MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “FRANKEN’S DISGRACED DONOR SKIPS BAIL HEARING; REPUBLICAN PARTY OF MINNESOTA CALLS ON AL FRANKEN TO DISCLOSE ALL CONTACTS WITH NORMAN HSU”

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 5, 2007

St. Paul - Republican Party of Minnesota of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today called on Al Franken to disclose any and all contacts with disgraced Democrat fundraiser Norman Hsu.

"While Al Franken’s decision to give back disgraced fundraiser Norman Hsu’s donation is a welcome start, there remain many unanswered questions about Hsu, his criminal past, his recent activities and his interest in Minnesota politics.  Al Franken needs to immediately answer these deeply troubling questions.

    1. Did well-known bundler Norman Hsu bundle donations for Al Franken's U.S. Senate campaign?
    2. Did Al Franken or his campaign have any contacts with Norman Hsu?
    3. Was Al Franken or his campaign aware of Norman Hsu's criminal past before the Franken campaign accepted his money?”

Disgraced Team Franken Donor Norm Hsu: A Primer

Breaking News: "Democratic Fundraiser Norman Hsu Failed To Appear Wednesday For A Bail Hearing And A Judge Issued A New Warrant For His Arrest." ("Democratic Donor A No Show At Hearing," The Associated Press, 9/5/07)

"The [Wall Street] Journal Noted Unusual Patterns Between Mr. Hsu's Political Donations And Those Of People He Knew, In Particular The Residents Of A Tiny House In Daly City, Calif., Who Often Gave Large Contributions On The Exact Same Day And For The Exact Same Amount Mr. Hsu Did." (Brody Mullins and Ianthe Jeanne Dugan, "Democrats Race To Return Cash From Big Donor," The Wall Street Journal, 8/30/07)

"[T]he Los Angeles Times Reported That Mr. Hsu Had Legal Troubles In His Past, And That He Faces Arrest In California After Failing To Appear For Sentencing More Than A Decade Ago On Charges Stemming From A Business Deal." (Brody Mullins and Ianthe Jeanne Dugan, "Democrats Race To Return Cash From Big Donor," The Wall Street Journal, 8/30/07)

Norman Hsu Pleaded No Contest To Grand Theft And Vanished Without Serving His Sentence. "For the last 15 years, California authorities have been trying to figure out what happened to a businessman named Norman Hsu, who pleaded no contest to grand theft, agreed to serve up to three years in prison and then seemed to vanish." (Chuck Neubauer and Robin Fields, "Democratic Fundraiser Is A Fugitive In Plain Sight," Los Angeles Times, 8/29/07)

    Hsu & Team Franken

"The donor, Norman Hsu, said Wednesday that he will 'refrain from all fundraising activities' until he resolves the case.  His statement came as other Democrats also sought to distance themselves, including Minnesota Senate candidate Al Franken, whose campaign received $2,300 from Hsu."  (Mike McIntire And Leslie Eaton, "Major Democratic Donor Is California Fugitive," Star Tribune, August 30, 2007)

Romney Fundraising Scandal Ignored By Liberal Media - Clinton Gets Hammered Over Hsu
By: Logan Murphy on Monday, September 3rd, 2007 at 7:02 PM - PDT August was a disastrous month for Republicans and the Romney campaign took a huge hit when it’s national finance committee co-chairman, Alan B. Fabian was charged in a 23 count indictment, including charges of money laundering, mail fraud, perjury and obstruction of justice. It’s reported Fabian, a former Bush Pioneer, allegedly ran a scheme that netted him millions of dollars which were used to purchase beach front property and travel. The Romney campaign said they would return Fabian’s $2,300 campaign donation, but not funds donated by others through him. Fabian stepped down from Romney’s campaign shortly after his August 9th indictment — but you may not have heard much about this scandal.

However, you may have heard of a scandal involving Senator Hillary Clinton’s campaign and a less-than savory character named Norman Hsu. According to reports from the LA Times, Hsu skipped out on a 1991 plea agreement in San Mateo Co. CA, in which he was to serve three years for grand theft. Hsu, who turned himself in to authorities in CA on Friday and awaits a September 5th bail hearing, became a top Democratic fundraiser and contributor to Hillary Clinton’s campaign as well as other Democratic candidates, including Senator Barack Obama, much of which was laundered through others. The Clinton campaign has agreed to return $23,000 in campaign donations from Hsu, and Obama has agreed to donate his $2,300 donation to charity.

While both scandals hold equal potential for damage to the respective candidates involved, the media, for unknown reasons, gave Mitt Romney a pass, while devoting ample time to Hsu and the Clinton campaign. According to Media Matters, NBC, CNN and FOXNews all covered the Hsu scandal, but none of the aforementioned networks dedicated any time to the Romney/Fabian scandal that can be found in the Nexis database. More from Media Matters:

Summary: In recent days, NBC, CNN, and Fox News have all aired reports or discussed the case of Norman Hsu, who The Wall Street Journal suggested may have funneled illegal campaign contributions to Sen. Hillary Clinton. However, when Mitt Romney’s national finance committee co-chairman Alan Fabian was charged with mail fraud, money laundering, bankruptcy fraud, perjury and obstruction of justice, the three networks did not report or discuss it during programs available in the Nexis database.

Hsu channelled over $1.6 million, supposedly over $500,000 of his own money, the greatest amount going to Hillary’s campaign, and entirely to Democrats.

Past Clinton campaigns (her husbands) have a history of soliciting contributions from foreign, semi-hostile governments. All Clinton campaigns have a deep rooted history of coruption.

Hsu is a wanted fugitive, on the lam for over 10 years. The money Hsu channeled is the subject of the crime and investigation.

None of this is the case with Romney’s contributor.

That might explain the focus on Hsu. Jackass.

BTW… who gives a shit what “Media Matters” has to say. It’s a George Soros puppet site, and is maintained leftists who are too lazy to do complete research.

Who appointed the judge that allowed a fugitive to go free on bail?
Who is surprised that a fugitive would run again?

Who will be surprised that the Government of China is once again supporting the Clintons?

Man, that Soros sure gets around. Funny how his name isn’t even mentioned anywhere at the Media Matters website, but I guess that’s his m.o. — feeding talking points to his minions in the media from his secret bunker somewhere under Virginia. Oh wait. Sorry, that’s Cheney.
