RT, the mayor of Minneapolis, lives in – Minneapolis.
Humphrey is an interesting name. As is Terri Bonoff. The Republicans so far are all too conservative for this district.
What about Republican Judy Johnson?
Mayor of Plymouth and is pro-choice.

Paulsen is the republican that best fits this district.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
Judy Johnson would be a good candidate, but it would be difficult for her to win the endorsement from Paulsen.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
What about Sheriff Rich Stanek of Hennepin County?
September 17th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
How about someone from outside of politics like business?
September 17th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Who is the last pro-choice republican to win anything?
September 17th, 2007 at 3:38 pm
Erik Paulsen is by far the best candidate.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Jeff Johnson???
September 17th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
How about Brian Sullivan? Haven’t heard his name yet. Does he live in the third?

Joyce Peppin is a smart, articulate and media savvy candidate to replace Jim Ramstad. Not only does she represent the fastest growing part of the third congressional district in her Minnesota House District 32A (Maple Grove, Rogers, Hanover and the northwest suburbs) but she fits the profile of the suburban woman swing voter who will ultimately decide the outcome of the election.

What about David Gaither? He’s not a d-bag. Seriously, he’s not….No, I’m not kidding.

I hope real estate developer Kelly Doran gets in the race. He lives in Eden Prarie and is definitely in the district. Doran has all the qualities to win the 3rd district. His business credentials, moderate stances, and not to mention financial wearwithall.
Go listen to the 2006 MPR DFL Gov debate…he was clearly the winner.

Kelly Doran? You don’t get to run for Governor and Senate and then get nominated for Congress. The names that run for an open congress seat are often underwhelming but that doesn’t mean Doran has any more shot then he did for Governor or Senate.

RT – Minneapolis
Dohhhh!!!
But on the right, Jeff Johnson and Brian Sullivan are names some are throwing around.

Rep. Steve Simon is looking at this. I know for fact that he’s spoken to several 3rd CD activists today. There’d been rumors for a few months, now, that he was looking at this.

I like David Hann. The district is conservative enough. Bush won it in 00 and 04 Pawlenty beat Hatch by 12% last year. Peppin would be good too. Paulsen is not overly conservative. Michel is a good candidate. This is our chance to get a conservative in there.

Judy Johnson is pro-life – and nearly won in the rematch against Terri Bonoff.

Judy Johnson lost twice to Terri Bonoff in a solidly Republican district. She’s a light-weight.

You can’t say Judy’s a lightweight when you look at her accomplishments as Mayor of Plymouth. She lost the first time because she goofed – bit time, when a question about creationism was asked at a Chamber of Commerce debate. That was a huge issue in Minnetonka due to the activities of Dave Eaton – a Minnetonka school board member. This was also when the issue got some national prominence because it was when the Dover trial was getting lots of press. That was seen by many as a second Scopes monkey trial. The second time, she came very close – and this was in an area where she was outspent by huge margins.
Judy would be a good candidate to reach out to the soccer moms.

lightweight. Simple question, badly answered.
she was outspent by huge margins.
again, lightweight, if you can’t raise money, you’re out of the game.
I’ll admit she did a fine job as mayor of Plymouth, but how hard is that? It’s frickin’ Plymouth. The mayor is just the head of the city council and doesn’t actually run anything day to day.

Another vote for Jeff Johnson
September 18th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
I know Jeff. I’d love to have him as my representative, but I really doubt that he’d be interested in working in DC while having a working wife with two young boys back in MN. Plus, he’s got other plans.

According to their bio’s, Paulsen has 4 kids at home and Michel has 3. I don’t think you can rule people out because they have young kids.
September 18th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
Tell you what, DJ, I’ll ask him about it. But I do know he has other plans of a more local nature.
