REPRESENTATIVE BROD AND EMMER SEND LETTER TO SECRETARY OF STATE RITCHIE REQUESTING INFORMATION REGARDING ALLEGATIONS THAT HE USED HIS OFFICIAL OFFICE FOR CAMPAIGN PURPOSES

By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 1, 2007

Click here to read the letter sent by Representative Brod and Emmer to Secretary of State Ritchie requesting information regarding allegations that Ritchie may have used his official office to fund his political machine.

From the letter

"We think you will agree that the allegations set forth in the Complaint place the integrity and public trust in your office in jeopardy. In fact, if the allegations are true, your office may have intentionally or unwittingly committed serious violations of our campaign finance laws." Source: Representative Brod and Emmer letter to Secretary of State Ritchie, October 31, 2007

Representative Brod and Emmer ended their letter to Secretary of State Ritchie with the hope that he honor his campaign promises and "run the office of the Secretary of State in a fair, open and honest manner."

Somebody needs to teach Laura and Tom some basic grammar. Did they even proofread the letter before it went out? The grammar is so bad that I couldn’t even get past the first sentence of the letter.

Jennifer is overreacting, but she’s correct that there are some grammatical errors. Specifically:

    - a stray “that” in the first sentence of the letter; and
    - a missing “were” in bullet 10.

Not that either of them change anything with regard to this egregious scandal involving the theft of state property by SoS Mark Ritchie and used for his own benefit.

    Here’s my question: where’s Ritchie?

You know you’re on to something when the only retort is about a dangling modifier and a misplaced adverb.

Ritchie is unrepairably sullied by this lapse in judgement. The reputation of the office of Secretary Of State is diminished significantly by this blatant breach of the public trust.

  9. Jennifer Says:
    November 1st, 2007 at 4:38 PM

My comment was not meant to be any sort of a retort to the issue or a defense to what happened. It was only offered to reflect on the sad state of these affairs where everyone reacts instantly and demands answers, etc. instantly. Breathe a little…relax..and read your stuff before it is sent out so you don’t look like you have the education of a fifth grader.

I am sure that people in the SoS office are investigating and some sort of response or explanation will be forthcoming. Ritchie gave his initial response that he was not aware that this was happening. They’ll investigate and get to the bottom of this. But geez…it might take another day, or a week..or…gasp…even a little bit longer.

Brod and Emmer, Brod and Emmer, may they always be mentioned in the same breath, sort of like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

  11. purpleblogdog Says:
    November 1st, 2007 at 5:03 PM

When ever a liberal tells you to take a breath and “reflect” to avoid making a punctuation errors, you know they are grasping.

I would like a response from Ritchie even if it may have an uncrossed t, or gasp…a dotted i.

Any self respecting fifth grader who gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar can at least come up with some explaination.

I at least expected something creative like:

    1. Cookie? What…chomp chomp chomp…cookie?

    2. My dog ate the request form.

    3. All the other Secretary of State guys were doing it.

Everything Mark Ritchie wrote and said during the campaign focused on being a NONPARTISAN SOS. This activity is not nonpartisan. It is an unethical way to build lists and raise money from unsuspecting citizens who showed up to learn about civic engagement. Call it what it is: partisan politics prepared and paid for by Mark Ritchie.

Mark Ritchie’s office sent an email? OMG!

Pay no attention to the former SOS’s disenfranchisement of thousands, the governor’s stalling on transportation, bridges falling down, the chronic underfunding of schools, the rape of the middle class through tax shifting, while the ultra-rich get ultra-richer…

Pay no attention to the governor’s blatant pandering to anti-Iran interests, the GOP reps unwavering support for torture, the illegal invasion and stunningly botched occupation of a sovereign nation, not to mention saber-rattling, fear-mongering, information padding and truth stretching.

Focus on the Democrat! He sent an email! Bad bad bad!

    “Michael B. Brodkorb Says:

    Here’s my question: where’s Ritchie?”

Michael do you really expect Ritchie to reply to you?

You’re a communications profession. Would you tell a Republican elected official/candidate to respond to a email from a Democratic blogger that is working for ways to attack them?

When he was asked by a reporter, he gave an answer. You may not like his answer, but he did answer when a legit journalist asked him.

  16. Ghost of Matt Entenza Says:
    November 1st, 2007 at 9:42 PM

So, it seems like Ritchie has asked some of his lefty friends to come to his defense….funny. Of course, I’m sure Ritchie “is not aware” of this.

Bottom line is that what happened was very unethical and shady. As the Sec. of State, Ritchie needs to be held accountable. The fact that he has only offered a lame “explanation” makes this worse.

The Dems can obfuscate all they want — the facts don’t change. Ritchie got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

  17. Michael B. Brodkorb Says:
    November 1st, 2007 at 10:18 PM

I’d only ask Secretary of State Ritchie one question: How did your campaign get Mr. Giga and Mr. Tomczak’s email addresses?

“My ‘Commitment to Minnesota Voters’ is a first step in this process. As Secretary of State, I will give regular updates on these commitments and on our progress towards restoring trust, integrity and nonpartisanship to the Office. I will be accountable to the voters for these commitments.”

Anybody have a copy of Mr. Ritchie’s latest update on his ‘Commitment to Minnesota Voters’ and how he is doing in his quest to restoring “trust, integrity and nonpartisanship to the Office”?

  20. Right is RIGHT Says:

I can’t really believe that some leftys come on here to defend Ritchie and don’t even address the things he has been accused of doing…oh yeah, they are lefty loons. The guy could do anything and the purple Kool Aid eye would go blind.

Why don’t they tell our elected official to explain what is going on? I know the loons don’t care, but I’m sure most people would. Ritchie is an idiot, even the Kool Aid drinkers know that, but even the Kool Aid drinkers know that this isn’t being handled well. If he is clean, you’d think it’d be cleared up by now.

  21. Chestnut Says:
    November 2nd, 2007 at 7:28 AM

    Scooter, you’re a moron.

“Mark Ritchie’s office sent an email? OMG!”

No, Mark Ritchie stole a state-owned list and used it to solicit cash.

“Pay no attention to the former SOS’s disenfranchisement of thousands… ” and the rest of that blah, blah blah…

Bullshit. Dumb, unsubstantiated, bullshit. All of it. Goodness, get a clue.

  22. Left is RIGHT Says:
    November 2nd, 2007 at 8:18 AM

Do you really want the attack to be about breaking the promise to be nonpartisan? What exactly does that mean? Seems pretty nonpartisan to me if he is asking people for money regardless of their political affiliation. It’s kind of like doing a radio commercial or mailing campaign materials to everyone in your district.

The real complaint is whether it was proper to collect the email addresses and then use them in the manner he did. It is not a partisan vs. nonpartisan issue.

Before throwing the big words around, let’s at least make sure we’re making the proper accusations.

  23. Chestnut Says:

“Seems pretty nonpartisan to me if he is asking people for money regardless of their political affiliation.”

Good, then the dumb, worthless bastard should build his own goddam list instead of steeling it from the state and misusing his office.

“It’s kind of like doing a radio commercial or mailing campaign materials to everyone in your district.”

No, it’s kind of like theft and abuse. He stole th list from the state, for his personal gain… with the bullshit lies he told during his first campaign as a backdrop.

Like all liberals, Ritchie is a bloodsucking leach and liar, interested only in gaining power for himself.
