BREAKING NEWS: BRIAN SULLIVAN DECIDES AGAINST RUN FOR CONGRESS IN 3RD CD
By Michael B. Brodkorb | September 24, 2007
I just received the below email from Republican National Committeeman Brian Sullivan.
###
Dear Friends,
When Jim Ramstad announced his decision not to run for re-election as the Third District Congressman, I received many calls encouraging me to seek the Republican nomination, and I agreed to consider doing so. I appreciate the trust many of you have shown in me by asking me to get into this race. It would be an honor to serve the Third District as its Representative in the U.S. Congress. However, the timing is not right for my family or me. As a result, I have decided not to enter the race to replace Jim Ramstad as Minnesota’s Third District Congressman.
Mia and I had a third daughter this past April, and I acquired another business in May. It is simply not possible for me to disengage from either my family or my businesses at this time to run for this office. I will continue to serve as Minnesota’s Republican National Committeeman, and I will work hard to elect a Republican Congressman in the Third District.
Jim Ramstad has served our state and our country well these past 17 years as our Third District Congressman. He deserves our gratitude for his selfless commitment to public service. Our family wishes him all the best.
Best Regards,
Brian

Bad news for Democrats…

[...] 1) Brian Sullivan, the wealthy (and crazy) businessman/RNC Committeeman is out of the CD 3 race. I know a lot of DFLers were salivating over the prospect of running against the just-to-the-right-of-Atilla-the-Hun Sullivan, but I’m glad that his craziness is out of the race. The “root for the craziest GOPer to win the nomination” theory has one major flaw: sometimes they win the general (witness Michele “hugs and kisses” Bachmann). We’re better off with Sullivan no where near the wheels of government. For the idiots at MnPOOPlius, Chairman Mao was a radical right-winger….

I live in “is my hair pretty today” Bachmann’s district. She won here because it’s a mini bible belt and there are a lot of rednecks in Forest Lake, Hugo, etc. This IS NOT the demographic in CD 3. It is going to be quite the race to watch…

Andrew’s not all that comfortable with the present reality, much less to be predicting the future.
I remember Brian Sullivan running a smart, articulate, thoughtful and well reasoned campaign for governor in 2002. Unfortunate for him, someone was running an even smarter, more articulate and better reasoned campaign that same year — Tim Pawlenty. The MNGOP’s cup overflowed that year. And he’s served the State GOP party very well.
He’d be a great candidate in whatever capacity, and in whatever district for Minnesota. Something tells me we’re just as well of having him in his current role.

Bachmann won because she is attractive and articulate!!! Remember that Bill Luther used to represent the area!

And before Luther, Gerry Sikorski (the check kiter).

Brian Sullivan is a decent guy. He also didn’t push boondoggles like the JOBZ program.

Truthteller you are a bigoted horses ass…. bachmann won because she is not a lunatic commie…. Mnpubliar calls anyone they do not agree with crazy….. Matt and sean are big ass dickheads

Eva,
So JOBZ is a boondoggle? I guess it must be considering Minneapolis doesn’t have any JOBZ zones. Eva, your silence on Minneapolis, St. Paul and Duluth siphoning off education dollars from the rest of the state at a tune of $4,000-$6000 per student is deafening.

I was a Pawlenty supporter in 2002, but was very impressed by the way Sullivan handeled his endorsement defeat. He was very gracious then and again showed he is a class act with this announcement. The lefty kooks can say he would have been their choice because he is too extreme and could have been defeated, but the reality is he could have and likely would have run providing the 3rd with not a kook but a real conservative. Minnesota Republicans are lucky to have Brian Sullivan in our leadership.

You mean that boondoggle JOBZ program that’s bringing employment opportunities and economic stability to out-state Minnesota? That boondoggle?
The JOBZ program that the Star Tribune investigation showed was helping families in Minnesota, and not moving jobs from one area to another? The one that’s helping to revitalize communities destroyed by DFL taxation?
September 25th, 2007 at 7:42 AM
… the JOBZ program that once again proved liberals are always wrong in their predictions, and Republican policies work?
Is that what you meant Eva?

Sullivan was the best choice for the 3rd!!! He was a wealthy guy that could have represented a wealthy district…Good fit overall!
September 25th, 2007 at 10:47 AM
Sullivan is not only a decent guy, he will be very popular in the 3rd! While our liberal friends will try to pint him as a radical, he simply is not and many respect his business success and no non-sense approach to problems. I wanted Sullivan over Pawlenty, so I think this will be great if he runs.
The 3rd has been a conservative district for years. Yes, with the growth of the cities in that area we have attracted more and more liberals. Still a very far cry from a purple or blue district.
Ramstad was in BIG trouble in the 3rd if he would have run again. Many had gathered and expressed serious anger with him over all the votes he made in lock step with the poodle purse Polosi! The best chance the DFL had would have been to run against Ramstad! I know I would have just stayed home as I refuse to vote for Ramstad again, but put Sullivan in, and now we have an excited base in the 3rd.
For those who think the 3rd may be turning blue, take a look at Wendy Wildes numbers, did she even make double digits?
Seems so one wanted “Mom” to be running anything.

New Jobs Projected: 6555
Capital Investment Committed: $570,944,278.98
Capital Investment Projected: $1,220,232,491.10
