Representatives District 28B special election with 52.7 percent of the vote, compared to 47 percent for DFLer Linda Pfeilsticker.
With all 53 precincts counted:
Steve Drazkowski, Republican: 3762 (52.89%)
Linda Pfeilsticker, DFL: 3333 (46.86%)
Write-in: 18 (0.25%)
A total of 6,947 votes were cast out of 22,488 registered voters in the district.
Pfeilsticker supporters are at the Coffee Mill Golf & Country Club in Wabasha tonight, and Drazkowski supporters are at the AmericInn hotel in Wabasha.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
Greenfield,
You should go to the Coffee Mill Golf & Country Club in Wabasha. Pfielsticker could use a shoulder to cry on.
P.S. I’ll take the 5%. Wouldn’t you, Mr. Sour Grapes? See you in 15 months. I don’t think we’ll be seeing Pfielsticker anymore, though.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
DJZ,
Spoken like a true loser.
August 7th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
Didn’t Eva Young out Pfeilsticker?
August 7th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Linda Pfeilsticker = Coleen Rowley
August 7th, 2007 at 10:53 pm
Eva indeed outed Pfeilsticker. Never mind that nobody but Eva cares about Pfeilsticker’s sexual preference.
Like a true DFL sociopath, however, Eva denies outing the failed DFL candidate for HD 28B
August 7th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
Al-
Actually I’m at the AmericInn in Wabasha, district 28A (as in not 28B). We are getting ready for an old family tradition where we beat a few baby goats.
Take my word, this is NOT a good guy. You and I may agree with much of his politics but would never allow family near him alone.
August 8th, 2007 at 1:18 am
Where’s Lori Sturdevant tonight? Didn’t she say the GOP was going to lose the seat? Could it be that the shamless exploitation of the 35W bridge collapse failed? Could it be people are sick of the Dems already? All bets are off for next year. Their template has failed.
August 8th, 2007 at 4:47 am
Andrew, DJZ hasn’t been 100 percent right about anything in his life. The man is almost as delusional as you are.
I believe Democrat approval ratting is somewhere below 10 percent right now. Bush’s approval rating is on the up swing, and all signs point to the fact that AGAIN THE DEMOCRATS ARE WRONG about Iraq, because the new strategy is working.
Undermining national security, disparaging soldiers in the field and steeling bread off the families of your constituents isn’t much of a formula to win elections… that seems to be the DFL play book though.
August 8th, 2007 at 8:05 am
shhhhhh there were “whispers” that Pfeilsticker was going to win….(Lori Sturdivant)…..
Considering polling at the outset showed Draz winning by 2-3% the results are good news for the GOP in that district.
We were clearly outspent. We won’t know by exactly how much until January thanks to really stupid campaign finance rules. I would bet that we were outspent 7:1 just in reportable expenditures. We’ll check that after New Year’s.
The real story in this election is the level of depravity that the unions and DFL leadership went to in order to smear the republican candidate. The democrats have demonstrated a win at all costs mentality that Minnesotans will not tolerate.
The blood letting is over. The DFL has been seen for what it is. The tide has turned. Common sense conservative solutions are back.
August 8th, 2007 at 8:24 am
Pretty much as I expected.
DJZ I hope those checks keep coming because your party is in for a ride come November. I do believe the DFL hurt themselves more than they think with the tax crap they tried to pull this year. Toss in the shameless actions of the DFL using the bridge disaster for political gain is going to work as well as the whole Wellstone gig did for you all.
Once again my liberal friends here are sour grapes over the loss. Yes, I do believe that 2008 will be like 2000, 2002, and 2004! I think what is going to change the most is the local races. Even the KSTP poll is showing that maybe 30% of MN is still hardcore lefty liberal. That is way down from years past and I think we are going to see a public who will ask for spending restraints rather than tax increases. This will spell bad news for the DFL of MN in 2008!
So here is my “Told you so” for my liberal pals here.
August 8th, 2007 at 8:34 am
Drew and others:
I bet Par Ridder is kicking himself for not stealing good columnists and a decent editorial board when he defected from the Pioneer press to the Strib. What the hell was he thinking? All he took was spreadsheets.
August 8th, 2007 at 8:40 am
Boy…Ms. Rowley is looking as “pretty” as ever
August 8th, 2007 at 10:34 am
How many people do you figure had rolled their eyes when saw the vision of Rowley coming their way.
She is the poster gal for the DFL.
Just as crazy and loony as Wellstone was, no wonder why the left loved her.
August 8th, 2007 at 11:18 am
BK, you forgot that Rowly is also stupid, lazy and incompetent… and a fucking liar. All are character traits of a Democrat.
August 8th, 2007 at 11:21 am
Chestnut you of all should know that those traits are automatically assigned to the DFL party, have been for years.
I have a strong feeling the DFL is going to see a total reversal of their gains from 2006! For sure in many of the local races here in MN.
The DFL has under estimated how offended most in MN were with their tax and spend ways.
Just as all the billboards said:
Liberalism 101: tax, tax, tax, spend, spend, spend!
Only now I think the majority of MN voters now get that and the DFL is in some serious trouble!
August 8th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Chris used the term “lifestyle” – and suggested that Linda Pfielsticker’s “lifestyle” should become a campaign issue, which I read as a veiled reference that said Pfielsticker was gay, and that gay baiting – suggesting that someone being gay disqualifies them from public office. I responded to that on Lloydletta’s Nooz. I said that trying to use that issue would backfire against Republicans. I have no idea whether Pfielsticker is gay – but clearly there are some here, who think that has something to do with qualifications to run. I also clarified my blog post, when Chris read it as stating that Pfielsticker was gay.
Clearly many posters here are trying to gay bait Pfielsticker. Someone doesn’t have to be gay in order to get gay baited.
