BREAKING NEWS: “REPUBLICAN PARTY OF MINNESOTA FILES DATA PRACTICES REQUEST SEEKING INFORMATION ON MARK RITCHIE”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | October 31, 2007

Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today filed a data practices request seeking information concerning news reports that Mark Ritchie has abused his office as Secretary of State.

"Mark Ritchie promised Minnesota he would be a non-partisan Secretary of State but recent press reports indicate that Ritchie has abused his office for political purposes. It is an affront to all Minnesotans that Ritchie would exploit his official position to gather campaign information. Such unethical activity is a betrayal of Minnesotans and stains the Office’s historic non-partisan role in elections,” Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey said.

"Given these deeply troubling press accounts, today I filed a data practices act request with the Secretary of State's Office seeking 'all records of data practices requests made by representatives of the DFL Party or representatives of the Mark Ritchie campaign since January 1, 2007,'" Carey said.

This request includes copies of letters or emails requesting public data and any and all responses provided by the Office of the Secretary of State.

Richie Ritchie must be in the Bunker by now. Its only a matter of time until the DFL Attack Machine (paging Non-Monkey Coleman and DFL Dougie Grow) come onto the scene and try to cover this up.

I can almost hear the shredders from here.

I’d just like to remind Ritchie of the consequences of noncompliance or purposefully incomplete compliance to these requests.

Don’t hide anything Mr. Secretary. It would almost certainly be worse than whatever bad stuff they find through a search for the truth.

    Maybe.

He needs a friend like the Clintons had who can hide documents in his socks. :)

Be fun to see those surface and show how Clinton screwed the country.

It’s pretty obvious that Ritchie’s office made no such request for the email addresses.

This whole thing reeks of impropriety.

Give it another day or two and the AP, MPR, etc will pick up on this story. Ironic, that the Strib is the only one that has run a story on this so far.

I hear DFLers are begging him to just answer these questions so they can move on.

An official request shouldn’t have to be filed if this guy is truly a Secretary of State who just wants to administer elections fairly.

DiDftL got it totally right when (s)he wrote that Ritchie either did something illegal or in the alternative did something incredibly unethical.

Ritchie’s silence is deafening, and should tell us all we need to know about how shady he is.
