I’m wondering if because Peppin is out, does that mean Zellers (who represents the other half of Peppin’s Senate District) will consider running more seriously?

At 90K she, Terry Bonnoff, would be required to file her report electronically, so should make a where is money from search very easy.
If she is in compliance, it should be up on the http://www.fec.gov web site by the 15th.

if you goto this web page http://www.fec.gov/finance/disclosure/efile_search.shtml and put in the committee number C00439125 her report should show up, soon.

If anyone wonders why candidates don’t run, take a look at what the political hacks have done to the system. No discussion of ideas, just politics, posturing, and polls. Who really likes the idea of $500,000 being spent on TV telling everyone you are a bitch/asshole no matter what you’ve done? And what is your reward if you win? Making less money, giving up the chance to raise your kids, and living out of a suitcase.

No thanks. I’ll keep my private sector job.

Joyce Peppin would have been a great candidate. She’s a real conservative and extremely good at annunciating the principles. She also bunks with one of the most effective political operatives in Minnesota. That’s a pretty stellar team to contend with.

Joyce has the capacity no doubt. But she must not have felt the timing was right for her family. Good decision.

Erik Paulson is an exceptional candidate. Far more appealing than any of the other RINOs that were mentioned as possibilities.

I would not assume that Terry Bonnoff’s claim that she has raised $90,000 so quickly is indeed a reflection so much on her fundraising abilities as it may be indicative of the MoveOn puppetmasters liking her ability to follow their script.

Are the FEC reports available to substantiate where the dough came from?

Why are some of these folks shying away from this race?
Just like the Presidential campaign; first–shore up your base to get the party’s nomination, then, move to the center–to attract independent and undecided voters.

The 3rd CD epitomizes much of this strategy.

Peppin/Michel/Hann are no dummies, and I would’ve thrown my full support behind any one of them.

I am still startled by Bonoff’s ability to raise $90K this fast—in my opinion, that’s amazing for a newly announced candidate.

This race will take some interesting turns, I just hope we (GOP) can provide the voters with a responsible candidate that can not only carry on Ramstad’s tradition of give-and-take, but can also give the Republican voters of the 3rd CD, a rep that we can rely on.

Interesting to say the least….

I don’t get why we are hearing so many from both parties shy away from this race. I mean Bonoff and Paulsen, with all due respect, are not such juggernauts that others should shy away from a challenge.

My guess is that, since this is not a sure thing for either party, sitting legislators are not willing to give up their day jobs, as they would have to do, to make a run for Congress.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard from more County Commissioner types and others who don’t have an election in ’08 and could keep their jobs and run.

In rereading my earlier post, I realize that it may come across as unduly critical. That is far from my intent. Michael’s posts are invaluable, and I read them every day. It is just that I find myself often either wondering about the missing info or (frustrated) doing a search to look it up.

Michael,

Why do you play what Glenn Reynolds calls “Name that party?”

Many of your posts identify legislators and their numerical districts, but do not give party affiliation or city. For example, you did not include party affiliation or city in yesterday’s post about Senator David Hann from SD 42. [He's a Republican from Eden Prairie.] Nor was there any such identification about Melissa Hortman in your post Tuesday. [She's a DFLer from Brooklyn Park.]

I would bet that most of your readers do not have that information memorized for the whole state of Minnesota. [A quick test - name the party affiliation and city represented by Kim Norton. District numbers don't do it: telling you that she is from District 29B is not much help.]

You would enhance the value of your blog by including party affiliation and city (or similar geaopgraphic name) as a routine part of every post about any politician.
