MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “FRANKEN’S TEXAS TWO STEP”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 24, 2007

"Al Franken talks a lot about running a 'people-powered grassroots' campaign but it’s really the big money out-of-state donors powering his mean-spirited, slash and burn candidacy.  No matter how much he raises from his rich liberal friends in Houston and Dallas today, Franken's extreme and polarizing attack politics are wrong for Minnesota."- Ron Carey, Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman

Today Franken Will Attend Two More Lavish Out Of State Fundraisers In Houston & Dallas

"Comic-turned-U.S.-Senate-candidate-in-Minnesota Al Franken (we've got to shorten that title) plans a Texas visit Oct. 24.  He'll be hosted by Marc Stanley for lunch in Dallas and by Chris Bell for cocktails in Houston during the visit billed as ‘Two Hot Events for a Hot Candidate.'" (The Houston Chronicle’s Texas Politics Blog, Posted October 11, 2007)

Franken Claims "People-Powered Grass-Roots Movement"

"Thursday, he told a crowd of about 100 in Comstock Memorial Union that he's putting together a 'people-powered grass-roots movement' to unseat Republican Sen. Norm Coleman."  (Andrea Domaskin, “Franken Takes Senate Bid To MSUM,” The Forum, October 12, 2007)

Franken Flashback: "I'm Getting Tired Of The Same Caviar, Lobster Tail, Chateau Briand"

Franken Acknowledges Not Relating To Public. "Once comics make it big and get their own TV show, the jokes stop resonating with the mass public. Al Franken, a former Saturday Night Live writer and performer who now stars in his own sitcom, Lateline, admits as much. 'My complaints wouldn't get a lot of sympathy,' he says. 'You know, the driver wasn't there right away. The travel agency paying to fly me first class failed to book my (frequent-flier) miles. I frequent the New York-L.A. American Airlines thing and I'm getting tired of the same caviar, lobster tail, chateau briand when I travel outbound. I don't think my complaints will win a lot of friends.'" (Michael Diamond, "Something To Laugh About – Trips From Hell Are Manna From Heaven For Comedians," USA Today, September 22, 1998)

Franken On The Senior Senator From Texas: "I Could Whip Her (Behind)"

Franken On Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison: "I Could Whip Her (Behind)." "'I could take the president,' he said, despite a certainty that Bush would 'fight dirty.' At about 200 pounds, Franken figures he has about 35 on the commander in chief. 'You'd just get his legs, and then you'd beat his ears, and then uncle.’ Sen. John McCain of Arizona, whom Franken likes, would fall easily too. 'That's only because he can't lift his shoulders’ because of injuries sustained as a Vietnam POW. Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison? 'I could whip her (behind).' Continuing on this feminist tack, Franken counts Maine senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe as sure victims." (Vic Vogler, "Pin Down This Image: Franken V Bush," Denver Post, October 10, 2004)

He was clearly joking with all of the other things you are pointing out.

But the fact that he is flying to Texas and doing two fundraisers is the absolute opposite of a grassroots campaign. It is also the complete opposite of something Wellstone would do.

God I loathe Franken. Such an un-ethical campaign.

I thought Democrats hated Texas (because the President is from there).

Andrew, you are wrong about Wellstone though. At least after he got in office. Wellstone “I’m for the little feller, not the Rockefeller.” But then he went to a Rockefeller mansion in California for fundraisers.

Wellstone was THE biggest hypocrit to ever represent MN!!

Name something he stood for and I will point out an example of his hypocrissy!!

Wellstone certainly did backtrack on his $100 or smaller contributions for his 2nd campaign. And him fundraising out of the state makes me kind of dissapointed…

BK, he always passionate about the rights of the poor.

Andrew, you and I are 100% opposites politically, but I think we agree on how once you get in office, it really corrupts you. whether it’s fundraising, pork spending, or where your residence is (Oberstar hasn’t lived in Minnesota in decades), once you get to DC, you are not the same.

Andrew yet Wellstone took millions of dollars from taxpayers, voted for raises for him self and took all availible tax deductions he could. The man was a major leage hypocrit!! He was able to fool a lot of mindless sheeple to follow him like a religous figure, but that is his greatest accomplishment.

    The Wellstone family disgusts me!

  7. MORE BIG HYPOCRISY: FRANKEN CLAIMS “HE’LL STAND UP TO SPECIAL INTEREST”, YET HAS TEXAS FUNDRAISER HOSTED BY LOBBYIST FOR “BIG PHARMA” | Minnesota Democrats Exposed Says:
    November 8th, 2007 at 3:30 PM

[...] Two weeks ago, Al Franken traveled to Texas to attend another out-of-state fundraiser.   Texas was the location for this fundraising event and I posted the press release from the Republican Party of Minnesota titled "Franken's Texas Two Step."   [...]
