DON’T FORGET ABOUT AL FRANKEN’S MEAN-SPIRITED COMMENTS ABOUT NATIVE AMERICANS #2

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 31, 2007

Al Franken jokes about alcoholism among Native Americans:

"God has a thousand faces and you only need to have one of them smiling upon you.  In fact, the Hopi Indians say that being smiled upon by more than one of God’s faces is very confusing and can lead to alcoholism." Source: Al Franken, Oh, The Things I Know! 2003, p. 47

Red Lake Tribal Chairman Floyd Jourdain was quoted by the Star Tribune about the comments made on KQRS that "I fail to see how any community can stand for such behavior under the guise of humor."

I agree and Al Franken needs to be held accountable for "such behavior under the guise of humor."

      C’mon, MDE.

      Franken’s comment was satire.

And KQRS’ Terri Train is serious commentary?

    3. Chestnut Says:

I wasn’t listening to KQRS that morning. I read the quotes from the Strib though… I could here her saying them in my head, actually… in that airhead demeanor she affects… it was totally meant as a stupid comment… and indeed, it was…

Your shooting yourself in the foot MDE. Your main Republican demo is the KQ audience, who have time and time again shown through their continued loyalty that they are fine with the morning show’s racist and bigoted comments.

Devon, It seems like the left has a double standard. If it is one of their own, its humor. A conservative? Racist and bigoted. I don’t think anyone out there is to stupid to see that, do you?

    6. Ted Says:
      October 31st, 2007 at 3:33 pm

Even, if you buy into MDE’s agrument, KQ got off with another lame slap on the wrist. Apologize, hire some Native American interns and invite some tribal leaders on the morning show to be beat up.

They obviously have not learned their lessons from past incidents in which they insulted other minority groups (Somali and Hmong). But people must like it since they continually get high ratings, especially (as Devon mentioned) in the Republican’s key demo group.

Tell you what we’ll send Barnard, Franken and hell even Coleman up to the Red Lake Reservation and see who gets the most laughs.

Ted, Apparently you haven’t heard of the first admendment. Or you have but figure its just for liberal nut cases. Insulting people is not a crime. It may not be in good taste but it is not a crime. People like you just need to get on with life and start doing something constructive.

Glad you brought that up, Michael. You link to the biggest racist in town, right there on your “Daily Reads Minnesota” list. Let’s not forget this sensitive post from your fellow MOB brother:

      http://anti-strib.blogspot.com/2007/10/dirt-worshipping-heathens.html#links

Have you held your pal accountable for that trash? As long as you link to him and remain silent, Michael, you are just as big a racist.

      November 1st, 2007 at 3:54 am

Karl, just because something is a daily read doesn’t mean that Mike agrees with the author of that site. Haven’t you ever heard of the phrase “Know thy enemy” before?

I agree, the person that wrote that racist diatribe on the Anti-Strib is definately racist though.

    10. Stonewall Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 9:22 am

The Red Lake Tribe’s Floyd JourDFLain will never go after Franken for his racist jokes. The tribes are DFL affiliate organizations.

    11. Ted Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 9:29 am

Elton, when did I say what KQ did was illegal?

It’s not, but it’s irresponsible and clearly shows KQ is not sincere in their response.

As for getting a life, when major media outlet like KQ promotes racism and bigotry on a semi-regular basis I find that appalling and it’s unfortunate you do not.

    12. Karl Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 12:59 pm

Honeydog sez: “Karl, just because something is a daily read doesn’t mean that Mike agrees with the author of that site. Haven’t you ever heard of the phrase “Know thy enemy” before?”

Oh, please, you expect me to believe Brodkorb’s “Daily Read” lists are his enemies? That he disagrees with them? This isn’t the “Liberal Blogs” list, these are his pals, his mates in the MoB Clubhouse. In fact, racist Tracy Eberly is running for “Mayor” of their little club. Even the blog Party of Pawlenty (which Brodkorb authors) links to Eberly’s racist trash–right below a picture of the governor. That’s some nice advertising for Timmy.

Honeydog continues: “I agree, the person that wrote that racist diatribe on the Anti-Strib is definately racist though.”

That would be consultant Tracy Eberly, and we agree on that, Honeydog.

