Oberstar’s focus was on Oberstar. All of the pork barrel projects he earmarked in his district hurt the rest of Minnesotans driving over outdated roads and bridges. Oberstar’s pork not only takes federal money away from more urgent projects, it takes state money away too. Because you have to use state matching funds in order to get those federal dollars in the first place.

If Oberstar believes his gas tax will be temporary, he has another thing coming. Our 1/2 cent sales tax increase under Arne Carlson was supposed to be temporary. Sixteen years later, we’re still paying for it.

Not only did I read Kathy’s article, I posted on it here.I titled my post “What Priorities?”

It’s no wonder liberals hate Katherine. She’s smart, informed and presents a powerful, well-reasoned argument. … That and women aren’t supposed to be conservative. They’d hate her even more if she were black.

Apparently, in Oberstar’s world, unless northern Minnesota has lots and lots of federally-subsidized bike paths to use, that region of the state is “chopped liver.”

The typical rants from the libs will appear on the editorial page tomorrow morning. Her article was well thought out and well written.

What do you expect from a career politician like Oberstar. He is a dinosaur just like a lot of those other clowns who have been in Washington since Abraham Lincoln was in office. This kind of pork is a problem that must be addressed but you can be assured these asshats will not do anything about it.

I see from a separate article that John Kline voted 100% against pork and Michele Bachmann voted 96%. Even Ramstad was at 84%. No Dem was better than 2%. Does that tell you something? We need a whole lot more people who will vote against pork and prioritize the money we send to the Federal Government.

No Chestnut, women are supposed to be in the kitchen baking cookies according to your GOP buddy Allen Quist.

  7. Lassie Says:

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. I hope this article is in the paper handed out at the State Fair today. Broadcast it everywhere, folks.

  8. Chestnut Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 12:48 PM

Jakob, according to liberals, women are nothing but sperm catchers to be sent to the baby grinder if they’re stupid enough to get pregnant.

    Kiss off.

Well, we have the 4 lane highway to no where that MinnDot said we don’t want…that we need that money for existing facilities, but Oberstar said we’re going to build it because it’s in his district.

Yesterday read that the longest paved bike trail in the nation is in his district (have to fact check that), paid for with highway funds (doesn’t need to be fact checked).

Oh, but Sen Klobachar (aka, Sen Barbie) said the bridge collapse is all Bush’s fault.

“No Chestnut, women are supposed to be in the kitchen baking cookies according to your GOP buddy Allen Quist.”

Remember when the Democrats made buttons that said “Quistians” on it, with a slash drawn through it? I do? And wbo says DFLers aren’t anti-Christian bigots…..

  11. Chestnut Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 2:05 PM

DFLers are the most rabid racists and bigots on the planet.

  12. Ulysses Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 2:16 PM

I see you are all squezing your eyes shut really hard really tight, imagining all the perfidies of the evil liberals, hoping it will do something.

I see them opening up and…

Crap. The collapsed bridge and the thirteen dead people are still there. I’m afraid to tell you all, but it seems that, as in funding things, repairing bridges and raising the dead takes a little more than invoking the evilness of liberals. You all keep trying.

Meanwhile, I hear the grownups are wondering how to fund a bridge that will stay up past November 2012, even if it isn’t up by next summer’s convention.

  13. Chestnut Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 2:40 PM

The funding’s there Ulysses. Theres more than enough funding. There’s more damn money flowing through Washtington and St. Paul than gov’t knows what to do with. That’s probably why stupid liberals seem to insist that it be spent on everything except what it should be spent on. They prefer bike trails and butterfly museums to bridges.

    Nice try, shit for brains.

  14. Homer S. Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 2:50 PM

“No Chestnut, women are supposed to be in the kitchen baking cookies…”

    Mmmm, chestnut cookies….

  15. wtm Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 3:17 PM

Bridges and roads are critical infrastructure needs. Bicycle trails and collectivized transportation systems are not critical infrastructure needs. There is not a lack of money for critical infrastructure, just a lack of priorities and common sense. God help us, with these Democrat morons in charge.

  16. Rabid Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 3:30 PM

If that’s the case Chestnut, why does W keep jacking up the national debt? What are we at 7,8,9 trillion? Maybe they don’t have enough money because the military keeps paying thousands for .19 washers and bundles of money for Halliburton’s fireplace.

  17. Chestnut Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 3:35 PM

    Rabid… man your dumb.

  18. Chestnut Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 3:35 PM

    Rabid… man, you’re dumb.

  19. Chris Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 4:55 PM

Rabid, we spend $3 trillion a year. Out of the $3 trillion, less than $500 billion goes to defense. Where is the other $2.5 trillion go?

  20. Tommy Says:

***I see from a separate article that John Kline voted 100% against pork and Michele Bachmann voted 96%. Even Ramstad was at 84%. No Dem was better than 2%. Does that tell you something? ***

Yeah – it tells me that Kline, et al were ‘FOR’ pork, before they were ‘AGAINST’ pork.

  21. jim fisher Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 6:24 PM

Rabid “Why does W keep jacking up the national debt?” If you check your facts, you`ll see that the deficet has gone down each year since the Bush tax cuts were enacted. That`s down boy, down.

  22. Drew Emmer Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 6:32 PM

Oberstar is a career politician. Time to be Overstar. Thank you for your years of service, and farewell.

The “raise the gas tax 5 cents or God help you” line made the national news. Nice work Jim.

  23. Dave of the VRWC Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 7:11 PM

“Maybe they don’t have enough money because the military keeps paying thousands for .19 washers and bundles of money for Halliburton’s fireplace.”

Actually the huge charge was fraud that the Bush administration caught through an audit and the people who did it are going to jail. what the fuck is your problem with that Rabid?

Haliburton is making very little return on their investment in Iraq, around 3%. And they have lost around 60 employees due to murder in Iraq. Rabid, if you ran a division of my business and only made a 3% return, I would fire your leftist ass so fast…..

  24. Woodbury Conservative Says:
    August 24th, 2007 at 8:24 AM

Sounds like Rabidturd is still using the old Lib talking points manual – what a loser.

  25. Minneapolis Moderate Says:
    August 24th, 2007 at 11:22 AM

Riddle me this: Senator Steve Murphy predicted another bridge will collapse in Minnesota.

Why didn’t the all-knowing Senator predict the flooding in SE MN, so those people could have saved their belongings?

I bet Pawlenty and Molnau are to blame for the flooding too…

Back to the bridge: design flaws, several days of unusually hot weather, and tons of equipment and materials for road repairs on the bridge – don’t you think those factors – and not the failure to raise the gas tax – caused the bridge to collapse?

I believe Oberstar is in ober his head.
