PRESS RELEASE: “ZELLERS RULES OUT RUN FOR CONGRESS”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 22, 2007

As I reported on Friday, Representative Kurt Zellers has decided against running for Congress.  I received a formal press announcement from him earlier today.

###

Maple Grove, MN – Representative Kurt Zellers (R – Maple Grove) announced today that he will not be a candidate for Congress in Minnesota’s Third Congressional District, citing family commitment and dedication to the taxpayers of District 32B.

"While this was an exciting and thoughtful experience, my three year old daughter, Reagan made the final decision easy for me when she asked, ‘Will we still have Daddy days?”. The time and commitment to my two young children and my wife is much more important to me than running for higher office,” Zellers said.

Zellers commitment to lower taxes and a more efficient use of tax payer dollars will not change, "The voters and taxpayers of the 3rd Congressional District that I talked with are demanding a return of fiscal responsibility to all levels of government and with the tax frenzy Democrats in Washington and here in St. Paul have been on – there is still a LOT of work left to be done."

And the biased editorialists and liberal Democrat strategists who are proclaiming this seat competitive are wrong, "I am convinced that the taxpayers in the 3rd Congressional District are yearning for a return to the common sense conservative principles of Ronald Reagan that have been lost on the current Democrat power regime in Washington and St. Paul," Zellers said.

"The Republican who will commit to balancing the budget, holding the line on taxes and actually enforcing our immigration laws will have the full support of the vast majority of the voters in the 3rd District." Zellers, a Republican, was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2003 and is in his 3rd term and is an Assistant House Minority Leader. He and his wife have two kids, Reagan and Will, and a big black lab named Garske. They live in Maple Grove. Kim Zellers is an elementary school teacher.
