THE FIX MOVES DROPS RANKING ON MINNESOTA RACE – AGAIN

By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 21, 2007

"8. Minnesota (R): The first time we ranked the 2008 Senate races earlier this year, Minnesota came in at number two. So why has it dropped all the way to eighth over the intervening six months? A combination of factors including a number of other seats across the country that have grown more vulnerable during that time, the growing sense that Coleman is positioning himself as well as he can on the war in Iraq and the continued lack of faith in some quarters of the Democratic party that either 2000 candidate Mike Ciresi or comedian Al Franken can oust the incumbent. After a trip to Iraq earlier this month, Coleman jumped behind a proposal by Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) that calls for a modest troop withdrawal by the end of the year but enforces no hard timetable for the withdrawal of all American troops. Will that position be enough to satisfy Minnesota voters? (Previous ranking: 7)" Source: The Fix, Washington Post, September 21, 2007

Wasn’t it just yesterday, when the moveon.org kool-aid drinkers were saying this race was a 50/50 crap shoot? And wasn’t I saying they were just full of crap?

The race has moved from #2 to #8 and falling. What do the polls say? Coleman by 9, Franken with negatives that have rarely been seen.

    Truth hurts, Peaches!

This will be an ugly fight. The left will make it personal and nasty, but in the end Sen. Norm Coleman will be re-elected because he is thoughtful, smart, hardworking, and has continually delivererd for Minnesota. He has lived here for 30 years, raised his family, served in the Attorney Generals office,as mayor of ST. Paul he reinvigorated the city, brought back a Hockey Team and has been an effective Senator for Minnesota.

That is a far more effective resume than an angry, crap-throwing comedian or a money grubbing trial lawyer.

In the end who’s done more for Minnesota? Easy answer: Senator Norm Coleman. I like my odds.

In response to the high-lighted red part of the post, that’s why Minnesotans need to learn about Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer!!!

and certainly the #2 to #8 move shouldnt be completely credited to MN itself, it should be mainly credited to the shitty showering the GOP will be having in New Hampshire, and Virginia now, and probably Nebraska. So 3 of those moves are attributed to other races becoming more competitive, not ours becoming less.

What recent poll has Coleman up by 9? Most recent poll had it at a 4-5 point lead (depending on whether it was Ciresi or Franken), down from a 22 point lead earlier this spring.

Who cares. Only needs 51 to win.

    Really?

    Broom Wellstone 44%

    Norm Coleman 40%

    Al Franken 10%

    Other 6%
