DO THEY SERVE HOT-DISHES AND POTATO SALAD IN THE ULTRA-SWANKY HAMPTONS?

By Michael B. Brodkorb | August 24, 2007

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed a ridiculous effort to brand Al Franken as against big-dollar fundraising events and as someone who only attends potlucks dinners.

I'm surprised this post from Huffington Post didn't have Franken's campaign disclaimer at the end:

"Minneapolis — This Tuesday, George W. Bush and Norm Coleman will attend a fundraiser for Coleman at a private home in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. You can probably attend, too. A mere one thousand dollars will get you in. Give $10,000 and they'll list you as a co-host in the program. Give $14,600, and they'll say you're a host.

That same day, Al Franken will appear at a food drive in a picnic shelter in a public park in Plymouth, Minnesota.
Then he'll race across town to a non-fundraising potluck dinner at the East Side Community Center in Saint Paul. You can probably attend those events for less than a thousand dollars A contribution of some kind of canned goods would be nice at one. It sounds like they won't even pass the hat at the other.

Tuesday illustrates the difference between the two men, the two campaigns, and the two fundraising efforts. Coleman hobnobs, Franken runs. Go to alfranken.com. Watch one or two of the videos posted there. See for yourself." Source: Huffington Post, August 18, 2007

###

Are we to believe the thousands and thousands of dollars Franken raised from Hollywood liberals were raised at potluck dinners?

Not to be outdone, the bloggers behind MN Publius spread it on really thick with this paragraph from post on Bush's recent visit to Minnesota:

"Who do you think will do a better job of honestly representing the people of Minnesota, the guy who owes the President and a handful of individuals hundreds of thousands of dollars, or the guy [Al Franken] who took time out of his day to sit down with everyday Minnesotans over hot-dish and potato salad?"  Source: MN Publius, August 9, 2007

Hot dish and potato salad?  Come on!  It may not be known to most Minnesotans, but Franken was scheduled to hold a fundraiser in the ultra-swanky Hamptons of New York:

"Even comedian/writer Al Franken is cashing in on the scene. He'll be toasted in Southampton to help raise bucks for his Senatorial run in Minnesota." Source: Hamptons.com

and

"Are you Hamptons-bound this weekend? So are Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton, who will be attending several fund-raisers for her presidential campaign. The already hectic traffic scene will certainly be exacerbated by the Clintons' motorcade and those of at least three other politicos holding events there this weekend: Rudolph W. Giuliani, Al Franken and Howard Dean." Source: New York Times, August 2, 2007

According to my sources, Franken canceled the fundraising events in the Hamptons due to the 35-W bridge collapse. I couldn't find information on Franken's Hampton event on his campaign website, nor did any Minnesota blogs post on it.

I'm sure Franken's campaign and his supporters in the liberal blogosphere don't want to talk about Franken's fundraising trips to the Hamptons.

But rest assured that if I find out more information on Franken's visits to the Hamptons, I'll post it on Minnesota Democrats Exposed.

I find that racially insensative. As a native Scandinavian-American-Wisc-Minnesota-Lutheran resident, we are not all about potato salad and hotdish. What next, an Amos and Andy routine when (if?) he visits North Mpls? I demand that Al issue an apology and attend diversity training.

Coleman needs to call Franken’s bluff: no more fundraisers with President Bush for Coleman if Franken does not accept any more money from Hollywood and the East Coast.

Of course Franken goes to “non-fundraisers” … nobody in Minnesota gives him any money. The only time he raises money is when he leaves the state.

The Hollywood and Hampton’s crowd are his base anyway. Bunch of fucking elitists who want to tell me how to live, while following none of their own dictates.

Liberals are the most greedy, most polluting, most hypocritical, racist assholes on the planet. Lying, coward, hypocrites.

They can make their check’s payable to Al Franken. I’ll make mine out to Norm Coleman, a good man who’s served this state extremely well for over 30 years.

I particularly like that Michael points out that the Hampton fundraiser isnt anywhere on his website.

Furthermore, Franken’s had big money fundraisers in California and NYC right after he announced, early enough for anyone to notice where a lot of his start up money came from.

Such hypocrisy from the campaign camp.

AMAZING post Michael, best post I’ve ever read on this site. First time I’ve never had to look through the bias and spin, the facts really did speak for itself this time.

Go to Al’s pre-campaign “Midwest Values Pac” report to see who he receives money from. Meathead, Babs and even Jimi Smits (the good looking guy from LA Law and West Wing). Not exactly your potato salad church basement folks.

The vast majority of the money was raised in New York and LA. Not surprising.

Voters are tired of both parties and are looking for authenticity this year. Poser Al’s going to have a hard time selling himself as the guy down the street. But hey DFL, go ahead. Voters are really that stupid.
