MESABI DAILY NEWS: “BAKK PONDERS GUBERNATORIAL RUN”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 23, 2007

"ST. PAUL — State Sen. Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook, is 'exploring the possibility' of running for governor in 2010.

'I will make a final decision sometime next summer. But yes, I’m considering it,' the chairman of the Senate Tax Committee said in a telephone interview from St. Paul Monday afternoon.

Bakk said even though that would be a gubernatorial campaign of more than two years, that much time is needed for a candidate from rural Minnesota to succeed.

'There’s a special challenge for someone outside the metropolitan/suburban area to win. But I believe it can be pulled off,' he said.

Bakk will seek counsel from a diverse group of people in the coming months on a run for the governor’s office, including holding meetings in St. Paul. He said it will be important to find out if 'a guy from rural Minnesota can put together a coalition to win the DFL endorsement. That will be critical.' Without the endorsement, it would likely take too much money to win a primary, unless someone had personal wealth to interject into a campaign, such as former Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton did in 2000 to defeat Senate-endorsed candidate former Sen. Jerry Janezich of Chisholm and three other challengers." Source: Mesabi Daily News, October 22, 2007

I would not mind seeing some leadership from outstate MN. It’s about time we kick these citidiots to the curb. Our views haven’t been represented in years.

    Johnny,

Greater MN folks have been doing just fine… just look at the transportation funding formula and their wins on the gun and ag issues.

You have to remember there’s more to greater MN then the Range as well…

    He’ll be Bakk!

Leadership is not what you would see from “The Bully” Bakk!

I read that wrong. I thought it said “DFL-kook”… which would ensure he got the Democrat endorsement.