    13. Elton Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 1:32 pm

Ted, Where did I say get a life? Where did I say what KQ did wasn’t offensive? But what I did say is they should have a right to say it without having the self appointed political correctness police coming after them. You, the Native Americans (or Indians for you Al F. supporters) and anyone else can change stations if you don’t like it. Jeez man, get a life! (OK, now I said it…)

    14. Ted Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 4:20 pm

“Ted, Where did I say get a life?”

Well there was this “People like you just need to get on with life and start doing something constructive.”

My point is that we should not let blantant racism or bigotry, especially on major media outlets who do it repeatedly to go by without comment.

Sure people have the freedom to say whatever they want, but if the community remains silent when they do that it can infer that most people agree with it or at least don’t find it offensive.

KQ specifically mentioned Red Lake tribal members in their show and hence they showed up to respond that they were outraged with those comments. I would hardly call that the self appointed political correctness police.

    15. Honeydog Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 5:24 pm

Karl, no, I didn’t say that at all. But remember, just because something is something one should read, doesn’t mean you agree with it.

What makes you say that Tracy is the head of that website. I notice they have quite a few authors over there. Just because you want to believe the worst to make your point, that doesn’t make it so.

    16. Honeydog Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 5:25 pm

Broom, it’s spelled RACISM, there isn’t a U in that word. Also, if racism is sexy, then why do you think Terri Train is sexy. A racist is about as far from sexy as one can get.

    17. Karl Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 6:49 pm

Honeydog: “What makes you say that Tracy is the head of that website. I notice they have quite a few authors over there. Just because you want to believe the worst to make your point, that doesn’t make it so.”

I never said he was head of Anti-Strib, although that’s how he’s usually identified. I did say he’s the racist author of that ugly piece called “Dirt-Worshipping Heathens,” and other pieces of racist trash. And as long as the MoB boys remain silent about their racist member–especially while yapping about Al Franken–they’ll be tarred with the same brush.

    18. Honeydog Says:
      November 1st, 2007 at 7:13 pm

      Karl, you said this:

“In fact, racist Tracy Eberly is running for “Mayor” of their little club.”

That definately implies that he’s the head of the website.

Is Tracy a racist? Yep. But guess what, this website is about exposing DEMOCRATS. So all your tirade is doing it trying to deflect from the real issue of the topic which is Franken’s racism.

    19. Karl Says:
      November 2nd, 2007 at 1:36 pm

So you’re saying Chief Racist Tracy Eberly isn’t running for “mayor” of the little MOB club? Check the candidate list on the right side of the page here:

      http://koolaidreport.blogspot.com/

So I guess that “definately implies that he’s the head of the website.”

      Any more questions, Honeydog?

Glad to see we at least still agree that Tracy Eberly is a racist. But why are his MOB buddies silent about this white supremacist in their midst anyway?

    20. Honeydog Says:
      November 2nd, 2007 at 8:21 pm

No Karl, I never said he was or wasn’t running for mayor of the MOB club. You are the only one who mentioned that. Now you are just trying to weasel out of what you said.

And I’ll say this again. THIS blog is about exposing DEMOCRATS. All you are doing is trying to deflect the issue away from YOUR candidate, and you’re failing at it.

    21. Ron Paul for president Says:
      November 3rd, 2007 at 1:56 pm

KQ needed not be sincere.. Teri Traen was merely raisng an issue a legitimate issue.. and calling someone Bellycourt..or a building Mistake on the Lake is hardly worthy of apologies

    22. MINNESOTA'S NEXT SENATOR Says:
      November 6th, 2007 at 11:06 am

      Honeydog-

I’ve got my spelling down to about 98%

Is the only quality you have? Spelling Bee champ?

And Teri T from KQ is hot regardless of her views.

I may not agree with all of her views, but it doesn’t change the fact she’s hot.

    23. MINNESOTA'S NEXT U.S. SENATOR Says:
      November 6th, 2007 at 11:08 am

      Regardless-

We are all human beings PERIOD.

    24. Honeydog Says:
      November 11th, 2007 at 6:19 am

Now have you cut down on your lying by 98% Broom?

And I have a lot of qualities, good ones too. You, however, have not one redeeming quality.
