LIKE MDE, WCCO CALLS ANTI-WAR AD AGAINST COLEMAN “MISLEADING”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 20, 2007

Around two weeks ago, I wrote about a sloppy and misleading attack ad today against Senator Norm Coleman released by the anti-war group Americans Against Escalation in Iraq. Americans Against Escalation in Iraq is best described as an "umbrella organization for several liberal anti-war groups."

Well, it seems WCCO agrees with my analysis of this ad. Pat Kessler labeled the ad as "misleading" in his "Reality Check" last evening.

Here's a sample of what Kessler said:

"Four years into that war the debate over the United States involvement in Iraq hasn't stopped and battling ads are back on the airwaves.

A provocative anti-war ad targets Senator Norm Coleman for his votes supporting the president and war.

However, it distorts Coleman's views about Iraq, and the reasons for his votes.

'Senator Coleman voted against bringing our troops home six times,' said the Campaign to Defend America ad announcer.

That's deceptive, and MISLEADING." Source: WCCO, September 19, 2007

Click here for the complete story.

A member organization of Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, Americans United For Change, had a press conference in July to release an attack ad against Coleman.  Donald McFarland, the Minnesota Director of Americans United for Change, was asked a question by a reporter on who funds his group. McFarland’s first response was that he didn’t “have the answer” to who funds his group.  Click here to watch McFarland fumble the reporter's question.

Americans Against Escalation in Iraq and Americans United for Change are noting but shadowy front groups for national liberals and union bosses. Click here for the Republican Party of Minnesota’s research briefing on Americans United for Change.

If I recall correctly from previous years, the WCCO campaign fact check is very fair. They analyze the claims made by both sides and will, if neccesary, refute either sides assertions.

Side note, I find it highly unlikely that the children of this group will ever serve their country.

    Misleading???? Please!

Is it also Misleading that Norm has voted with Bush over 90% of the time???

Here we go. Its the “votes with Bush” syndrome again. Gee, Iron-Range-Idiot…how can Bush vote in the Senate? I’m trying to figure that one out. There’s 100 senators…100 votes. Where’d that extra vote for Bush come in?

Oh, and before your head explodes with its three brain cells, I guess YOU don’t have a problem with Lil Amy K voting over 90% of the time with Harry Reid, right? Ain’t it grand that Nevada has 3 senators and Minnesota has only Coleman? Nevada’s best value: a bought-and-paid-for AmyKlo

Coleman is trying to pull a “Mark Kennedy” and run away from Bush. We all remember how well that election turned out :)

Coleman is a snake oil salesman and even after 5 years people have still not warmed up to him. The fact that Ciresi or Franken with all their negatives have a great chance to take him out, shows how awful his performance so far has been representing Minnesota.

“great chance to take him out”? Wow, nice crystal ball you have there. Over 1 year out and you think the chances are “great”?

Fraud-ken hasn’t some within 9 points of Coleman and you think he has a “great” chance? Snowball’s chance in Hell is far more accurate, unless you are drinking the moveon.org kool-aid.

Read any of the national political rags and they all say bluntly Coleman is very vunerable. If the war continues to falter and Minnesotans are enlightened of Senator Coleman’s contining waffling on just about any issue, the Senator will need a negative campaign of epic proportions to win.

Ciresi or Franken have at least a 50-50 shot now and I am sure that senario will be better come next fall, when Senator Coleman has voted a couple more times in support of an unpopular war and had Bush or Cheney here for a few more fundraisers.

Chauncy, just what flavor have you been drinking??

First off the powers that be in the DFL are bought and paid for by Al Franken. He did his whole PAC thing last year to buy his spot for the DFL nod. Ciresi does not hold a chance to bump Franken off. So, Ciresi does not have a 50% chance at all. While Coleman is a typical politician and will do or say what he has to to stay in office, he is not Al Franken who Minnesotans will not EVER warm up to. So, Coleman takes this one again and we will have to hear you whining liberaals cry for another year or so until you tell us who was so close to being beat next. ;)

What will be funny, is how much a chance the Republicans will have when Amy is up again! :) Even the leftist liberals on the democrat underground want her out now. Amy is a total joke but you lefties just had to push her through even though many of you at the time knew she was a very poor leader.

  8. Dave Says:
    September 20th, 2007 at 4:38 PM

Until recently, Franken was down over 20 points. Recently, he was down 9 points. How that equates to 50/50 is beyond me.

No candidate this side of Hilly Clinty has the negatives of Fraud-ken. That fact, with Coleman’s positive polling, will vaporize Al.

Oh, and I have seen the “ratings” for the races. Minnesota has been moving DOWN the list, not UP. Of course, for kool-aid guzzlers like Chauncy…down is up and up is down.

  9. Bobcat Dorsey Says:
    September 20th, 2007 at 10:45 PM

The DFL is not bought and paid for by Franken and it is in doubt he will even win the endorsement, although it’s good to see the GOP underestimating him if he does.

I grant you the DFL should have better candidates to defeat weaselboy, but I agree with Chauncy that the race in the end will be a toss up. Weaselboy has had a hard time breaking 50% in any statewide election and I don’t know why this one would be any different.

  10. Big Kahuna Says:
    September 21st, 2007 at 10:50 AM

Bobcat are you up for a little wager??

Name your price because I will win as it is not even a question that the DFL will support AL Franken. If not they will see a lot of money go away, so you do the math.
If there is one thing we can count on with the DFL is they will do whatever it takes to get the funds they need to push their socialist agenda.
